Logic Pro 2.1 for iPad, 11.1 for Mac has dropped

Quantec Room Simulator is the headline feature. Sounds like the iPad version adds user sample folders to the media browser, release notes don't seem to be out yet.

Nice. Still waiting for it here in the US app store.

  • I see it's having me re-download the session player packs, so there must be updates there. There's also a new "Modular Melodies" synth pack.

  • Is iOS 18 a requirement?

    Oh, boy.

(This is from the macOS App Store description)

  • And... oh, man. That Quantec Room Simulator sounds AMAZING.

The app store description says it requires iPadOS 18.1

Thank you. That's why the update isn't showing up for me. Guess it's time to finally update.

  • The "Sample Folders" feature and the ability to reorder mixer channels are nice adds.

    Looking forward to these.

For those curious, yes, if you reorder mixer channels, the tracks in arrangement or live loops view reorder as well

    Release notes for iPad: https://support.apple.com/en-us/101628

As in the past, there's a HUGE list of updates there

ETA: including the ability to use different devices for sound input and output! I wonder if that drove the requirement of iPadOS 18.1. Lots of good stuff in the release notes.

  • Still no midi mapping or transport control?

  • Here's a rundown of the major new features in Logic Pro for iPad

  • Some good quality of life updates here. Looking forward to trying the sample browser.

  • Mac release notes have dropped: https://support.apple.com/en-us/109503

Another huge list of enhancements and fixes

Not that I can see. And no UI improvements for Alchemy or other stock plugins on iPad that I can see.

... Looks like someone beat me to posting the macOS manual.

    Removed.

  • To me the most interesting new feature is the sample browser. I’m wondering if this could make it easier to import loops from Loopy Pro. Is there somewhere I can point the file browser to access Loopy’s loops?

  • Were we able to create folders in the project section before? In any case, I feel better organized.

  • Still have to use the Files app to import MIDI files, eh?

  • The top of the range Quantec Yardstick cost over £7000 in 2011.

    Now it’s in an iPad!

Where be that manual good sir?

EDIT: All good, found it at the bottom of the Release Notes link.

    All in good time. :)

Fingers crossed. This update is lovely. Just daydreaming about never needing to use Files drag & drop again 😁

  • Just downloaded the update and added my sample-folder to the built-in browser...
...who knows maybe it even shows and supports other file-types than samples as well?!

Will it also do the opposite and allow drag'n'drop export to a user location?
And can we save/export samples from QuickSampler without using the WaveBox workaround?

I'm quite sure there's a lot of small refinements under-the hood, or at least I hope so :D
Guess I'll know later on when I really dig in...

  • I would love to see midi controlled transport and fader support for the iPad version.

Anyone having any joy with the new audio input/output options?

I still only seem to have the option to select from my interface, even when I have USB-C earpods connected, which I’d imagine should give me the option to playback via them or set their mic to the input (or even use the ipad mics/speakers as I/O when I’m using the interface at the same time).

In my mind this might be the most glaring feature gap left between Mac and iPad. I know there are many many other gaps, some big, but this feels like the most impactful one from just a pure usability standpoint. It also feels like it'd be too big of a feature to add for a point release. I guess the best hope is we'll see it in LP4i 3.0.

At this point, I think Logic has a pretty solid claim to being the most advanced DAW on iPad. But the MIDI implementation trails just about every other DAW in the market. Weird oversight.
