@cyberheater - to record notes, something has to be loaded onto a pad. Either a sample, or "Midi" (you have to have the Samurai pack for that).

To record pad hits from a keyboard, after routing the keyboard to Koala, go to the sequence page and be sure the keyboard mode isn't selected. To record chromatic notes, tap the piano icon and select the pad to play.

To edit a sequence in the piano roll, double-tap it.

If you don't use midi mapping from Koala's settings, you have to figure out which notes go to which pads ... and this changes for landscape (2x16) vs. portrait (4x4) window layouts. Best to use mapping to avoid breaking your brain when suddenly things don't work and you forgot this little design flub.

Hope someone makes a video explaining how to use this midi out feature in AUM. I’ve watched the video explaining how it works when connected to the dude’s CS keyboard, but how it works in AUM is not immediately clear (to me, a dumb idiot)

I can’t figure out how to record notes from the AUM midi keyboard into Koala.

    Here @Kashi

My first ever video upload on YouTube. Should have known it would have involved Koala.

Hope this helps. The keyboards are better in Koala than the AUM but here’s a couple pics @cyberheater

Oh I wasn’t even thinking this deep when I answered the question above. You’re 100% right. I haven’t messed with MIDI in Koala until this update, never had a reason 😅

In the Koala video update Marek demos the keys playing his synth and that to me was the highlight of the update (I also am dense so) but I guess I could see some people wanting an easy way to not mess with the screen.

Thanks wim and offbrands. Now sorted.

  • Cheers @offbrands and @wim . Appreciate the help 🙏🏼

  • Seems that you have to use an instance of Koala per midi track. So 8 midi instruments on 8 separate midi channels really requires 8 instances of Koala.

I don't quite understand what you're saying there?

  • @cyberheater - for each pad you can set the midi out channel if you tap edit on the Sample page.

Let me try to explain. I’ve got a cold and a fair amount of brain fog going so I’m feeling thick AF.

I’ve set up multiple pads in Koala. Each is a midi pad transmitting on its own midi channel.
I’ve set up multiple midi instruments in AUM that is mid filtered to respond to the correct midi channel.
When I hit the pads in Koala all is working as it should. Each pad triggers the correct synth.

It’s when it comes to recording that things fall apart. I use the built in keyboard and record a loop that triggers synth 1. I then select the second pad and attempt to record on the same sequence and part which should be triggering the second synth but no joy.

Sorry you'e not feeling well. 😐

Did you set the midi out channel on each pad? This is set from the sample tab by tapping the pad, then edit, and selecting the channel from the dropdown. When I do that I'm able to see that midi goes out on the right channel per pad and I can send multiple channels at once from the sequencer.

It seems you can only set the midi channel for pads that have "MIDI Out" loaded on them - it doesn't work for pads that have a sample on them as far as I can tell.

  • Thanks wim. Shut down AUM and restarted the session and it’s magically working.

The age old answer to most software issues within Apple, quit/restart/reload 🙃

Hope you get some rest and start feeling better soon @cyberheater 🙏🏽🤘🏽
