Sonic Touch with Gaz and Nick on Sonicstate was my favorite back n the day.

Oh my god same here! Gaz's enthusiasm was infectious. Their video is the reason I jumped on Gadget.

This video is what made me buy Gadget 10 years ago and spend (most likely) four figured on completing everything Korg iOS, which is Gadget's IAPs, external apps compatible with Gadget and their IAPs, including Module Pro and all its IAPs. Thanks Gaz and Nick for that. 🤣

Korg made the IAPs quite appealing with the photos, we could’nt resist!

  • Everytime I see a new message I keep thinking he is gonna show up to say hello.

  • Sigh. It’s all so ephemeral here in interspace. Heathcliff!

  • Don’t forget about the affable Davepoo: The Music Stronzo.

Last video is one year ago. I sometimes wish creating YT was far less time consuming, this way people would continue to create as a passion, regardless of zero to little momentary returns. Otherwise it eventually becomes burnout work. I don’t blame them for bowing out. I’m guessing it begins with an idea about an app, HW, or workflow that the creator is really excited about sharing, and if money follows cool. But after creating a certain quantity of videos, future videos will be about things you are not that passionate about. You just need to make something. And the final nail in the coffin, the hecklers with unconstructive criticism.

That's right! I wonder where @Daveypoo is these days. But as you said, Youtube is not for the faint of heart and can be soul crushing at times. I've seen many creators go through burnout, with Jazza being one of the most famous ones to be open about his many burnouts back before he had an entire team working with him.

@MeatWalrus Tim is OK, except now she is Emily Webb and very happy😊
I’m not if she will ever return to iOS music journalism though.
@jwmmakerofmusic Dave is OK and living happily in Italy now😊

I had no idea! Well I'm glad she's fine, even if she won't return to iOS music journalism. :)

@jwmmakerofmusic Dave is OK and living happily in Italy now😊

I'm also glad to hear it. :) Dave also living his best life. Italy is such a beautiful country.

There's a blast from the past. Hope he's okay too. I can understand not wanting to deal with iOS as a production platform, but hoping all of these folks mentioned are okay. Thankfully @thesoundtestroom filled us in on two of these folks. :)

@jwmmakerofmusic @Blipsford_Baubie I'm still here! Thanks for the shout out - I appreciate it. I am doing well - been making lots of music. I haven't bought any apps recently since I have everything I need - I feel like 90% of what comes out is some variation of something I already have. Trying to finish up another soul jazz/fusion album but I'm stuck on the last few tracks. Still 100% iOS but still using my 2017 iPad Pro so it's getting a little long in the tooth.

Haven't felt very relevant lately since I'm not app hunting, and I got bogged down with all the production work of being a content creator. I feel like it took me away from doing what I really love which is making music. I've also been playing more bass lately to get my chops back together, so I just use the iPad mainly for recording now.

Living in Italy is generally great - still have all of life's stresses, and still struggling every day to get better at the language but I love being here. Kids are getting bigger and requiring more time, job's been stressful, so just trying to squeeze in music production where I can.

And that's it, really. Miss you all and the community - I'm still here, just spend more time lurking. I'll let you knew when I finally finish this f###ing album.

  • @Daveypoo Ah so great to hear from ya mate. :) Me I rarely ever finish an album and it always gets released as an EP. 😂

My app hunting days were almost over, but I'm on the hunt for the "perfect for me" DAW. Currently NS2 still holds its place as my DAW of choice, but I've yet to dive into Audio Evolution, Auria, and N-Track. (I already have had the first two for years, and will purchase N-Track in the next couple of days if the other two don't work out.) Regarding plugins, I on rare occasion buy a couple here and there, but I haven't purchased as much this year as I did last year to be fair. 😅

I'm very glad to hear life is going well for you despite life being life (with all its ups and downs). I'm also glad you're picking up bass again. :)

Nice to hear from you, @Daveypoo

    Stay creative 🤙

  • @Daveypoo ! Reading your response gives me great joy! My parents were Italian immigrants from Trieste, so my wife and i ruminate sometimes about dual citizenship, but we leave it at that. So i admire you for for having the balls to do it!

Please leave a link for your music. I miss your organ playing!

Well, if you ever want to talk more about the process, I'm happy to answer whatever questions you have. I definitely think it's worth doing, even if you're not looking to move.

You can find my music at Daveypoo.Bandcamp.com 😉. The most recent album is here - https://daveypoo.bandcamp.com/album/i-segreti-del-bar-mezzanotte

100 downloads in 24 hours. That's the US App Store mind you.

That little? Wow. I wonder what that generally translates to in worldwide sales.

Typically, our US sales numbers are more than the other countries combined. In some countries it only takes a few sales in 24 hours to be in the top 10. But, it's prob different for each developer. There's a lot of taxes and tariffs on apps in other countries that also effect the take-home. Apple passes those taxes on to the developer. i.e. we make as little as 12 cents on the dollar on heavily taxed countries.

More importantly, I also miss Vortex. A stand up fellow, who supported mobile music making! 🫡

  • Hey everyone! Hope all is well and thanks so much for the kind words! Apologies for being away but it cannot be helped. I sure hope to return in 2028 :) Miss you all so much!

He still writes for Sound On Sound - https://www.soundonsound.com/author/john-walden

IIRC, he moved to France to enjoy the country life.

Are we caught up on everyone now? Glad to know they're all doing well...or at least live and kicking.
