Elastic OSC by Oliver Greschke (Released)
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/elastic-osc/id6478936836
Elastic OSC is a synthesizer app based on the DSP code of the Mutable Instruments Plaits hardware oscillator module, one of the most beloved (and cloned) oscillator modules in the Eurorack modular scene! Like the original, Elastic OSC comes with a wide variety of possible sounds, from analog-style, FM, and additive sounds to physical modeling, percussive, and even drum sounds.
Elastic OSC can be used in both monophonic and 8-voice polyphonic modes. You can play the app using the (on-screen) keyboard or an external keyboard or sequencer inside your DAW of choice.
The app focuses on ease of use, featuring two XY pads for intuitive sound manipulation of the OSC engine and the effects. Despite the simplicity of the cleaned-up interface, the sound possibilities are vast - thanks to 24 different oscillator models and the ability to automate parameter changes, as it is possible in all Elastic apps released so far.
A versatile Arpeggiator makes it easy to start with simple ideas or can already create entire sonic worlds.
Elastic OSC includes an integrated help system (tap"?") to provide explanations for nearly every GUl element, the underlying DSP model, and most of the app's functionality.

Man looks cool!
From that description it looks to be a powerhouse synth. I'm wondering how it will compare to Synthmaster 2 and 3.
Totally different is my guess since this is based on the Mutable Instruments Plaits module.
Currently we have a few apps on iOS that use the same DSP Core (Brainz IAP for TeraPro, MiRack, Spectrum Bundle and 4P's take on it).
Personally I can't get enough of Mutable Instruments so this one will definitely be on my radar
Also Strokes has this engine.
Plaits has some really great sounds, it's one of my go to engine, for instance in miRack.
Different is good too. Well regardless, I'll probably shell out for both whenever they're released.
Coolio
Ooh la la 😍
I’d love to see controls for the LPG to stay on the main page & be automated. For me, a big part of the appeal of plaits is the algorithms the ease of use for sure, but the LPG is essential to the sound.
Wait - I see that it’s there, just renamed “mod decay” and “color”, I guess I’m also wanting the mod decay to also affect the release/decay of the audio passing through the LPG.
The 'dreamer' in me wishes that this 'Elastic OSC' would also include all the Mutable Instrument effects which would take it over-the-top!
I'd like to see more synthesizers which enable sound/patch creation based on a completely intuitive UI. Dragging around points on a grid (2D or 3D) makes complete sense if there is immediate feedback and the results are musically usable.
I knew about Spectrum but not the rest of them! Which of the 4Pockets apps is based on MI Plaits?
I think he meant RingsFX which is based on Rings. I’m not aware of a Plaits-based 4Pockets app, although Paul is probably working on one.
It’s out!!

I like the X-Y pad interface. Very nice. I could set up the same thing at no cost using the Rozeta X-Y pads I already own with the free Spectrum app, but this is more convenient.
Is it possible to record the X-Y movements? That seems like an obviously desirable feature, but I do not see a record button in the UI.
I broke my streak and purchased this, after spotting Gavinski’s video. Fun times ahead!
Now that’s more like it. An intuitive control surface. Bought it and I like it.
It would be cool if someone makes a virtual synth based on Shruthi or Ambika firmware.
Looks and sounds great! Was about to purchase thinking it would be Mac Silicon compatible like Elastic Drums but alas not? Trying not to buy anything that I can't easily transport over to desktop. I wonder if this will get compatibility?
His web site says he's working on it. I'm just going to assume it'll be a separate purchase until proven otherwise.
Thanks @NeuM. And that’s a good policy. I’ll do the same.
Actually just had a look at the site and it definitely sounds like there be seperate desktop versions. Totally support that although will probably hold off on this for now.
Funny, I was just thinking about getting Lagrange (by iceWorks), and then Elastic OSC suddenly pops up. Which one do you guys prefer? I know that Plaits is legendary, so I feel like most people would choose Elastic based on sound/character alone. But what about ease of use & sound design possibilities?
How many patches total? Ballpark?
Is there Patch randomization?
Quick heads up… it is on an introductory sale at $9.99 until May 11th. Not certain on full pricing.
Edit - NEVERMIND JUST SAW IT. In @Gavinski video.
I don’t have this yet, but Lagrange is one I use more then most.
Might as well…

There are already a couple AUv3 synths that run Plaits. There's the free app bundle Spectrum by Burns, and there's the BrainZ expansion for Tera Pro.
Does this new one do anything that would be missing from either of those apps?
Not all the patches in the beta videos are in the app, I messaged the developer and they said it would be updated. A bug maybe? Right now there are about 35 presets.
Randomization is good.
So far I am really liking this synth. Very easy and quick to use and it makes sounds that I don't necessarily get from my other instruments.
Spectrum has 14 models, BrainZ 16, Elastic OSC has 24. Spectrum and Elastic are 8 voice polyphonic, Tera Pro max 128. I’d say that Elastic OSC is the most immediate of the three and very playable.
It has some unique features. You can record automation on everything (osc, adsr, fx) which is controlled by mod wheel. The A/B mode is cool. Patch randomization. Switching oscillators doesn't reset anything else so you can try different sounds. Great UI too.
