Song Of The Month Club - December 2024
What is the Song of the Month Club?
It's a place where musicians come to give and receive feedback on their work. Anyone is welcome, whatever their level of ability.
The spirit of the club is to contribute: if you submit a song for others to comment on, you should also have the courtesy to listen to everyone else's contributions and give as much feedback as possible. Posting a track and not listening and commenting on others is not cool.
The purpose of feedback is to be honest. Essentially you should give your truthful impressions of the song, whether good or bad. Negative feedback, if done in the right spirit and with courtesy, can be the most useful and can help the artist to grow.
All submissions are welcome, don't hesitate if you want to contribute. We like all kinds of music and we are particularly fond of vocals (but of course we still love a great instrumental). If you are thinking of experimenting with vocals this is a good place to get started.
We ask that you only post one song per month in this thread - if you're lucky enough to be able to produce more, then please just submit your strongest material
And finally, iOS is not a requirement for posting here. If you've recorded your song using nothing but a ukulele and a Fostex 4 track, that's fine.

My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler:
What am I to you?
Am I the man you thought you knew?
What do I believe in?
What d’you think I see?
Could you live in my skin?
Could you stand to be me?
Can you feel the things I feel?
Can you feel real empathy?
Can you imagine being me?
Seeing the things I see?
How can we begin
To fix this mess that we are in?
What do I believe in?
What is it I feel?
You couldn’t live in my skin
And face this ordeal
Can you feel the things I feel?
Can you feel real empathy?
Can you imagine being me?
Seeing the things I see?
Who are you to me?
Will you stay here faithfully?
Can you feel the things I feel?
Can you feel real empathy?
Can you imagine being me?
Seeing the things I see?
What do you believe in?
Do you believe in me?
Could you stand in my skin?
And see the things I see?
I’m posting one I’ve posted elsewhere in the forum, as it reminds me of our Staffie Tucker that we had to have put down last December just before Christmas.
Most of the track is recorded in AUM and consists of Harmonicc and Harmony Bloom running some Atoms and a RingsFX. I’ve then taken the audio stems, chopped them up and added some Mariana, Stringlab and Sensual Sax in Logic

What else can I say?
Intro and breaks are well considered and engage interest. Personally I think the vocals are too low in the mix, as they seem to be getting swamped by the rest of the track at the busiest moments. Have you cut the ending short, seems to be cutting an fx tail. Good instrument tones as usual for yourself.
All in all, an enjoyable track!
Another great song. I really like this one a lot. Nicely structured with a really good, catchy chorus. I particularly like the higher register you sing this in, I think it suits your voice really well. I think this is one of your strongest vocals. The atmospheric sounds are really cool and take the production up a notch as does the guitar tone which is really nice. The quiet/loud dynamic works really well too.
The only issue is that the song ends too abruptly, sounds like the tail is missing?
Nice chunk of ambient :-) The synth 'fx' that intersperse the track add interest and keep things moving... The sax melody is nice, and it's suitable drenched in big reverb.
This is a "Klownshed" track -- Burnt Earth lives on as a duo :-)
I should probably make a separate account for Klownshed on Soundcloud...
Anyway, this is intended as an interlude on the album, which is one track or so away from being finished I think...
Soft and moody.I like this one. The sax is a nice addition.
Sorry about your dog, it's always heartbreaking when they go. 😢
Lovely track, very atmospheric and some unusual sounds in there. Lots of space for the music to breathe, and the sax also adds a nice touch. One to let float over you.
Reminded me of some of the music of a band I like called Christian Death - on some albums they did similar haunting orchestral stylings. There was a steady change around mid to 3/4 point in sound and I couldn't quite work out if it was a change in the instrument sound or fx, but it really kept my listening interest. At first I was kind of disappointed that it ended so soon, but then thought maybe that is exactly why it worked so well, because it didn't outstay its welcome, or as I'm so oft to do: add more complexity.
I enjoyed this interlude, the outro especially stands out. If it was me I would have developed it. Those very subtle background samples make it enigmatic. I found the crash to be a little distracting in this context though, I’d have used some deeper cymbal rolls. But it’s just me.
This is a music track that I improvised on two MIDI keyboards connected to Bitwig Studio on a desktop PC. There the MIDI was routed to Solo for the violin and flute, Nucleus for the bassoon, and Omnisphere for the other instruments.
After bringing the audio recording into Vegas Pro, I applied the Lurssen Mastering Console plug-in to the audio mix.
It's titled Harbor Lights.
I know this one. brilliant. but the latest are even more brilliant.
This one is very spooky and cinematic, there is a lot of tension and it really feels like the aftermath of a tragic event that has unfolded. The ending is shiver-inducing.
Thanks for listening
