  • It’s saying it will work on my iPad 10th gen so I imagine an iPad Air 3 will be fine.

  • Is there anything in there that indicates it will record audio (preferably into the song)? For AU$60 I hope so.

    Holy. Shit.

Looks amazing. And it's cheap for what it can do - hope Jim hets enough revenune to support app for few years with updates. Amazing. Amazing.

I love that clean intuitive UI, at least from screenshots it looks great.

I think, after all that years, time to say goodbye to NS.. Rest In Peace, dear friend.

  • Pre-Ordered!!!

That’s a bold statement. We shall see. I don’t think I’ll bother to be honest as I won’t be upgrading my iPad 8 just for an app I’ll hardly ever use.

Thing is, that groovebox - oriented workflow fits now perfectly how i work with HW - i was dreaming about this groowebox/daw fusion on ipad for years... now it is here, so i am pretty excited..

Of course i see there is tons features in NS which will be, obviously, not here, but as i said, it 's more about workflow for me not that much about particular features set...

Funny how I'm pretty excited by this, but it won't help me make better music and in some ways will pretty much be a distraction from the practices that are improving my "workflow" lol

I’m actually going to leave this one it at the moment for that very reason. I’ve managed to get myself into a productive workflow that at last I am happy with. I prefer working with audio clips anyway.

This me as well. I totally get the pricing and think it’s fair if it’s as good as it looks but for me it was going to be $30aud plaything/present for now.

Looking forward to the hands on reviews though!

$29.99 in case anyone was wondering. Feb 1, 2025 expected release date.

I see 35€… not saying it isn’t worth it or more, but didn’t expect that much

  • Totally getting it, though

  • I usually don't pre-order anything, but wanted to support dev, so yeah, pre-ordered

  • Well it’s Jim Audio, we can’t go wrong

Pre-ordered!! Hoping my ipad pro 2nd gen can handle it well.

  • now i'm curious how it's going to run on 9th gen.
because it certainly looks like my next favorite music making app, and of course i'm intended to play gigs with it.

If you go fairly easy with the AUv3 plugins I'll bet you have no issues at all.

  • Have pre-ordered.

I hope I can sequence my external midi gear with this.

  • Oh… hoping for the pre release tutorial to take us through the wait..

    A Loopy Pro competitor?

The last version had 2 time signatures to play in. So, probably not.

  • My first reaction was: wow that is pricey! ( a reaction others had as well). Then I started to read what it can do and I changed my mind, it's actually NOT, pricey.

I have never gotten into the groove box thing and all gods (existing and non) know I've been trying. My latest attempt was that app by some magician in an ugly hat. Nah, didn't do it for me either (I suspect I'm too stupid for Gboxes).

Anyway, there were so many other nice features so I will definitely get it. Or, as our good man Edward_Alexander so well put it: "I mean I’ve spent thirty bucks on worse things. 🤙"

LOLOL €35 for a full-featured music suite designed for the platform you love is “expensive” and “pricey.”

Is iPad users are so spoiled. That’s not even a single VST for the desktop.

  • Stupid question: Im wondering if GR2 can be loaded as an AU3 instrument as per GR16?

I can see why it’s a £30 app, but I’ve just bought MainStage and that looks like it’s going to take my time for learning its secrets. While I will no doubt buy it, it will be for fun - there is only so many hours in the day and I seem to be spending more time learning to use my gear (apps and hardware) than getting my musical ideas into form at the moment.

I do see a market for these types of apps though, where a more simplified and fun approach to making music is desired, but adding some of the complexity of a full blown DAW. Will be interesting to see how well this app keeps the simplicity of a groove box while adding some of the complexities of a host / DAW into its equation.

Also I think GR16 kept some of the more quirky design elements of the groove box that it evolved from - wonder if some of that older design ideals will be ditched for some ideas from more modern groove boxes this time around?

However the dev has approached it, even by its component parts, I can’t see why this would not be a £30 app. I know I’ve just bought probably the best value for money piece of music software ever, but I would never compare what Apple can do against what a solo iPad dev can do. The problem with iPad app buying is it’s easy to spend and awful lot of money on cheap apps that one hardly uses after the initial buzz has gone - probably better to miss a few of the these cheap fx apps and spend on something like this that has a little more to it….even if it will still come down to just a bit of fun and never truly become part of out usual music making process.

I do however hate the term ‘workflow’ and thinking of music making as a process - that’s probably why apps like these are important to put some of the fun back into music making if only for a little while? Don’t get me wrong, I’m perfectly aware that if I spent less time chatting here……

  • Does it have built in support for Launchpads ? GR-16 has, but sadly only for the Launchpad Pro.

    This is what it says...

    PERFORM LIVE SETS
Use 16 x 16 clip launch grid and Ableton Link feature to synchronize GR-2 with your other music apps and gear. Connect your midi controllers to control GR-2 parameters via midi. Crossfade between your patterns in a DJ style with onscreen crossfader and EQ controls.

I’m hoping this is my desert island app. I could never get my head around Drambo so I hope this fairs better.

Fair point. Be interested to see what you think of it.

I read this, but generic MIDI controller support is different from genuine Launchpad support with LED feedback. I’ll wait with buying until the docs are out.

  • Price seems very reasonable for such a loaded workstation. And it is very eyecandy as well.

    No audio recording.
