I was the one who "didn't watch it".
Why?
Because it had the clickbait title "I regret my interview with Prince Harry".

So, I thought rather than give up 1 hour 46 minutes of my life I might give it a miss. I was pretty sure it wasn't a music video.
If you find a jar marked "POISON" in the supermarket food section you don't need to eat the contents "just to be 100% sure".
@Simon That doesn't sound like the type of video I'd waste time on either to be fair. Just not interesting to me personally, and my attention span would be bored to tears. However, if others wish to watch and discuss, that's their business. 😃
Now if you give me a 3-hour documentary about a musician I'm currently interested learning more about, I'll watch it throughout the day in pieces. I saw a longform interview with Joel (Deadmau5) back in May which was super fascinating. If memory serves proper, it was over 2 hours long. These days I'm digging through interviews with Jean-Michel Jarre, members of Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno, and other musicians of that sort to see what makes them tick. 😅
It’s such a shame. I presume someone who knows them well has reached out to them and told them that they’ve essentially got what they wanted: a place within the forum which won’t be as highly moderated where non music topics can be posted and discussed.
Except it is not what they wanted. My guess what they want is the ‘good old days’ back…
You didn’t have to watch the video.
But you also didn’t need to ask for moderation… just walk away. Not interested.
That’s the way public spaces tend to work with some regulation and policing actions.
There’s an IGNORE feature that can help punish someone that offends you.
C'mon, we don't really need to pick at this particular sore, do we? 🤷🏼♂️
There was lots of room for different interpretations of the earlier guidelines and what should have been moderated vs left alone. That problem has hopefully been fixed. Seems to me it's time to move on in a positive direction rather than debating over how things should have been handled earlier.
Just my opinion. This is the Other space, though, so feel free to have at it ... respectfully of course ... if you disagree. ✌🏼❤️
🙄😂

Haha!
While I don't agree with Simon's having gone around policing the forum for innocuously off-topic posts (and find that role somewhat amusing given the number of times he has scolded me in the past for asking people to be respectful..expressing disdain for "tone policing"), I don't think he should be held responsible for the people that left...it seems like there was more to their choices than that.
@Michael Thanks, the rules you set for "other" offtopic are really fair !
For me this forum is far away from just about ios music .. it's community of people with diverse opinions from many many different countries and cultures and it is great to see opinions about all kinds of topic from such different people .. even if we sometimes (most of time ?? lol) disagreee and even throough sometimes discussion is, let's say "less smooth", it is still great for learning to look out of personal bubble.
The rule at the time was "music only content". The post broke that rule. Unlike you, who would "walk away", I did the right thing and complained.
You don't think that was the right thing - fine. Everyone has an opinion.
Gee... that's big of you.
Glad I was able to amuse you though. One positive out of all of this.
Please move this post to the newly created Opinions category.
There's an "opinions" category?
I can't keep up.
Maybe the choice to announce the 'Other' category in the main view and pinning an 'Other' designated post, when 'Other' material was supposed to be separated from the main view, is not the ideal approach.
I will from now on be avoiding the 'Other' category, but just wanted to express my favorable opinion and one slight reservation to our host and yourself @wim. To have to go on an 'Other' post to do this is while understandable, a tad conflicting lol.
Out of such events you can learn a lot about who some of these people are. That context proves useful to really understanding motivations, agendas, biases…
It’s because of 8 years of experience I know that what was lost here was important tho me.
Thankfully @mchael has proposed some latitude for “Others” uses which some people Will enjoy until it goes off the rails again and this pendulum swings back.
History rhymes.
Does anyone know the answer to this?
I believe so. Is there something that makes you think otherwise?
…so we can just post anything here???
Thank you. It's just an extra step to check new posts so I want to know if I need to do the same for any other categories. Don't want to miss out
Oops. Sorry, I meant to answer last night but got distracted.
The Market Place category is the only other one excluded.
Hmmm.... well.... although I like the bookmarking option... now it seems now that moving "other" topics off the main feed effectively kills them with little or no interaction.
Looks like the main feed is strictly audio app tweakers and new app announcements only.
I guess those who complained about the threads that were off topic, but still interesting to many like myself, and community building... finally got what they wanted.
I'm not stomping off in protest or anything... but this site seems less fun now.
No worries. I was spending way too much time here anyway.
The NJ Drones thread and the Censorship thread have had more, and more interesting, activity since the change than before. The XP4N thread, probably less.
@skiphunt - I don't see any other evidence yet that other threads have been effectively killed. The rest in there hadn't had any activity for a while already.
Check the Other Music Content area. That's in the main feed and goes way beyond "audio app tweaks and new app announcements". Anything even remotely music related goes there.
I think you may be over-estimating the effect of the change a bit. ✌🏼
I'v moved the XP4N thread to Other Music Content. @brambos being primarily a music app developer is enough connection to music to justify the move.
If anyone sees other threads that should be moved out of Other, maybe flag the moderators so we can consider it.
Perhaps we need an ‘other creative content’ category as there’s often good stuff people make that is hard to place in music categories… there’s been some great threads about various art projects people have done…
Bit of a stretch IMO... but ok.
Ok.
That's what the Other Music Content area is for. That one appears in the main feed. Other is for completely non music related stuff and/or stuff that would benefit from a bit looser moderation. For instance, if a music related thread starts to go rabidly political, rather than closing down the thread there's the option to suggest that part of the discussion be taken elsewhere.
@wim curious... how many people were actually complaining about the "other" stuff in the main feed that justified all the changes?
I wasn't paying that close attention, but it seems like it was only 2 or 3 people complaining. I could be wrong.
Doesn't matter. My comment about needing to spend less time here is true. I obviously dig iOS/iPadOS audio apps and will certainly check in every now and then... but long threads about app interface minutia isn't my jam. I get that it IS for many here though. So, yeah... peace out. ✌🏼
