Guitar to iDevice cable with headphone socket
I used to have a generic little box thing that took my guitar cable, dropped it into the headphone socket in my iPad or iPhone and I could AUM to my heart’s content listening through the included socket on the little box. For some reason it eventually freaked out and would just feedback directly into the headphones so I stopped using it. Are there any cheap versions of this anyone would recommend? I wonder if it’s just possible with one of those old DV camera jack splitter things that you use to get composite and stereo out of an old school camcorder? That would be a nice light solution to just jamming on the couch with the ability to record and effect stuff…
Are they any good? Obviously a ripoff but maybe serviceable, though I think I’d there’s a cable only solution that would be lovely…

I have an old one. It’s noisy and cheap sounding. There’s a reason they replaced this with the newer iRigs.
I like the Line6 SonicPort, but I've read that it will only work with older iOS versions... I should check that.
I do actually have one of the smaller irig ones, but I was after something with little to nothing of a footprint/weight tbh. Something that doesn’t feel like it adds another object to the mix of me, the ghost and the iPad on the couch. I managed to shred my ankle a week or two back so I’m trying to stay still with elevation etc…
I'd go with a wireless system. They're not too expensive and fairly low latency (check the specs when shopping though).

Mine works great with current iOS. Use it all the time.
Fender absolutely CRUSHED it with this - in fact, it’s SO good, I am considering selling the best amp on earth (axe fx 3) because this sounds good enough to me….and im not a tone head but this thing ACTUALLY sounds like The Fender Twin reverb , prince reverb, reverb deluxe, etc…the clean amps are so good, and the hi gain amps are incredible……
Im telling you there’s nothing else like this - headphone amp + interface+ tuner + amazing tone app + BT audio receiver+ USB C, etc…..no messy cables, no connections (besides one usb c to iPad), and no need to download or update anything [the 100 presets are created and edited using the fender tone app]
It’s an all in 1 solution, with no quality spared

It’s the best $120 i spent on guitar ….maybe ever….
I've had two off Amazon. Both seem to be knockoffs of iRig. I can't tell any difference between them and the real iRig. One worked for a few months then died. The second one never worked.
The Joyo interface is a real cheapie but a cut above the iRigs. Plus it does not require a headphone jack.
iRig X would be my alternative
(But that requires more wiring)

This Lin’s like it might be as minimal as it gets maybe, along with requisite lightning/USB c to USB a adapter..
As much as I love my Line 6 Sonicport, I just bought the Fender Micro last week. It’s going to be great.
You’ll absolutely love it - I’ve never been more sure of a recommendation in my life as this is a pretty singular product.
Did you get the standard or did you spring for the OLED screen plus? IMHO it’s so worth the extra $30
I’ve had both and totally agree the Plus is worth it. Apart from the App that allows full customisation, and the built in tuner, the Plus also supports bi-directional audio over USB (which the original didn’t).
Get a long USB cable and plug into your DAW/Looper of choice - priceless… 👍
Second choice would be Arturia Minifuse 2 which is so convenient with built-in USB hub for midi keyboard… One cable iPad studio…
There is another option: NuX Mighty Plug Pro

Just got myself this little sucker as a more mobile guitar interface to couple with my iPhone.
For proper gigs I'm using the Harley Benton MP-500 (Tone Shifter Mega) with my iPad.
A lot of interesting boxes, though none as simple as I’m hoping for, cheers folks 🙏
I think the issue may be that, looking at the audio input gadget you posted above, that won’t work for a guitar input level…
Yeah it seems that there’s no options as I envisage, weird, as I’m sure I did cobble together a cable solution years back, and even saw a tutorial on it somewhere but I can’t find it now…
Are you thinking of the old, old, old iRig adapters that plugged into the iPhone/iPad headphone jack? Those sucked.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/166945713517
I see one on eBay for $6.35.
Yeah totally, I know they sucked qualitatively, but it was that simplicity and freedom that dragged me back into music making after losing interest for years due to my tendency to over complicate and GAS myself into a corner😅
I just did try an old composite video /audio splitter and it’s definitely not quite right though, shared earth maybe, or perhaps that impedance thing that seems so important😆
I wouldn’t compare Fender and NUX lol, There is something else called the Boss Katana Go, but it’s discontinued, and there is also the fender micro (non plus version ), and ofc the Vox ones…
Like I said, nothing else like this (at this level of quality, like from the device itself with the onboard controls, to the OLED, to the app ) - on paper the Nux is “better” than Boss, Fender, and Vox - I can assure you, it’s not , even though i must say it sounds like it’s sick haha I wouldn’t mind trying it but just like I disregard certain brands off rip I just the same wouldn’t compare Fender to an Ali express version, that’s all I mean
[and it’s reported the katana go is incredible too]
(I also wouldn’t recommend someone buy something I haven’t used, and while Nux is a decent alternative for the cheapest possible solution, I wouldn’t tell someone to spend $120 on a knock off basically when a better product I tried exists )
From back in the day

Can confirm, my original iRig - well over 10 years old - works flawlessly on my sofa. There's a bit of a hiss, but Brusfri could easily handle it.
Haha I have that one
I think someone already mentioned the tiny Joyo Momix cab interface, I like this a lot and only £15ish. Super lightweight and no CCK required, it's USB C and comes with a lightning adapter. 1/4" guitar in and a headphone out.

Fair enough. I'm long term user of Nux Mighty Plug (Plug Pro now) and have no love to Fender sound so I'm definitely biased I saw Leon Todd's FMMPlus video and some tones are really great, some are nothing special. No IR support and what I've read on TGP thread you can't use compressor/OD/DIST together because there are in one group. No mention about USB latency (I'll let you know in latency thread when I have a chance to check it)
PS: I don't think Thomann would dare sell stuff with Aliexpress "quality" and they have this NuX on offer.
Hmm that one does look quite good actually, small, self contained and best of all, cheap 🙌
Oh you’re a user!?
Why didn’t you say so!
That’s totally different man
I thought you were just tossing the name into the ring based on availability
But if you have tried it an it can reproduce IR well, then by all means, it’s definitely worth a look, as I said, on paper it is appealing to me
FWIW, I know the mustang micro uses mustang tone pro modeling algorithms which are really incredible.( I didn’t mean to diminish Nux on face value to invalidate your opinion) so I love the overall package of the plus, but nux definitely worth a try
Thanks for mentioning it
PS NB also fwiw I look to these modelers now more for cleans than hi gain. The cleans of the fender are done really well , especially if you like fender. How does Nux reproduce hi gain, like mesa boogie rectifier ? If you get a chance please lmk how you like that ?
Here is a short sample of Fireman, DualRect and Die VH4 from my patches. The cab is an internal M1960TV (no external IR used there). Excuse my sloppy playing. As I get older, I need more and more time to prepare

Nice one, there are a lot of lookalikes on eBay, but I suspect they’re knockoffs tbh
That sounds FANTASTIC - your playing was clean !
Shoot man, I might have to get one now and return the micro plus haha
Idk man it’s really good tones
nux is actually better than I expected
How’s the app? How do you like the interface and how is tone creation?
How long have you had it?
Thanks
