Thank you for taking the time to look !

  • @Krupa posted some great photos in the XP4N thread of fog in the Pennines… I’m in the same area and spotted this yesterday… not the best photo but never seen it before… its a fog bow !

  • Wow I’ve never heard of a fog bow before. Very interesting!

Here’s a photo we took this fall in our North Carolina Mountains. It was right after hurricane Helene came through, but as you can see it didn’t hurt the beauty of the mountains. I didn’t tweak these colors at all, just resized the photo. Looks like a Bob Ross painting come to life.

  • Nice photographs. I hadn’t heard of it so I did a search. Looks like a beautiful place to go hiking! I have a bit of arthritis, but I can still enjoys the pictures. We have a mated pair of ducks in our area that look just like that. We put out seeds and bread and they don’t seem to be afraid of us.

I took a course in B&W photography in college. I wish I had pursued it further. The instructor was a fan of Ansel Adams and discussed some of his darkroom techniques. I gave away all of my pictures to friends. I wish I had kept a few in particular. Hope you have a Happy New Year!

That’s really cool. I don’t think I’ve seen one of those before. That would be a great graphic and subject for a piece of music. Is it digital? If so, you could easily bump the contrast. Happy New Year!

Woa, that’s a new one on even me😅

That’s absolutely gorgeous! We don’t see much like that around Chicago. I hope to retire soon. That looks like a perfect place. Happy New Year!

  • I’d never seen one before… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fog_bow
I bumped up the contrast a bit @McD as it wasn’t the best of photos but thought it was unusual enough to post.

  • @Syn Thank you for your service, sir!

  • Stunning bird, the Great Blue Heron. This one has a small tuft of down feathers stuck on the end of it’s beak from grooming itself.

You really take some great bird photos, @McD. How close are you able to get up to them?

The Heron photo in the top post was taken using an 800mm Telephoto on a Sony A6400. The distance was around 50 feet away. So, the equipment was essential to “feel closer”.

The Heron photo just above was taken with my iPhone from about 10 feet away sitting in my car as I pulled over at a park to
capture the shot before the bird flew away. The bird getting used to cars driving by made all the difference. It was fixated on capturing a ground squirrel when it might surface from it’s hole and probably weighed the risks of staying in place for a potential meal or taking flight to find another good spot to hunt from.

We saw a Bobcat yesterday… iPhone shot.

@dav @McD @Syn y’all’s stuff puts me to shame. @Syn I’m saying pick up that camera again

for whatever reason I’m having no luck posting anything from my iPad maybe later. Uploading photos seems to be blocked now for Safari, Firefox etc

since when I wonder, I’ve posted many in the past

This one’s been hanging out in a field near my house a couple of weeks now, I think she’s identifying as a sheep, maybe just for the winter 🤷

  • Some great pics here. Thanks for starting this thread @McD and all for sharing. I particularly like the Fog Bow @GeoTony.
Whilst driving to work the other morning I spotted some dolphins (and perhaps the Loch Ness Monster) frolicking in the clouds.

  • From the 2016 Moogfest in Durham, NC

  • Another walk in Palo Corona Park:

  • Great photos, @McD! Was the cat after the bird? Those eyes are focused on something…

  • @Littlewoodg: Incredible backyard landscape you have! Has a quiet beauty to it. I took one one my backyard. I just have woods and a creek.

  • Here's a sunrise photo I snapped on my iPod Touch at North Myrtle Beach, SC. The seagull wanted in the photo. Took this off the hotel balcony we were staying at, they want to use this on their website.

  • Nice heron and cat again @McD and lovely sunset above Dav

I got closer to the deer who’s sheltering in a nearby field yesterday, I thought maybe she’s got a slight injury she’s recovering from as her gait was a little off… sweet as anything

I see why they want that shot for their site. Perfect timing, framing, color. Wow, bless that iPod touch.

And that forest…the shot gives me feels, as my 22yr old would say. Very special image

Thank you @McD for getting this thread going, and sharing your stuff. Your images and yours @Krupa of these living creatures inspire love.
