Does it do anything better than Koala?
Or Samplr?
It’s focused on spreading multiple samples across a keyboard, you can load up to 12 samples I think, a good rule of thumb is to put a sample every 3-4 notes across a keyboard.
For example if you have one shot samples that are pitched, let’s say from a Moog Bass. You place the samples on the keyboard in their location ie. C2, D#2, F#2, A2, C3, etc… and chameleon with stretch the sample to fill in the missing notes. You can also use one sample and stretch it across several octaves if you want but the further you stretch a sample the more it will shift in time and speed, creating inconsistent sounds. By using multiple samples across a few octaves you’ll get a more realistic sound. It’s somewhere in between AudioLayer which allows multiple velocities for each and every note across a whole keyboard, and AASample Player which takes one sample and stretches it across all keys.
Hopefully that makes sense. It’s best if you have access to multiple notes of the same sample (ie. C2 D2 E2 F2 G2 A2 B2 C3) and want to build your own version of that sound In chameleon.
Definitely check out a vid or 2 to compare. Cheers!

You can do this in ThumbJam too. Back in the day I made lots of my own instruments
Doug just did a vid on it:

Alright I took the plunge and wasted $4 bucks so u don’t have to. Honestly, it only took a couple minutes to delete. Just changing presets alone caused my DSP to skyrocket and cause all sorts of clipping. YMMV but if you’re on the fence, I’d head home.
@Poppadocrock you deserve every tip/donation that you get. you consistently improve upon posts. Good stuff man.
Really. Huh, weird, maybe you didn’t get past the memory threshold. Ironically if you load a few more apps to the session it might settle down. Long explanation but that’s the gist of it. To unlock the full processing power of the device you need to get past a certain point, so if it’s a small session and spiking, try adding some apps to the session it might help with the cpu.
Also the presets are nothing to write home about, its best part is building your instruments from multi sampled synths and real life instruments.
And thank you @ejacul337
Appreciate the insight poppa. That does make sense actually since it seemed to settle after a bit with each preset shift. Still learning the ropes.
The presets did turn me off a bit. Perhaps I judged too quickly, I’ll give it more time.
I’ll put this in the other thread too but THU for desktop is free until January 20th
https://www.overloud.com/free-thu
Fucking subs. They ruin everything. I was excited for a few seconds.
FYI: Offer ends on Monday 20th Jan.
Works well, no problems creating my own instruments. It’s like Audiolayer without the head scratching bit.
I noticed that the built-in reverb seems to lower the output level, and may affect the spectrum as well. It sounds much better with reverb turned off.
I actually think the Chameleon presets are really nice. I must like plinky sparkly bells I suppose! Worth 3.99 on their own.
Yea, some of them are actually pretty nice. It was interesting as poppa said I started adding a bunch of different apps. No rhyme or reason seemingly but DSP actually stayed a bit more stable.
Interestingly the one that continues to give me issues with DSP and makes it nearly unusable is the rotten pool reverb… not to get off topic.
There is rhyme and reason to this, tho it's not something I understand on any detailed level. It's something to do with how multi-core processors work. If you run only one plugin, it might use just one core of the processor. Adding more plugins can initiate distribution of the workload across multiple cores, improving efficiency, resulting in lower overall CPU usage. This is why it's never a simple question when someone asks 'what's x plugin CPU usage like'. Sometimes with one plugin running usage is very high, the you add another plugin and usage drops dramatically
Is there any secret hack how to go to the next preset in the Chameleon instead of opening preset combobox, select of category and then choose inner preset?
Or even on single cores, it can switch modes from low power to higher, giving you the full headroom of the processor when you push it a bit rather than the capped lower power setting…
@filo01 If you press and hold the preset the selection dialog will remain open.
Any chance you still have them and would be willing and able to share? I still use Thumbjam all the time and it’s so hard to find additional presets…
+1
Nice, thank you!
I'll see if I have them on a backup disk somewhere. They were mostly based on the Moog synth... back then we didn't have many Moog apps like we do today. However there was also a Thumbjam forum where people could upload their own creations. I think I got a bunch from there as well from other users.
Yea, they aren’t bad. Some are better than others.
@AtticusL Bells are special brother. I'm a sucker for 🔔. They're the second most spiritual sound sans the Shofar ( wonder if there is a shofar synth)
There's lots of great conspiracies about "the removal of the bells". It's a pretty entertaining read and makes you wonder why universally all societies have abandoned the bell. It's fun because it ties in sacred geometry, esoteric sine functions, history, religion, politics(liberty bell), even Tartaria and the mud flood. Fun stuff.
Love bells
