[Sample Flip/Collab?] Syncopated riff: A 4-Bar Loop to Build On

Hello everyone, and Happy New Year! 🎉

I’m jumping into the fantastic collaboration idea @Fruitbat shared in their thread: Interactive and Collaborative Creation.

Here’s a quick 4-bar loop I put together in Gadget. It’s got a straightforward kick-snare beat, a pedal tone, and a simple guitar riff using Santa Ana. I’ve been experimenting with syncopated chords and subtle 80s-inspired touches—just keeping it playful and exploratory. No main melody yet.

I’ve attached the three midi files but happy to provide anything else. 👍

I’d love to see where others might take it. Sharing this with the hope it sparks some inspiration—can’t wait to see what we can create together!

Prepare to be shocked at the changes, but the whole basis for this initial track idea came from your midi files being manipulated!

Now I can either carry on, or collaborate further with you taking whatever material you need and carrying on with the track? Or we can do both.

Just to add, I may have another go with the files as my wife is going back to work soon and will have more time lol

Nice work! You lost me a little there in the middle, but then you got back on track! Impressive!

@AlexY it would be cool if you shared the gadget project as well, instead of just the midi. Might give it a try then, but with just midi I’ll mess it beyond recognition and then it won’t be a remix of your song anymore. But thanks for the inspiration either way!

Would be great to see what someone else does with this. I’ve just taken ideas from the general idea of the initial track to form a loose framework for further collaboration or me just working on the track.

If I had worked with the audio or as @pedro suggested, the gadget file, I definitely would have ended up with something more akin to a working of the original more closely.

I have to say, for myself whom has been suffering from idea burnout over the Christmas period, I found having at least some material and an initial idea to work from most helpful. While my track idea is very primitive at this time, it would have not even got off the ground without @AlexY posting this. So thanks for the inspiration @AlexY

Wow, very cool! Glad you were able to make something more complete and complex out of the little I shared.

I can definitely feel someone rapping over your beat but that’s beyond my ability lol.

I am going to see if I can do something with GeoShred first for a melody. Maybe dare to write some lyrics after…might take me a while since I’m so slow.

In the meantime I’ll look for a way to share the GeoShred project.

It says Real Sign, yet comes up as Harmony Drifter for me….I quite like that start though.
