The thing that interested me about this post was the idea of master patterns; for example each of your drum instruments (kick, snare, hi-hat, etc.) would have their own set of patterns, and then you would have master patterns that point to one of the sub-patterns for each instrument.

For those saying Drambo has (or can be programmed to have) this functionality, does that include the concept of these master patterns that contain other patterns? Where a song can be arranged flexibly using only the master patterns, without having to copy/paste sub-patterns?

Maybe not exactly like you’re envisioning but you can just tap clips from different tracks (columns) and scenes (rows) to have them all playing together their different patterns (clips). And with another tap create a new scene with those clips. So you can have different variations of clips per track and combine them away, till you find something you like and then just copy those to another scene

  • And that last part (copying those to another scene) is a single tap action (it was mentioned, but just to be clear). This action also respects any track mutes you have currently set.

You could also do another kind of master sequencing by using multiple Sequencer modules on each track, each triggered by a single note, and then have the master clips set which of these to trigger. But I think what @pedro describes is better for fast combo experimentation.

Yeah, using the sequencer module opens even more options. I feel some people are just a bit fed up with the common answer “drambo” for anything, but that’s what it is, a lovely versatile piece of software that is well worth putting the effort to learn, cause it’s not that hard, once you wrap your head around basic concepts. I mean if I can figure out 80% of what I’m doing half the time, so can anyone
I’m much more daunted by mirack, or audulus, or the one we shouldn’t name (all great though, and I tried them all as well)

I’m very curious to know what app we shouldn’t name 😄

  • This feels like a @cem_olcay kinda app

    1 knob for master

7 knobs for hat, snare, kick, ride, 2x toms, crash

Each have X patterns, master is universal 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc pattern for all knobs at once

Midilearn to controller for all kinds of fun

Might roll with dRambo in the meantime (learning that beast. This is 3rd 'simple' concept I can lock away for practice!), but a stand alone plugin sounds delightful!

(Ooo toggle button underneath each individual knob toggle triplets, momentary on main for a quick full kit triplet fill... My brains racing 😅)

  • Isn’t Poly 2 kinda doing this?

I still name Sunvox any time I can. I like living on the edge. :D
But on that note, is there a "Drambo 101" or "Drambo for Dummies" you'd recommend? I've owned it since day 1 but have never gotten in to it. Sounds like it is about time. I can search of course, just thinking if there is a compiled n00b's-course or (video) playlist of lessons you'd recommend.

I think Octachron is an excellent drum sequencer. Only the drum fills part was missing so I made Auto Fills and I'm super happy with Octachron + Auto Fills + PatternBud combo

I like to mention Sunvox too, but not as much as you swedes
That's the one app/program I am still a noob no matter which device I use (and I have it on iOS, Android, Linux, Windows or Raspberry PI)

Well, SunVox becomes more or less what user makes of it :sunglasses:

Here's a simple 2OP FM synth in AUM using 2 modules...
...FM module is set to always listens to midi-input.

Need a sample-player? Import a *.sample, set midi always listen to input and connect it to the output and BOOM!

For me SunVox is and will always remain as one of the 'Swiss Army-Knife Apps' together with Drambo and Mela and a few others.

    Totally
Love it so much. One of these days I mentioned on the Ambient effects for iphone thread that I loved using it as a field effects processor

Sorry for derailing this topic. But yep, regarding what @MonkeyDrummer mentioned, in Sunvox, the timeline + patterns combo is great. (Example image from the documentation)

  • I may be way off here, but I have to ask, are you looking for an app with predefined patterns for kick, snare, hi hat and so forth? That’s how the Lumbeat apps work. You can choose a preset, but what that does is select a factory supplied pattern for each kit piece to create the performance, but you can also do it manually by selecting from a scrollable list for each row. The same is true for DrumJam, where you can select a pattern per part or use a preset or randomize the choice.
