What's your favorite *sounding* IOS synth currently?

Very subjective question I know :)
I'm not up to date with recent IOS tools (and have an iPad from stone age)

My own current favs are:

Buttersynth (wish its comb filter had keytracking + release for physical modelling type stuff) and that the granular had stereo grain spread

Tardigrain just magical when played with a MIDI keyboard

Seekbeats a freaky sounding older drum synth

Obsidian at times and wish it was standalone

Poison 202 has character

**Virtual Ans3 ** despite the tricky UI

Synthmaster2 sounds good and is also deep but not a fan of the UI and has been too buggy

Still looking for a FM synth

  • Yonac Magellan II is one of my all time favorites when it comes to virtual analog sound for Berlin School.

  • Oh dear, a 24 page thread is born.

  • As always, Model 15 🤤

sorry, but posted on a Sunday, so might go under the radar

thx I'll have a look at it

  • @stelvio My favourite iOS Synth is SynthMaster 2, I hardly have any problems at all and I use it a lot.
I find it easy to program and have a full playlist of programming tutorials covering all aspects of the synth.

Funny, I like ButterSynth but found that to be buggy, every time I've tried to start a patch bank somewhere along the line it crashes and I lose my work, which is really sad because it is a fantastic synth.

I agree, Obsidian would make a brilliant AUv3, super powerful synth all around.

There are many others, iM1, Model D, Mariana, WaveCloud, and Alpha.
Factory is also a particular favourite of mine.

Just thought of another, Zeeon, that's another great synth and very stable.

Great idea for a thread 👍

  • @catherder Ah, yes, Yonac also make fab synths.
I think my favourite Yonac synth is Kaspar, that thing is bonkers cool beans, 8 independent synths and sequencers in one, more like a workstation.

  • Trooper comes to mind

I love morphing tons of parameters at once, and KASPAR might be smth for me!!

I was very early with it, soon after release so maybe they ironed the issues by now. I love that presets can be use in the VST too, though, I found the preset exchange system a bit awkward, and there didn't seem to be a way to share/send presets with friends. It sounds cool and the drag and drog mod matrix systen is a breeze.

It's actualy buggy here too, but my iPad is 11 years old... (a new one is coming soon)

The physical modeling and sample part is briliant, with FM also

    Thanks will def check them.
iM1 is kinda cool I find when you don't want to sound design and just focus on chord progressions and writing MIDI

Factory is also a particular favourite of mine.

I love the morphing fader in Factory and the random mod matrix, it's crazy!!! But it sounds super thin, when exporting to Live, which I assume could be because of my super old iPad

Just thought of another, Zeeon, that's another great synth and very stable.

Oh that one looks fancy, might try it

Great idea for a thread 👍

  • My favorites, ones I use the most are iM1, Sunrizer, iWAVESTATION.

  • I'm doing a lot with Twin 3 at the moment...

  • Toybox's synths are up there for me

  • Baby audio BA-1 is my go to. Zeeon, Alpha, the synthmasters, Twin 3, Tal-U-No

  • I’m not a fan of the interface, but I recently installed Tera Pro on my Mac, and it sounds awesome. Can’t really face making my own patches, but some of the presets sound as good as anything else on desktop.

  • Lol I’m sure this thread is clearing things up for OP

  • Sunrizer, Microwave.

Apple makes this cool app that helped me discover some excellent synths. I think it’s called App Store? Try grabbing all the synths on there.

    Synthmaster. all

  • I find choosing one favorite synth impossible, so I have a section on my iPad where I put my favorite ones. Here is the current list.

AddStation: great for making evolving and looping sounds.
Aparillo: same as AddStation, great modern evolving sounds.
BA-1: decent sounding simple layout synth for quick synth sounds and easy fx switch off.
DRC: if any digital synth can have a 'analog' feel, this is it!
    Fluss: fun granular synthesis.
    FRMS: more complex granular plus.
    Hilda: fun drone synth.
Trooper: my fav Yonac synth just pipping Kauldron to it. Has that Yonac sound, but slightly more refined imo.
Mariana: great Moog dual layer synth, does bass so well. Can be fiddly to control on a small iPad.
Mela6: great 'modular' synth that's easy to use, but lacks presets.
Mersenne: FM, noise and a resonator. Bells and lots more!
Microwave1: best wavetable software synth bar none!
Nambu: FM plus. Can be complex to start with, but great once you get it!
Redstrike: makes dirty sharp filthy grungy sounds....
RingsFX: based on mutable instruments rings and is just wonderful.
Solderbox: wonderful semi modular - in don't get it all, but it makes great sounds.
TB Flowtones: wonderfully sounding duel layer synth, I don't hear people talk about much!
Tera Pro: with all its addons it's a real powerhouse of a semi / modular synth.
Twin 3: one of the best designed synths on iPad imo.
Woodsynth: multilayered synth with its own quirky (imo) UI.

  • iSem is one of the best sounding synths IMO.
    And everything moog makes.

    Zeeon
    Twin 3
    Factory

And The Classic korg synths that need updated to auv3 😎

There’s lots of great synths for many reasons but imo these are the best sounding

  • Favourite sounding right now ... these are the ones I'm using mostly at the moment, ask me in 3 months and the list will change.

    Moog Mariana
    Twin 3
    Solderbox
    FM Zone
    Tera Pro

  • If I had to pick one only - probably SM2. Never have issues with it.

Microwave is a recent one that I’m liking a lot. And the toybox synths too!

  • My favorite sounding synth is Nerd Synth.

Also, the Dusty Rings Keys instrument in Decent Sampler which is available for free here:

    https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/dusty-rings-keys/

  • Poison 202
    Mariana
    OB-Xd
    BA-1
    Dagger
    Sunrizer
    Pure Acid

    honorable mention: SynthMaster 2

  • ChatGPT could you list me every iOS synth, and maybe some others, desktop, hardware, imaginary etc, maybe drop the odd note on how they sound and why you like them? 😅

  • You mentioned SeekBeats. That one is literally unbeatable.

However, FAC Drumkit comes close. It's actually a bit more powerful even, but just not quite as elegantly designed. It doesn't have a sequencer either if that's important. I'd have to say that one is the best sounding drum synth other than SeekBeats.

Hammerhead's custom synth drums are simplified and easy to get good SeekBeats - ish sounds. And of course there's always good ol' Ruismaker FM.

But as far as a SeekBeats replacement, I give it to FAC Drumkit.

  • Nambu, Discovery, BA-1, iM1

  • Poison 202, Aparillo, Synthmaster 2, Magellan 2 and if you don't mind IAA , Nave.
