    Not another f&*%$g subscription model… 🙄

I don't understand why anyone would care about that.

If you already owned Lemur then the app you bought will continue to work ... until it doesn't.

If you don't own the app and you don't like the pricing model, then so what? They're not a monopoly. There are alternatives. They have a right to try to make a living from their work the best way they know how.

Funnily enough most of the full time pro musicians I know, are running older, cheaper kit than I do as a hobbyist dabbler.

You should make an offer to rent your studio out to those aforementioned musicians 😉.

To me it isn't the subscription model that irks me (although I don't care for it personally). It's how much they're asking monthly/annually. For instance, Wotja is a reasonable $5 monthly sub should you choose that route with Wotja. Annual pricing seems $40 per major number upgrade.

Logic Pro is another reasonable monthly sub and annual sub. Lemur seems to be a fantastic control surface app, but $13 monthly/$100 annually is a very steep asking price. Luckily there are Lemur alternatives as mentioned above.

If the (their) target market supports it then what's the problem? They seem to think there's a market segment (not us obviously) that won't balk at paying that much for the requirements they have.

Do we get mad at Lamborghini for producing cars that are out of our price range? How about Rolex? Fender Custom Shop?
OK, unfair comparisons, but I'm sitting here wondering why people are bothered about this. Not that I think it's wrong to be bothered by it but I just don't understand the thinking behind this. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Oh I'm not bothered or losing sleep over it. 😂 It's not like I can't live without Lemur. But it's more the matter of the product costing too much for what it is. Just my opinions, that's all.

(Then again, a Rolex doesn't cost a monthly subscription, but it isn't worth the money when an Apple watch is cheaper. A Lamborghini in a loose sense is a monthly subscription if you finance one rather than purchase outright, but again not worth it when a Chevy Malibu would do. 🤣 I know I'm picking at straws, but again these are my opinions. Grain of salt.)

  • I shouldn't even ask such questions. I can't help it. I'm logic driven to a surely unhealthy degree.
    Carry on. 😎

  • I didn’t take you for a logic guy, @wim.
I thought you were team drambo.

Team Loopy Pro actually, though Drambo is key companion.

No I meant logic with a lower-case "L" not the Apple kind. Never touched Logic Pro and never will - on mobile at least. Probably not on desktop either since I'm already fixed up on desktop.

Well you certainly aren't Cubasis driven. 😂

Live long and prosper, mate. 🖖🤣

Lemur is back.....to be deprecated again in a few months.

  • I was so excited to see the announcement, but that price is just not workable, even for someone as app-addicted as me. Were I a working engineer/artist who used it every day, that would be one thing. I have subscriptions of similar cost for code development tools. But I'm not.

I like LP's UI building features, I really do, but it has design limitations that continue to rankle. I wind up using SurfaceBuilder more. And if I really really really want a non-AUV3 control design app, I'll deal with the arghness of TouchOsc.

    Meh.

  • Apparently they backed off the subscription. One-time price is high, but at least it reflects some re-consideration of their market. Link to CDM, because I don't use FB: https://cdm.link/lemur-dumps-subscription/

Thanks for the info! Sounds better now. Still a steep price but certainly worth it in some specific cases.

I do hope for the developer and the new happy owners of the app that enough people will become active again and provide new great Lemur templates.

I'm sure that the relatively low price of the original Lemur app helped building such a large set of control templates.

  • yes this is good news. Although there still is the same welcome screen. Theoretically one could buy the annual subscription, and expect to never pay again, as per Midikinetic’s post in the forum. I prefer to wait until I can buy the app.

  • I wish they could do something like 'pay to own,' where you subscribe for 12 months and then own the app outright.

  • Loopy is fine as a controller.

    I just gained a Faderfox pc12

because Loopy can do what I need the faderfox pc12, to do.

  • In other words.

The setup just keeps getting better.

  • Nice to see it back, but for the new price they better fix existing bugs and maybe even add or extend features. Won’t hold my breath.
