Loops with different bpm in same project, all triggered to start at same time

I'd like to record and/or import some audio into clips and after that I want to record some guitar into some different audio clips.

I want to ignore the tempo/bpm of the initial audio clips that I will record/import.
The guitar will then be recorded at 120bpm.

I plan to follow the approach described here:
https://forum.loopypro.com/discussion/63807/play-sample-clip-ignore-clock-state-bpm

Is that the only/recommended way to have clips with different bpm in the same project?

I'd like to trigger the AU version of LP to start playing when I hit play on the host version of LP, but as recommended in the post, above, I have "Host Sync" turned off so that the host version of LP doesn't override the AU's bpm settings.

Any recommendations on how to best trigger both the host and the AU version of LP to start at the same time, while leaving Host Sync off, in order to avoid the bpm in the AU version being overridden?

Thanks

  • @danm : there are many ways to do this. Here are a few:

    • set up a midi binding in the AU to start its clock. Have a widget in the standalone that starts its transport (Toggle Clock Pause ->Start) and sends the midi message to the AU that starts its clock
    • Same setup as in method above but have a Start Clock follow action that sends the midi to the AU to start its clock
  • Thanks @espiegel123. I'd like to try the "Same setup as in method above but have a Start Clock follow action that sends the midi to the AU to start its clock" approach.

I have no idea how to do this...Any specifics you can point me to or provide on:
    a) How to trigger play on the AU when I hit play on the standalone and
    b) How to trigger a specific clip, set of clips, or play group in the AU when I hit play on the standalone

    would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

  • I think I'm on the trail, watching this now...

In the AU, set up MIDI Bindings for whatever actions you want to trigger. They work
the same in the AU as in the standalone.

    • You can set them up manually in Control Settings.
    • You can use MIDI Learn

To use midi learn to set up a binding to start the clock in the AU:

    • in the app, create a widget that sends the midi event of your choice to the AU
    • in the AU, enter midi learn mode. Tap on the play icon. This will prime the command to be learned
    • In the app, tap the widget that sends the midi to the AU

If you aren’t sure how to manually create a binding, go into Control Settings and go into the profile where you want to create the binding. Choose Add Binding. It should be fairly straightforward to figure out the rest.

This last line was really helpful...I always get a lot of help from just a bit of the "how" added to the "what" in your responses, so thanks very much for that!
