Ahhh! Thank you!! Works like a charm!
String sections like in a symphony orchestra where you have first, second violin and so on. Same for violas, cellos and contrabass.
Thanks for replies to question.
2025 is shaping up to be an expensive year, but so worth it. Practice with Audioscope is going to pay off as Ambiente will slot right into that mixing workflow instead.
Ambiente is like the holy grail of room/hall simulators. Now I want to remaster my old tracks.
Some of the demos I've heard of the sections have been unconvincing in terms of expression. I'm happy to report (in case anyone cares) that a wind controller rectifies this (so presumably would an expressive keyboard or similar - anything that yokes dynamics to the pressure CC). I don't much like playing the solo strings with the EWI, but the sections are a different story. Absolutely loving these - and the addition of Ambiente has given the solo apps an uplift in sound as well.
Can I understand that Ambiente must be placed as an effect on the Master channel? I use Loopy Pro.
EDIT: I probably got it. It works like Audioscope from 4Pockets, so I will put an Ambiente instance for each channel I want to process, am I right?
For my first messing with it, just to test and move things around (LP is my main bread and butter)
I threw one instance in the prefader effects across each instrument (ie 3 swams, OneShot, Decent Sampler. There are 5 instances of Ambiente (A) icon screen. Not separate instances (A) (B) etc)
And I can record individual placements to donuts that way
Today, I'll be messing with midi automation and other effect slot placements (under colors for instance, just to test what it does) to see where else it can be used
Haven't done a deep dive yet, but will be absolutely be utilizing as long as my iPad doesnt crumble (I do accidentally push it to the line more times than I care to admit 😅)
I haven't yet tried multiple instruments playing simultaneously yet (like all 5 instruments explained above), so I honestly don't know CPU load or if a 10th gen can support all those insruments AND Ambiente, all running full blast will buckle or not
We'll certainly find out later today!!
Thanks @PapaBPoppin. I'm looking forward to your findings about CPU load.
You do not need to put a dedicated Ambiente instance on each channel, but you share one instance across the channels. In my case (simple iPad 9th gen.) this made a huge difference with regards to CPU.
If you put one I instance of Ambiente on the master channel all instruments will share the same spatial position. If you want to move instruments left / right and forwards / backwards with Ambiente you need an instance of it for each instrument you want to control.
Heads up- in AUV3 in loopy pro, it will NOT auto retain placement or names of instruments inside Ambiente on closing project. And saving an AUV3 state (preset) in Loopy Pro does nothing towards preserving that info either
Going to mess with preset saving and see if that does anything
Strange @PapaBPoppin , it works OK in AUM, both placement and names are preserved across sessions.
Don’t have LPro so can’t test in that.
Heard, thanks
Lemme run another test today to make sure
Did you have to save any AUM-side presets or was it all retained from just saving and quitting the session?

Here's events so far, for informations sake:
I saved thru everything (loopy canvass and lp AUV3 preset, but not Ambiente's in-built preset saving) last night, opened today to all 5 instruments being labeled Decent Sampler and all sitting in the bottom right corner (with a big red warning about overlapping sounds)
Re-selecting the LP Preset (picking another then repicking the user preset) does nothing to restore device names or placement either
I'd be interested to see how Ambience (for one instrument) would perform compared to Spatializer in terms of "feeling in the room".
Both @PapaBPoppin , saving in AUM and also just closing the session without saving and then re-opening the last session seem to work.
I haven’t used the Ambiente preset saving at all.
Interesting! I had run it on a freshly rebooted iPad, for note (rarity, but I'm learning) - so I'll play around today and see what I find. Thanks for the info!
This could very well be a me thing, too 😅
Ok, just tried testing, and I am unable to save Ambiente setting at all in Loopy
I did send a report ticket
But if anyone else has loopy and can confirm my issues (or help me out with what you did to make it work?), that's be a huge help
Just as I was typing this, I noticed a warning pop up in a SWAM Solo AUV3 about not being able to sync, it requires the SAME NETWORK PERMISSION as Ambiente!
So I had to open all instruments in standalone to accept permissions
When I reopened the project in Loopy, I found weird happenings - there were now 5 instruments in the room! Three squares all sharing the same name, but two circles with different colors
The three squares are the three instances of Ambiente I have on effects (removed one while testing)
The other two are auto allocated of two instruments in my setup! (Flute and trumpet. Double bass isn't showing up) OH The 'different' colors around are the icon colors!
So I just deleted all instances and put ONE instance under double bass, and all three show up (flute and teumpet are round auto allocated, Double Bass square for being added as effect). However only the trumpet is effected of the auto added. The flute stays at the same place aurally (when using in the effects slot, no issues)
ALL THIS SAID - I think a lot of the issues are just in the updating to make everything work in sync
So, patience is key xD
Ok, nice to see the Sections have made it to iPad, -a good news day 👍
I guess the questions I have are part technical, and part economical..
-I've bought possibly about 10 individual apps from Swam in the past, Viola, Cello, many more..
For a time (maybe 6months back?) I was using two instances of an app like Viola, and configging AUM to play the 2 instances at 2 diff octaves. It wasn't bad to be honest, and my 2018 iPad Pro handled it ok... 🫳
It is great 💥🐦🔥 to see that they've offered the 33% intro price, but, as someone who already paid a fair bit for the previous solo apps in total, might it have been decent to offer some kind of value incentive to those customers? I know it can be argued that the intro price is the answer to that... but when we scale it back... aren't we possibly paying a certain amount, for duplicating our existing apps? -and this bit seems a bit unclear to me?
I would theorise that the advantage with the Sections apps, may be that CPU overheads would be consolidated a bit for older iPad users.. for anyone who has tried Sections, is this the case?
My 2018 Pro is obv. quite long in the tooth now, I'm not sure if it would be worth investing in these Sections apps?
❔
🙏 have a bless Sunday ☕
Apart from CPU savings etc, a sections app just isn’t the same as 4 instances of the solo instrument. It brings the natural variations in timing, tuning, articulation etc that make real ensembles sound the way they do. Stacking solo instruments would create an unconvincing sound. You could probably manage it by playing around with the settings of each one, maybe, I'm not sure, but it would probably be a headache and probably still wouldn't sound as good
On another note I just realized can’t use Ambiente in GR2 due to not having auv3 effects on each part

@SkillipEvolver , the DSP figures that I get using the Violin section vs multiple separate Violin show little difference when using one instance of the section i.e. emulating 4, 5, or 6 instruments vs 4, 5 or 6 instances of Violin.
Where the difference really shows is when you have multiple instances of the section, so I was able to load 4 sections each of 5 I.e. 20 instruments in total as opposed to only 10 separate instruments before DSP went over 100%.
This is on iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (5th generation) using StepBud to drive the instances in AUM.
@Gavinski do you plan on doing a video for this? I’d love to get some insight before I pull the trigger on it.
Thanks for this answer Tony.
I appreciate the detailed test you did here.
That does give me some indication 👍🏻
Yours is the M1 chip of 2021.
My 2018 is obviously a bit before that.
One decent thing (I think), is that you still get your 14day return/refund option with App store I believe? So in theory folks with the older device can try it out and see if it works for them (technically).
Fair points. I mean, my method here was just to make things sound a bit fuller to be honest. Probably not something I'd record with, just sounds a bit more pleasing when you're playing along/over the top of your favourite tunes.-it's more pleasing to listen to (particularly if you're not particularly accustomed to playing violin(!) 😄
My habits tend to include: finding pared-back / stripped down versions of my fave songs, went then seeing if I can augment the track with my playing alongside it. I quite like the challenge of trying to get a sound as close to the original track as I can.
Haven't gotten my hands on Sections yet (...yet...), but that sounds absolutely amazing! Can you make a vid to see it in action?
I don't think so, tbh - I haven't even had time to check them out as I have a big sponsored project I have to work on for an upcoming app which will keep me pretty busy the next few weeks.
I'm quite disappointed with the absorption offerings at Ambiente. Even the "High" option is not enough for me, I miss something like "Very High", "Extreme" and ideally a full anechoic room. I sent a ticket to the dev asking if they plan to expand the absorptions in this direction.
I think there are plenty of videos on youtube reviewing the SWAM string sections, many by people who do orchestrations for a living. I also think the general consensus is that the SWAM string sections aren't quite as good as the solo instruments, at least incomparison to the more conventional sampled alternatives.
I can confirm what you described, I observe the same thing in Loopy. Thank you for sending the ticket.
