Best auto multisampler for ios?

Anything for ios that will both simultaneously play each note on any synth via MIDI at multiple velocities and create a multisampled instrument? Something similar to what the Nanobox Tangerine Compact Multi-Sampling Instrument can do. Looks like Logic Auto Sampler on Mac can do that as well. Preferably something with recent support and updates.

    AudioLayer

  • Thanks, espiegel123!

  • What about Synthjacker? Is that still available?

    It isn’t available and it wasn’t a multi-sample player.

[EDIT in October 2024, the developer said it would soon be removed from the store. I hadn’t realized he hadn’t removed it yet ]

Synthjacker auto samples (with careful setup), but it doesn't create instruments. It only chops up the samples for import into other apps. It's still available for now, though no longer being maintained, and will disappear at some point.

@hsi_tv - After about three tries I was able to get the AUv3 mFX plugin to load was able to route the midi to auto-sample. It appeared to work fine.

But then the sample files were all empty. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I then went to the standalone app and switched storage to local storage, closed it, then went back to the mFX version in AUM. It then auto-sampled fine and the instrument was available after saving.

  • Never got audiolayer to work, so I switched to Neon Recorder + Neon Chameleon and so far so good

I've done auto-sampling with three apps on iOS, most recently a month or two ago for creating a pack for Soundbox:

    • Synthjacker - Used to work great, but flakes out with my current iPad Pro and iOS 18.x. Going away as noted above. YMMV
    • Chameleon Sampler (4Pockets) - Works great, but doesn't perform multiple velocities, but you can hack it by running it multiple times at different velocities and collecting the samples together.
    • AudioLayer - Worked great most of the time, and autosamples with multiple velocity layers, allows easy export of the samples with names that identify them clearly in a single folder. I don't find the interface intuitive, but there's a few videos out there that show how to use it and it's easy to use once you know the workflow. I did have a couple instances where something went wrong, and I had to restart the app and try again, but it's my goto for this right now.

    • Meant to write 4Pockets Neon and 4 Pockets Chameleon.

Chameleon works great so far with AuV3's. It does everything automatically. One velocity only.

Neon is just a recorder, but you can export your slices if you don't want to use their Chameleon sampler.

Later today, I will try an external synth.

Something unusual is going on if AudioLayer isn’t loading as an AUv3. You don’t want to use as IAA.

What buffer size is set in AUM?

Can you load AudioLayer as an instrument?

What iPad and OS are you using?

Drambo's Sampler can do it too, and you can create any sequence of notes that you want to sample.

  • Can't load AudioLayer as an instrument. I have an iPad Pro M2, updated all apps. Buffer size set to 1024. In any case, I gave up on AudioLayer and ended up using 4Pockets Chameleon instead. Here's an update:

  • @hsi_tv thank you. very useful.
