  • Understand completely @supadom but BOOOOO all the same :)

  • Fun app. Good / useful effects that don't pop like some other vocal apps I've tried.

The only slight disappointment is that as far as I can see you need to record in live in order to apply the effects. So you can't record dry to a loop and then try out various effects until you're happy with one. (Please someone correct me if I'm wrong). And once the effect is applied there's no getting rid of it.

I guess you could record dry into Audioshare or loopy and then Audiobus in to this app, trying effects and then recording when you are happy with one. Slightly more hassle though.

    Good app for vocals though.

  • @Matt. That has been my experience also. Once you've recorded a loop you're locked in to the effected/dry sound. The simplicity of the looper makes it a winner in my mind. No humping around, just right to business. Dev support has been outstanding. Thought I'd pass that on.

So just tried loopy into voicejam via audiobus. Very nice pairing. Works well to audition fx. And means you can apply multiple effects on top of each other (bouncing to loopy and then audiobusing back into voicejam).

Also @mmp you can effectively use it as an audiobus fx because nicely voicejam allows itself to be both an AB output and an AB input at the same time.

    So

AB chain 1: loopy (or any app) > voicejam

AB chain 2: voicejam > Audioshare (or any DAW)

Very nice. And makes it work like it's in the FX slot.

  • ^Nicely done.

Once again, some great tips from you Matt. Thanks!

  • Thanks guys.

I'm liking this app a lot now. The trick for me was pairing with AB and loopy (should be able to midi sync with loopy too) so you can get your dry recording of your phrase or whatever, done. Then start messing with the effects as a separate stage. Applying multiple effects gets interesting.

Another tip is wiggling the pitch bar - this can almost be 'played' with some effects eg allowing you to make a spoken phrase sound a bit like its sung. Try it with 'psychedelic echos' for example. Also good for just for some nice warping.

  • Thank you Mister Fletcher, good insight and anything that involves a legal encouragement to wiggle the pitch bar gets my vote etc.

Happy wiggling then. I'd say this was a 'buy'.

  • How much CPU does it use? Just wondering how my old ipad2 would cope...

  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000
    Thanks, Matt.
But, actually I was thinking of something like iFretless Guitar->VoiceJamStudio->Auria...

  • Hi @mmp.

    So just go:

AB Chain 1: iFretlessGuitar (input) > voicejamstudio (output)

AB Chain 2: voicejamstudio (input) > Auria (output)

That should work (although I haven't tried that specific combination) and mean you are using voicejamstudio as a live AB effect.

Well, there goes my afternoon... :)

  • Oh well :).

It should work with any app combination I'd have thought.

  • Thanks @Matt_Fletcher_2000, that does work!
VJS keeps popping up the notice about connecting headphones or PA when in Output slot, blocking its own UI, I think you can stop that by going to the VJS app by selecting it through iOS rather than the AB icons though.

Have only tried it once, not sure if it was a fluke.

  • So @mmp, how is it with ifretless guitar?

  • edited November 2014

I never got that alert last night. I was probably app switching using ios though (I normally do). And of course I did have headphones plugged in.

    Anyway, glad it works.

  • oh, yes of course, I had cans plugged in as well.

It's great with iFretless guitar and might even be better with the brass and sax, I just haven't had the time to try yet. The effects show their quality, probably great with any app.

Voicejam studio is only showing up as input slot in AB for me. Tried reboot and reinstall. Any thoughts as to what I am missing here? iPad air 2, iOS 8.1.2 also tried on iPad air 1, iOS 7.1.2 with same results

Try starting Voice Jam Studio first, then opening up AB, you should be able to add it to the output slot then.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately it did not work for me on either device.

Both of my iPads are running AB version 2.1.8. The VoiceJam Studio manual shows it in the output slot in AB version 2.1.7. Seems like there might be some sort of incompatibility with the 2.1.8 version of AB since I am getting the same results on both devices running different iOS versions.

  • Have you tried a reboot? Also, this quote from @Sebastian may be helpful...

"...back your stuff up, delete the app in question, reboot, install fresh from the App Store. That usually solves about 80% of all problems."

  • Yes, reinstalled and rebooted on both devices. :)

  • With AB having moved to the inter app audio format, is it now ok to open other audio apps first? The rule always used to be you had to open AB first to ensure that the buffer was set appropriately. Is this no longer the case?

  • thanks for everyones help with this one

  • @Ringleader.

Try adding it as an input in AB first

Then as an output in a new AB chain.

For some reason I have found this is necessary to get it to show up in the output list.

  • This app got a really useful update which for me makes it much more powerful. There are two IAP's on offer one giving complete MIDI control to almost every setting. Brilliant.
