SURPRISE! NEW: King of VHS: VCR Synth ** OUT NOW **
Hey friends! I’ve been quietly working on a follow-up to VHS Synth.
SURPRISE!
Introducing… KING OF VHS: VCR SYNTH
Truly, it might be the best-sounding app I've ever released.
No big launch campaign, no hype machine, no influencer army. I only told a handful of YouTubers about it less than 48 hours ago 😅
It has a TON of NEW features. You can check out the full list here:
https://audiokitpro.com/kingvhs
Since we don’t track user data (ahem), we can’t find everyone who owned VHS Synth. So I'm launching this at just $3.99. That includes everything. That’s my break-even point for sample licensing.
This intro price might be the best deal in App Store history. (Bold claim, but I’m sticking to it.)
Huge thanks to Brian Funk for letting me use his amazing sounds again.
Oh, and one last thing... no subscriptions. Ever. It's just me making decisions for the app.
Hope you dig it. Can’t wait for you to hear what it can do 📼
EDIT, IT'S OUT NOW:

The proverbial "WAIT, THERE'S MORE!"
The Wabi Sabi Waves updated preset pack (currently sold separately for $4.00) will be included for free in an update for anyone who buys before April 30th

you’re too rad. thanks for this nice surprise and the upcoming s1 j6.
oh yeah! congrats!
edit: the music in the demo is awesome!
Oh! Another cartoon, I'll buy it just for that.
Sounds great, insta-bought!
Thanks for all your hard work!
Thank you. VHS was my favorite AK synth, and I’m happy to be able to repurchase it in more stable form.
Baller! Thanks @AnalogMatthew ! $4, that's an instabuy for me.
Just bought it
Worth it for the 80s VHS HORROR MOVIE and VCR 1-Finger Dream....and they are the only 2 I've tried so far :-)
Congratulations on the release, Matthew. I also bought a copy, so now you can buy all your old stuff back and Audiobus, too! 😉
VHS Synth was the AK synth I most regret having to delete, so this was always going to be an instabuy - looking forward to exploring it!
Sweet surprise! Even sweeter sounds.. big thanks for all you do.. 🙏
I love all of the “King of” series of synths.. keep it going man..
That reminds me…there really isn’t any reason to keep the old one on my phone any longer , is it?
Having had a quick play with this one now, definitely no reason - and it's one less tracking app on your phone.
Edit to add: Holy smokes Jakob's bank is awesome!
Instabuy
So great to see this come out from under your good self. Is there any chance you can make this Apple Silicon compatible for desktop use?
Just got back after a hiatus... And I had to double check, as I thought I already had you'd one! 😅
What's different between this synth and the previous version (which I still have)?
Also, +1 on the Silicon question!

What’s New?
Thanks everyone for your kind words!
🙏🙏🙏
It was a ton of work to get this out, so thank you for being supportive
I kinda feel like I bought this already and then you gave it away and this broke my projects (as VHS Synth is one of my favorite synths and in many instrument slots). But I guess probably the new one is even better and the intro price is very fair, so I bought it. Still feels a little odd.
Of course mate. I bought it twice - once for myself, and once for a friend.
I love your romplers and synths mate. Keep on with the keep on.
Exactly how I feel but I aint buying it either. I have way too many payed for AK products uninstalled to go at it again. L7 was one of my first buys, knowing nothing (not even heard of this forum) and man! I lost a lot of hair on that one. L7 is still (pretty much) useless, 4 years later.
This is so freaking good…those pads are so warm…
@Pxlhg
Understandable. And a quick point of clarification, L7 was not made by AudioKit Pro. It was by Coda Labs, and used free AudioKit open-source code. And, we helped get the word out about the app.
Since then, we've encouraged people not to use the "AudioKit" name in apps unless it was made by AudioKit Pro. But, totally, I understand
Sorry if I walk into wounded history.
But what is the issue with the old apps? I Bought most of them but haven’t followed the development…
Have they disappeared from AppStore ?
I don’t want to start a discussion - just need a brief update.
This new app sounds amazing
There are a few threads on here if you want all the gory details, but the nutshell version (or my understanding of it - I may have some of the detail wrong) is some older AK apps that weren’t coded by Matt were sold to the same devs who bought Audiobus, on the understanding they’d maintain the code for existing users instead of dying a slow death. Except the new owners inserted a load of privacy-invading trackers, introduced subscriptions, and locked existing users out of the features they’d already paid for. It was all pretty horrible, and a lot of people ended up just deleting them all as they’d become useless.
I’m actually quite touched that Matt has created King of VHS. The app I miss the most is Retro Piano, but I’ve bought this one as a thank you for the gesture.
That's all pretty much correct, except for the part about "not coded by Matt". Who coded them wasn't a factor. There were some that Matt "saved" from being sold by purchasing them himself.
The company that bought VHS Synth and others soon added advertising trackers. They also made the apps subscription based. Initially they actually took away the ability to use the app without a subscription even if you already owned it, but fixed that after the outcry. They have since also removed the 3rd party trackers from some of the apps, but not from VHS Synth.
Only apps now owned by Audiobus Pty Ltd are affected. You can see which ones still have 3rd party trackers by checking their App Store listings under App Privacy.
By the way, Matt wasn't the one who sold the apps it was the company that owned them.
Thank you so much @bygjohn and @wim. Appreciated👍
I will go to the App Store to check for trackers, and buy Matts new app.
