I keep checking the Sugar Bytes profile on the Appstore for Dialekt. For as limited as it is, I already have ideas of how to fit it into my Cubasis workflow.
Heck yah, looks like a great way to sketch out fresh stems and the way you can adjust variations with so much control and maintain key etc I could imagine using this as the base for some sweet long mixes.
Same. At first I saw the limitations without realising it has an AUv3 version and said "I'm going to form an EP with just this". And I still plan that, but I also plan to use in Cubasis as well.
A true master can work around its limitations. There are some strange choices made by the devs. It all boils down to how much they are charging for this, as there are other interesting apps coming up as well.
Having played around with the desktop demo now, i have to agree: it will come down to how much it costs. Some interesting aspects to it for sure but I can’t help but feel it’s missing that Sugar Bytes magic compared to their other apps.
I suspect it’ll be priced high and therefore I’ll give it a miss unfortunately.
@Robin2 definitely worth emailing them with suggestions. Although I highly doubt that they can change the fixed track architecture, there are plenty of things they might be willing to add or tweak. I know that based on feedback from users or even just from video viewers, there are already some concrete plans for a future big update.
Thanks @Gavinski, that’s good to know. As i said though, it’s definitely an interesting app and i love some of the features but it’ll depend on the price for me. There’s nothing particularly wrong with it, it’s just not special enough, for me, to justify paying a high price (of course, i realise this is relative and a high price for me might not be for others). I doubt the suggestion that it should be cheap enough to be an impulse buy would be one they’d appreciate?
I shall still demo the free iOS version (it’s free with iap to unlock i presume?) with interest though. Maybe that’ll change my mind.
One thing i was immediately struck by with the PC demo though was that in standalone it doesn’t automatically resize to be fullscreen. This is something i expect from apps which are many years old, made for lower resolution screens, not from new releases. Obviously this won’t be a problem on the iOS version but i was really disappointed by this on PC.
Rebirth and Figure still working perfectly on my iPad , and Thor.
Shame Propellerheads gave up on iOS
I passed on that info about full screen btw, cheers
Rico from Sugar Bytes here, I built this thing, ask me anything.
Awesome to see new Sugar Bytes stuff on iOs! What will the app cost?
Why do we have a fixed architecture and only one sampler?
The sampler is capable of recording samples, and the samples are saved within the preset. This makes it easy to transfer your preset lets say from iPhone to desktop. You never have to take care of missing samples here, its all there. But the file size of a 10sec mono sample at 48khz is around 4mb. Now we have a file size limitation for the iOS installer. In order to have a fair amount of factory presets, we have to keep the size as small as possible. It´s also a gamble with all the different DAWs on desktop and iOS, some of them have a limitation to their song file size. With 8 samplers, we arrive at a file size of 32 mb, which is quite dangerous.
Regarding the fixed architecture, we have to live with that for the time being. In your DAW you can work with multiple instances.
I am also thinking about more sound engines, the next one being added is the Dust synth, emulating vinyl crackle. I can also add Synth engines here and there. For example I can add the Wavetable to the Mult synth. I will have to mess up the order in the synth menu though, since the preset asks for a certain entry in the menu and I don´t wanna mess up your songs.
Initially I selected the synth engines which fit the job for the track. I knew that would be critisized, but it works. and the Song Randomizer is one hell of a beast, selecting certain settings depending on the synth engine. So at least for me the fixed archgitecture makes sense and still forms a capable instrument.
24.99 for the iPad app,
9.99 for the iPhone app.
Welcome! @SugarBytesRico
Hi @SugarBytesRico ! Glad to see you here. Tell your team keep up the great work, and hopefully soon we'll see more of your plugins ported to at least iPad.
Okay, question for you mate. If I were to get the iPhone version, would I be able to transfer projects I make in Cubasis that have Dialekt as an AUv3 from iPhone to iPad seamlessly? Also, besides cost, what are the differences between the iPhone and iPad versions of Dialekt?
Yes, you can exchange Dialekt presets between iPhone, iPad and Desktop, that was the main idea for the project.
The iPhone has very few limitations:
-no pattern / fx keys
-some missing options like sound/seq isolate, extended midi settings
-no AuV3 plugin
Wish I had a name as cool as SugarBytesRico! Great to see you here anyway. Brace yourself…
Ah, okay. Think I'll just get then the iPad version. 😅 Missing features on iPhone version are not really my thing.
Your presence is very welcome here.
Hey @SugarBytesRico welcome to the forum. Dev presence in the chat is always appreciated.
Love your apps and have nearly all of them, and am looking forward to the iPad version dropping. Playing with the desktop demo in the meantime.
Also to say I'm relieved that you guys are still in the iOS game … would also love to see Effectrix 2 making it across one day (and Graindad and Obscurium). Just sayin’ 😀
Thanks for the love! I too would like to see more of our apps in iOS. There are discussions within the company and it´s not easy.
Sometimes the gui fights with the different resolutions on iOS, sometimes its difficult to convince the iOS dev that the work is worth it. Let´s hope for the best, especially Nest and Graindad are the ones that I would like to do.
Oh yeah! Nest would be amazing on the iPad. (And Obscurium!) I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Oh, man, I'd love to see those to on iOS...welcome to the forum...
@SugarBytesRico glad to see you here ,
love your apps , which is why I’m pissed Graindad wasn’t ported to IOS (also Effectrix 2) .
Glad you agree , if that is still under discussion in house please forward my pre-order for this
to the nay-sayers .
ReBirth was killed by Roland copyrights and probably still would have lived on if they hadn't. Yeah, there are still ways to get it but not via it's origin.
100%
Very kind of you, many thanks. Cheers.
Thanks for hopping on @SugarBytesRico
Much appreciated.
Dialekt is certainly a fun and fast app to get rolling on, so you definitely succeeded in that department.
My crit on wanting user selectable Track types comes from my use of other GrooveBoxes on iOS and iPadOS like Korg Gadget, GrooveBox, Ableton Note, GrooveRider 2 and Drambo for example, which offer a fairly rigid structure but a lot of freedom when it comes to user decisions at the Track level.
I hope you all find a path in the future to rework the framework to allow 8 Tracks (of the ones supported by the app) of any kind to be used in Dialekt so users can leverage 8 Slice Tracks, or any various combos that can be used to create.
I know that designing software for iOS, iPadOS and desktop is no easy task so i truly respect the effort and dedication to the craft.
Keep up the amazing work over at SB. I’m a big fan👊🏼🎚️💗
Congrats on the release and i look forward to seeing where you hopefully take the app.
Cheers,
-echo opera
Thanks for your kind words. I absolutely feel the criticism and I knew this would mean trouble. Nevertheless I had to follow my vision and work with the tools I have.
@SugarBytesRico Any idea on when the app will be available for ipad in the app store? (I can’t be the only one having checkd and re-checked all day.
)
You'd have to ask the Apple review team lol. I think they're often slow at the weekend, so hopefully Monday?
