Just a heads-up... The description from IK is very misleading in my opinion.
Here's a list of what you get:
"60 Basses" : 32 unique instruments
"57 Guitars" : 9 unique instruments
"25 Drum Kits" : 4 unique instruments
"7 Acoustic Pianos" : 3 unique instruments
"14 Electric Pianos" : 3 unique instruments
"11 Chromatic Keyboards" : 3 unique instruments
"5 Strings" : 3 unique instruments
"8 Brass" : 3 unique instruments
"8 Woodwinds" : 3 unique instruments
"300 New Instruments" becomes 151 "new" instruments. I consider a "new" instrument being a unique sample set.
Their idea of "new instruments" is adding simple FX to an existing sample set.
Harpsichords are rendered unplayable by background noise and stretched samples (with key-up sound)
Drumkits all share the same aux percussion sounds
The one new grand piano you get is OK.. less velocity layers than the other built-in ST pianos.
I would buy the percussion pack if it were $1.99 , or the synth collection for $5.99 .. but that's about it.
Overall, I feel I just wasted $20. Very disappointed with this.

I'm quite happy with the sound collection but I agree the description is a bit misleading, I expected more than 3 electric pianos based on the description. I'm keeping mine but I think refunding should be pretty straightforward if you wish to do so.
I've deleted the free version of Sampletank off my iPad. Even without false advertisements like this, they lost my business by taking this long to get rid of those annoying pop up ads. If it wasn't for that, I would have considered purchasing the upgrade/IAPs but I have since found what I've needed in other apps I actually use.
In the downloaded package file, there is a list of the new sample sets. This consists of 109 new sample sets.
I like SampleTank and a lot of the instruments that are included.
I've just demoed the app, the Harpsichord is very far from unplayable and you can hear nearly all the sounds being played, I have zero affiliation with IK and payed for the packs, just a heads up like
Even if the samples do sound brilliant it does not change the original point that Cubilas was making, IK Multimedia claim to be selling 300 new samples/instruments and their documentation states that it is actually 109 new samples, I would politely call that being somewhat dishonest.
The same thing with iElectric and iGrand isn'it? But just listened to Doug's demo and they're brilliant sounds anyway...when's their next IAP sale? ;-p
I dont feel cheated for buying the pack , so they have created 300 patches from 109 samples, I still have 300 individual new sounds related to that pack, some of them are very similar but they are different, every single sample pack people buy will have variations of the same sound, a good example is to buy a Drum Hit pack, you'll get like 50 snares, kicks etc, but you know what your buying.
And you can't please everyone all the time, IK Multiamedia and Retronyms get loads of heat here, that will always be the case, for the most part IK have always been blasted about the pop ups, well they are gone now and they will still get heat regardless.
From my point of view I would have bought the pack if it only had 100 of the sounds its got, I like them, but lots of people won't after watching the demo, at least there is an informed choice.
The perfect point was made when Cubilas said they would have bought the pack at 1.99, which seems they do like the pack, just not prepared to pay the price, which makes pricing the issue, they feel riped off paying 13.99, but it would have been a bargin at 1,99. I'm stuck with this too sometimes, I look at an app and think I can't in all honesty justify 20.00 but if was 1.99 I'd give it a go, a few developers have asked my opinion on pricing before they release thier app, I always tell them that they will sell units if the price is sensible and not related to the massive amount of work they put, or its nice to think the app is worth 20 but only a few will take the plunge, even if it is awesome. Or £5 and lots will buy at that price, and you'll make more money in the long term. But only because we as users are so used to apps that are either free or very low in price. Developers are now realising that its unsustainable to have to lower price on their app.
Its funny that nearly everyone loves the Mirislav Pack although many of the sounds have to similar, and far less than 300 variations too
@thesoundtestroom I agree with all that, it's a great deal and the sample variations are there for a reason. But it is good to have some clarity about the numbers if only to prevent confusion.
I agree with everything Doug said.The sounds are "brilliant" and when I get 300 great sounds
from 50 samples it's still 300 great sounds to me.On this forum is a strange smell when it comes
to IKM.I like all their stuff and I'm not affiliated with IKM in any way either!
If people only would start to recognize the mediocre quality in IKM samples and instruments in their all-in-one software, the world would be a better place.
@Brad_Moore Which all-in-one instruments software has the sample quality you are happy with, how many gigs is it and is there an iOS version?
Doug, first let me say I have absolutely no opinion on the quality or price of these samples because I have no use for them at this time, The only point I wanted to make was that Cubilas was correct when he/she said "the description from IK was misleading" I was grateful for the effort taken to share their experience of the Pack purchase. As Cubilas felt cheated, I felt that was good to know and then you say you did not feel cheated and thats also great information.
You are are without doubt highly respected in the iOS music scene and rightly so, I myself am a big fan of your laid back style and I really do value your opinion and hard work, but I also want to hear when someone has a grievance because I want to take everything into account when I make a software or hardware purchase. Often there are very good reasons why some developers get a bad rep and sometimes it takes a lot of grumbling to get them to change/improve how they do certain things. I feel we are all mature enough to recognise any false claims that may be cast on any particular developer. I fully understand if you feel defensive of criticism of App developers after all they are the people who make our dreams come true, but like most business the "smart shopper" will always choose the one they feel deliver the best customer service.
Thank you Cubilas , now I know why so many sounded so much alike. Still some of them sound good yes but problably will wait for a sale if I decide to keep sampletank on board even. I will play with it for a couple days at least before I decide if I can spare the storage space .
The problem with IKM is not in their software, it's with their PR management, who seem to be coming from the col.Parker school of PR. Advertising that is on the edges of truthfulness, or irritating, like the popups. It's needlessly cheap and overblown and rather degrading to some of their products by exaggerating numbers as in this case.
Their products do deserve better, because to my ears anyway they are of high quality. Thank goodness they seem to be learning from past mistakes by removing the pop-ups from their products and they do deserve credit for that!
My own reason for not going for this particular pack is that my iPad is packed to the gunnels already with other sampled instruments (including their own acoustic/e-pianos) and synths. Even so I'm tempted after watching the videos.
Doug, I like your vids also but I too appreciate Cubilas pointing this out for us. Good work on both of your parts. An informed app buyer is a happy app buyer right? Well hopefully .
Thanks, everyone, for chiming in here! I understand the people behind these apps do this for a living, and they need to make money to support future products (and themselves!) I am a programmer/musician myself, but you won't find me passing off a new "25-track album" consisting of the same 5 songs, each one subtily effected differently than the last.
@thesoundtestroom First, thank you for your review videos! My decision to purchase was only after giving your demo video a look & listen. This is the case for most of my iOS purchases. You do a fantastic job. I have never felt disappointed with IK Multimedia up until this purchase. Their products are really well put together with an incredible variety of sounds. I use their iLectric and iGrand live on stage on a regular basis (as well as ST). This sound pack really let me down. I was debating whether or not to just buy the Keyboards collection for $10 or jump in and get "300 sounds" for $20. I'd be pulling my hair out if I paid $10 for what they consider a 'collection' of keyboards.. In saying that, I did purchase iLectric and iGrand when they came out, but I am impressed with those sounds. Just to bring up the Harpsi again; the background noise as well as the key-off click for each note makes this sound like I'm sampling one note across the keyboard.. Your video did help me make an informed choice, but I find IK's description of what is in the package to be slightly padded with fluff.
@banjofran The only 'documentation' I found was actually taking apart the installation package. I was able to grab the install package as it was downloading to my iPad, and found the folder with the sample sets. There are 109 new sample sets included. This info is not noted anywhere else.
@mmp Yes, this is similar to them offering a few electric pianos with different effect 'flavors', but I consider iLectric and iGrand to be very nice and usable sound sets. Definitely wait for the sale (if it comes)!
@firejan82 Agreed. I am attempting to get a refund from IK, but I'm not sure how long they are going to run me around before I get a real answer..
@Tritonman2 Thanks for your words, and I agree. Doug has put time and effort into demonstrating these sounds, but I'm very picky when it comes to expensive sound packs and I guess I just expect more from IK. Let me know what you decide on saving or trashing the pack. In my opinion, I would rather have this space to load in some old-school SoundFonts that blow many of these Pack sounds out of the water.

This was a very constructive thread, and I was very pleased everyone had a good and legitimate say here, without it turning into something else
I can kinda understand both sides of the coin so to speak I guess. There are some lazy designed presets here. An example would be the 25 drumkits that are the same 3 kits with various effects applied on each preset. Slapping a phaser or flanger on a kit belongs in a "Bonus sub variation presets" category. This kinda goes for every preset with an effect slapped on top of it that doesn't really make any sense, other then padding. But I'm not seeing too many of those in this pack though. Lots of the presets and the new sounds created courtesy the various amp models and effects etc are really great, and well varied enough to be called separate proper presets. But I dunno...something like 250 presets + 50 bonus sub variations (or whatever) would perhaps been a better way for IK to put it. But stepping back, taking the price into account as well, I'm really really happy with these ~250 new sounds+sub variations.

@firejan82 Don't get me wrong here.. SampleTank for iOS has some really beautiful sounds, and I would consider its base set of sounds with the standard in-app purchases to be a fantastic and varied collection.

I like IK's stuff, but I always wait for it to go on sale because it always does.
Bought the pack and am happy with it, as much as anything because it took me back to Sample Tank and I ended up learning a few things and making some noise I like. Worth it. For me. But more than anything want to echo Doug and others; good legitimate chat about both sides of the coin.
So there are only actually 3 drum kits?
Cubilas, you mentioned soundfonts that sound better. Hey what app you use or recommend for soundfonts? And where to get them. Thanks man
@Musikman4Christ - Sorry for the late reply! The best SoundFont player I have found is Bismark bs-16i . Constantly updated and excellent support for large SoundFonts.
When I install S-Tnk I actually don't reinstall Sonik.
Grid and Full are just fine for me.
Same here; I also did not reinstall Sonik.
Count mine as another vote for bs-16i.
Excellent Soundfonts are provided, and it easy so easy to load additional ones.

the same hathing hapend inthe full vertion of the App, program changing to one sound and another, and, the apps close!, when the apps closet tells'me thas a pack instrumnets for purchace.
wwhats the deal?, i pay 20 bugs for ssample tank, but, some sounds ar missing?.
this isd a big issue but dispide this, simple tank is a grait product.

@pianino there are a lot of music apps that come with a set of sounds and have additional sound packs you can purchase via IAP. One way of looking at it would be that you don't have to pay extra for sounds you don't want and can support those sound packs you do. In the App Store descriptions you can read about what IAPs an app has as well as the sites on the web or in the app itself where you can preview an IAP.
