Considering purchasing Circa as it’s currently on offer and I generally really like it. One thing is stopping me though. I’ve been trying the beta version again and the link to host control just doesn’t seem to reliably link to the host’s transport controls.

It links to the host bpm just fine, but just tends to not respond to the play/stop of the transport.

Anyone have any insights here? It’s quite possibly user error on my part but I’m not sure.

Did you read the section of the manual about that? Pretty sure it doesn't say anything about play/pause behaviour of host. Host sync is just about making sure that beats and bars etc follow the host. Take a look at the manual (search for the word "sync") maybe to double check

Apologies, I didn’t see this earlier message for you when I answered before.

Yes, I did of course check the manual before asking here. Just double checked now and yes, it does mention the transport. Doesn’t this imply to you that it should respond to the play/pause behavior of the host?

No, because when u read on it states clearly that they're just using that to make sure bars etc are synced

Ah, I think I see what they and you mean now…so, if the transport is running, it will report the real time bar info so that the internal playback in Circa can begin in time - is that right?

Odd that it sometimes seems to respond to play/pause from the host then?

I haven't used it in a while, I can't remember whether or how it reacts to play and pause in host tbh

To chime in fwiw, I used to TestFlight circa too and my initial impression was “oh cool, it’s like multiple gausses in one!”. But the more I used it, realized most of my time was spent fighting with controls, syncing, and my biggest peeve, a lot of the control selections are super tiny and took a lotta finger mashing to choose stuff. So I found myself going to Gauss more and more instead until Circa started collecting dust. Also did a cpu test of circa vs multiple gausses and the difference was negligible. So ya, since you already own Gauss, I’d just stick with that over circa; my 2 cents.

(In hainbachs Gauss video, he explains that it wasn’t made w the intention of being synced to host, more an ambient/seat of your pants type looper, but I’ve managed to find my own way to use it as a synced loop recorder comfortably. Feel free to reach out if you’re having trouble in that regard 🤙)

Thanks @Squishy. Yeah, I’ve just been checking the beta version again after hearing @Gavinski ‘s points and it turns out that loops/layers 2 onwards do respond to the play/pause transport controls of the host but loop/layer 1 doesn’t - I’ve no idea why that would be or whether it’s a bug? Brilliant app but frustrating.

Yes, please do share your way of using Gauss as a synced loop recorder if you have the time, would be interesting to know. Maybe post it in a Gauss thread where it can be of use to future visitors and I’ll find it there. Cheers.

  • Circa owners, I need some advice:

I have been playing with Circa that last few day, I like it's focus and I'm controlling it nicely over MIDI. However when I tried to route to multiple outputs (in either AUM or Drambo), only the main stereo output seems to be exposed to the host. I looked at the manual and it says nothing about this feature missing on iOS.

Any thoughts? What am I missing?

    Cheers,
    stim

  • Multi-output works for me in AUM.

Change the Circa loop output by tapping MAIN in the Levels menu. Then create an Audio Channel in AUM and add a Multi-Output in the EFFECT Slot (not the main input, this has caught me out a few times).

That's it! Brilliant! Thank you so much
