Song Of The Month Club - June 2025
What is the Song of the Month Club?
It's a place where musicians come to give and receive feedback on their work. Anyone is welcome, whatever their level of ability.
The spirit of the club is to contribute: if you submit a song for others to comment on, you should also have the courtesy to listen to everyone else's contributions and give as much feedback as possible. Posting a track and not listening and commenting on others is not cool.
The purpose of feedback is to be honest. Essentially you should give your truthful impressions of the song, whether good or bad. Negative feedback, if done in the right spirit and with courtesy, can be the most useful and can help the artist to grow.
All submissions are welcome, don't hesitate if you want to contribute. We like all kinds of music and we are particularly fond of vocals (but of course we still love a great instrumental). If you are thinking of experimenting with vocals this is a good place to get started.
We ask that you only post one song per month in this thread - if you're lucky enough to be able to produce more, then please just submit your strongest material
And finally, iOS is not a requirement for posting here. If you've recorded your song using nothing but a ukulele and a Fostex 4 track, that's fine.

My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler:
A glimpse of you, that I see
Silhouetted silently
A glimpse of me, as I was
When you were still close to me
The stars will weave
A tapestry
Impenetrable to me
You followed me into the void
Our hopes were scattered and destroyed
And there in the darkness
We drifted slowly
It’s so cold, still we try
Holding back the tears we cry
You turn to me, silently
As we fade out gradually
In the dark
We can see
All the the stars and galaxies
You followed me into the void
Our hopes were scattered and destroyed
And there in the darkness
We drifted slowly
The things that we hide
When we fool each other
The tears that we cried
Here and forever
You followed me into the void
Our hopes were scattered and destroyed
And there in the darkness
We drifted slowly
I really like the verses and the pre-chorus melody is a highlight. The chorus is as catchy as ever and is augmented by a tasteful guitar solo/riff with awesome tone. The chorus lifts the song perfectly, with spot on vocals and production.
It’s unmistakably a Richard Yot song, it’s awash with atmosphere without compromising clarity.
A collaboration with the talented Mr JanKun.
Music by Meester Smeeeth + JanKun | Guitar, lyrics, vocals by JanKun.
Lyrics:
In the end I get what I want
You can beg
You can kneel
You can try to stop me if you will
This is where you really belong
Wallowing in the mud
With your own kind
Feeding from the dung
Now learn to swim
I get what I want
I get what I need
I get what I want
No matter if you bleed
In the end I get what I want
You may starve
You may freeze
You can try to change this come on ! please !
This is where you really belong
Here's the ditch where you really belong
Here's the shithole where you belong
In the end I get what I want
You may die
You may live
You can try to stop us if you will
This is where you really belong
Wallowing in the mud
With your fucking kind
Feeding from the dung
Now learn to swim
This is a music track that I improvised on two MIDI keyboards connected to Bitwig Studio on a desktop PC. There the MIDI was routed to Solo for the oboe, French horn, flute, and cello; Noire for the piano; and Omnisphere for the background instruments.
After bringing the audio recording into Vegas Pro, I applied the Lurssen Mastering Console plug-in to the audio mix.
It's titled City Lights.
Gentle and soothing. The distortion fx add some additional colours to the palette. Almost an antidote for the track I posted :-)
Nice one!. Love the guitar sound. Very Interesting how you end the vocal melody in the chorus, the note at the end.
It seems like the voice is lower in volume, more embedded with the rest of the rest of the instruments, than in previous recordings. I like it a lot better like this!
Thanks! I was using dynamic EQ with sidechain to mix the voice and guitar together, but now the latest Logic update has broken this workflow until further notice. 😅
That’s rubbish! Is sidechaining still working with the stock plugins?
Yes it still works with native plugins, but not with any third-party ones, and all older projects that used side-chaining are broken.😬
Has anybody got a sweepstake going to see how long it takes Apple to fix it?!
It's EDM, but for the Apocalypse. Love that dark atmosphere, and the bass is truly filthy, as are the screaming guitars. Great vocal as well.
Thanks. I always take ‘filthy’ as a huge compliment!
Jankun’s vocals and guitar, as usual, elevated what I’d done into another level.
"Filthy" is indeed intended as a compliment!
Great listen. I think you have a great rock voice, and I wouldn’t hate it if it was more to the foreground in the mix. Great guitar as always.
Pretty cool. I like the progression and instrumentation. Sounds very pro! Now I want a movie to play this in the closing credits!
Excellent. Very contemplative. Also sounds crystal clear.
I wrote this with a guitar part but I removed it for the sake of the electronics
(Point was the make an ploymetric counterpoint to the percussion of the piano which really is the percussive element )
Wild track - I like the industrial mix with like slide , and cool vocals. Well done
I liked the solo a lot, and then the post musical interlude. Crunchy tone, and the ambient wind synth layer is great . Great singing
Nice soothing piano, made me chill out and I love the video man . Your songs always relax me and I like this simple arrangement
Good to see you back sharing content
There are some really interesting things going on in this. The background drums anchor it in a way that makes the arrangement flow and allow the wildness above them space to glitch.
I’d maybe have dialled down the fx a tiny bit during the first half or so of the track to avoid them competing to be the main event which would also allow the bitcrushing at the end to be more of a surprise focal point to end the track.
Great sound and production as usual. What stands out to me on this track is the general structure and harmony with Lots of interesting things going on. I like how it gradually progresses from a pure minor coloration on the verse (Am Em) then becomes ambiguous on the pre chorus. There, I guess you play a D and F, but in the harmonic context, at least to my ears, the F chord sounds pretty much like a Dmin, hence the tonal ambiguity suggesting modal interchange. This specific chord almost acts like a pivot point to move towards the major coloration of the chorus (A G D E A). Then move back to the Am Em. So basically what I like on this track is how you use (or suggest in the case of the D) Modal Interchange on both A and D to either move to minor or major. Very efficient ! Like you, I tend to do that kind of thing instinctively when composing, but analysing afterwards helps me understanding myself better as composer.
Another notable fact worth mentioning is that you have a clear bridge on this track (which is rare on your tracks) before the last chorus that is derivated from the verse. Anyway great track!
Wow! Very cool guitar sounds. Is it you playing your 8 strings super strat 😜?
This is one for the times when the city seems to welcome you with opened arms, offering you a warm and comforting bed for all your life's dreams, hopes and aspirations. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing.
9 strings. And yes, all me.
I played all three parts simultaneously with all four hands.
Great to see you back here.
you got yourself a really great riff in 15/4 here. I am sure it must be lots of fun to add all this FX madness with your hardware of choice, but in terms of narrative, I guess it is coming a bit too early for my taste. Before that, you could take advantage of the unusual time signature to build a complex polymeter beat. For now it seems your beats work in 4 (if I am not mistaken). With such a nice riff, I would keep for exemple the kick in 4, and gradually introduce more polymeter madness with other kits elements with the simple idea that 15 is also 3x5 😉. I like what is happening after 2:30 and I think all the FX madness might be better after that as a grande finale.
Anyway, again, nice to see you here, Chris.
You got rid of the fifth one?
It's amazing what they can do with plastic surgery these days.
Joking aside, the collaboration was a lot of fun as always. I hope we can do many more.
I understand but what a waste. You could have used it to play a second neck on your super strat or who knows, maybe even play some tablas on the side.
Don't forget that we have an EDM EP to release before that (I'm not joking actually)
Word travels fast, did you guys hear about my new 8 string - it didn’t even arrive yet!!
I passed on the H/09 - I thought going that low was just beyond Logic [Pro] lol….
Nice color
Thx dude (chameleon purple/red)
haha , no, I didn't even know 8 strings where an actual thing, I struggle with 6 strings
Looks pretty cool. You should make more music with guitars!
