FAC Polyflo

Something new from @FredAntonCorvest
Polyflo seems to be a midi/cv modulation app for external gear:

  • I'm in. Fred tends to get my money.

I've been hellishly uninspired since picking up an Expert Sleepers ES-8 for my eurorack, but this reminds me that I need to get around to using it as a CV source. What other apps are people using for this purpose?

    Use it with Mirack, insta-win.

  • Can someone give me a tl;dr on exactly what this is doing?

  • It's many LFOs.

  • edited October 2025

I read the store description first, figured the FLO system was combining audio signals similar to apps like Arguments. After watching that video, it seemed like FLO combines two modulation/lfo signals? Maybe like cross modulation? Now I just don’t know haha. Bet it’s wild tho!

  • edited October 2025

It's two lfos that can cross modulate among other things. The FLOs use various math functions to further modulate said lfos which goes much deeper than most lfos available. Use said lfos to modulate your apps, or send cv/midi out to hardware. I'm into it.

  • Pre-ordered - do we know when this is likely to arrive?

When you pre-order it always says when it's expected, right below the order button 😁

    Thanks @Gavinski !

  • Looking forward to hearing some examples on this one from users.

  • So, if you don’t have external equipment, is this essentially the same sort of thing as LFOH, mLFO, lfoch etc.? It provides LFOs which can be assigned to modulate parameters in other apps? @FredAntonCorvest?

I think so, it’s a collection of LFOs and splines that output MIDI CC. It does have a cool math function section for combining inputs, it seems. So in that sense I’d compare it to Drambo or MiRack, something capable of more complexity and variation. And of course it’s FAC so the quality and UX is best in class.

That said as a committed Drambo fiend I don’t see myself picking this up. I also don’t have any hardware to drive. I think this would be great for someone who wants the modulation power of modular without having to wire up modules.

My only hardware instrument is a 0-Coast, I frequently use Drambo as an extra modulation source through my MOTU interface. I use the wavetable LFO, just a regular LFO modulated by another one or just a CV sequencer.

For modulation of external gear via CV you’d also need an interface with dc-coupled outputs.

  • I'm a sucker for complicated LFOs (and for FAC apps), so this was an insta-buy for me. Can't wait to play with it!

  • I'm a little clueless for midi and completely so for cv. With midi I imagine the output would be a little steppy for slow lfo's? Does CV output provide a smoother interpolation of the lfo's?

Definitely interested in this as I love all FAC apps

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CV/gate

CV is basically analog MIDI. It’s a standard way to control hardware synthesizers, especially modular/euro rack stuff. Yes, it is smoother than MIDI because it is continuous electrical current rather than data. But that doesn’t help you control soft synths or anything else on your iPad.

So ya, MIDI CC is limited to 0-127. Whether or not that’s a little steppy depends on what is being modulated and how it reacts to that signal. You may be modulating something that has its own interpolation curve.

Another option for smooth LFOs is to use a host that has LFOs built in. ApeMatrix and Drambo are two that I know of.

Now I’m just speculating, but CV is technically indistinguishable from an audio signal. In theory, you could use the CV output with anything than can modulate from an audio signal, which means it could be used as an envelope follower too.

  • Looking forward to this one!

  • Thanks @timfromtheborder! Yeah that's about what I was thinking. I have a friend who is mostly modular, loves lfo stuff, but doesn't have an iPad.... I keep an eye out for apps to draw him over to the dark side (lol...iPad as the "darkside" in a vs modular rabbithole scenario). He's a definite cv candidate. :)

  • One day of presale price left, still no usecase demo vids. Do I need it? Is it for me?!? HNNNG!

Forgetting the CV aspect entirely, and just focusing on midi:

Do you love midi? Do you like the idea of very tweakable modulation where lfos can interact with each other and with incoming midi notes, pitches and other modulation sources in interesting ways? Do you like tinkering with your apps and being prepared to put in a bit of effort to set up something interesting, rather than relying on ready made solutions? If the answer to these Qs is yes, then you'll probably find this app interesting.

You sold me don’t have any modular hardware but enjoy setting up LFO and midi modulation.

I bought it yesterday evening after thinking about it for a couple of days. Then I got to wondering if I’d made a mistake and bought something I’m too dumb to figure out. But you’ve inspired me, Gav, as you always do —my answer to all your questions was a definite yes. I’m really looking forward to its release.

  • Anyone know what the iaps are all about?
