  • Just gave it a quick spin but this thing can sound raw! (I had some cracking sounds when using the the sliders, but it could be my CPU). Nasty! B)

  • Thanks for sharing. Here's a quick demo

  • Awesome thanks!

  • Sounds great! 😎✌🏼

    Can confirm

  • I’ll make an official feature request for the ability to scan gorillas for presets.

  • Am I missing something or do you have to put the iPad into portrait mode to edit the patch?
Or is there another way to do it, while keeping it in landscape mode?

That’s what it seems in standalone, in auv3 you can click on the icon with the arrow right top. Weird.

  • On iPhone is there a way to access the other parameters when in portrait mode? I feel like I’m missing something obvious

Ah. I played with this briefly last night and thought it must be a preset player with a nice EQ!

Off for a play in portrait :D

There may be a (hidden) scroll bar along the right-hand edge. Could you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

  • The octave naming seems to be offset. Playing MIDI note 69, A on the treble clef, 440 Hz, sounds 220 Hz. Osc 1 only, 8 ft setting, no sub.

  • Master slider at the bottom does not work properly .

  • In auv3 when you save your track (Drambo), it does not remember the settings for this synth, you will have to make a preset first and load it manually each time you load your track. Annoying.

  • Decent sounds, but virtually unusable on my iPhone(12), looks better on the iPad 9, but kinda wonky UI in standalone, a little better as a plugin but zero parameters exposed for MIDI. I guess the price is right. I’d love to see it polished.

  • This is nice for a free monosynth. Buzzy and raw

  • For free I’m glad to work around its limitations. I would pay for it with some of the aforementioned issues fixed.

  • Hello! I’m Steffen Mølgaard Larsen — also known as FERAL-AUD.IO

First of all: this is honestly surreal.
This is my first public iOS app release, and without any marketing, seeing GORILLA being shared here, on blogs, and on social media has been overwhelming in the best way.

Thank you to everyone who downloaded it, tested it, and took the time to give feedback - it genuinely means a lot.

GORILLA started as a personal project. I come from a hardware background and wanted a lightweight, mobile synth that didn’t compromise on low-end. In building it, I’ve learned very quickly that AUv3 and iPad workflows have their own expectations and conventions - and your comments have made it clear where the rough edges are.

The good news is: Christmas is coming up, which gives me time to sit down and polish.
Many of the issues mentioned (UI clarity, AUv3 state recall, MIDI exposure, octave offsets, master slider behavior) are now on my backlog - Thank you for pointing them out.

Regarding older devices like iPhone 12: xcode for iOS development does not have the option to test on older devices, which makes optimization more challenging. That said, I've noted the feedback, and i will keep device support in mind as i continue development.

For now, GORILLA is free because:

    • I want real users
    • I want testers
    • I want sound designers to help shape it

If you’d like to contribute presets:
Save → More → Generate QR Code
(This is also where you’ll find Scan QR)

Great presets may be included in a future update, with full credit (and links if you want).

Once the app is more polished, I’ll likely move it to a small symbolic price to help cover the Apple Developer Program, but right now, feedback matters more than revenue.

Also: huge thanks to eylvy for the demo video. I hope you don’t mind if I embed it on the website.

    The app is now validated.
Next step: refinement, fixes, and spending Christmas quality time with my kids.

Thanks again for the warm welcome and honest feedback ❤️

Congrats on the release. The design really caught my eye, and after a quick play earlier, I like how it sounds.

I’ve only tried on iPhone so far and couldn’t see how to get to the other sliders and knobs. Perhaps it’s by design, but I think it’d be good if you can do everything the you can do on the iPad version, on iPhone.

  • It’s by design - I found the phone tool small for editing synth presets, and used the phone for playing presets and iPad for creating them. Turns out I am the edge case. I will make enable the full experience on both iPad and iPhone… somehow…

  • That’s kind of a great idea having a QR code for presets.

    Brilliant. Thanks for listening.

I wonder if a simple vertical or horizontal scroll through the panels would suffice?

  • Welcome @FERALAUDIO ! Nice to meet you. How on earth is this beast of a synth free!? Christmas came a few days early, or this is a Hanukkah gift. Either way, I'm excited to dig into this synth more.

As an iPhone and iPad producer, I look forward to editing presets on iPhone if you can make it work somehow. However, the presets themselves are great. 😊

  • Great to have you hear, this is a great sounding synth for quickly setting up sounds. It can only get better from this point! 👍

  • Since you've made your app for free @FERALAUDIO, consider adding an in-app purchase for "tips" from customers, or maybe even monetizing preset collections for download. It seems to be a hit so far.

  • Really nice. UI not perfect, but sounds great and was FREE! Top marks.

  • Messed with it on my pad last night. Very nice sounds!

I would rather opt for community presets, since monetizing preset collections would put me in the preset-business rather than app development. I will give it a small price tag for a polished v1.1 in 2026.

Thanks man! Feel free to leave a review on the app store!

Alright - I have enough for a v1.1 roadmap, and i will start polishing tonight.

If anyone has any presets they want to share - please do so here (Lets test out the QR share/scan capability) and they could become a part of the v1.1 release

    Happy Holidays everyone!
