Ok so actually you do need to download a separate GB of samples into Gadget if you wanna unlock the 5 new Gadgets. Not a big deal if you're ona bigger ipad I guess, but I thought the iOS 8 req had something to do with not needing double sample sets?

Edit: Ok scratch the above. So after choosing to install the 5 new Gadgets, on the same screen that says ~1gb is needed bla bla, it opens Module and does some install process, then jumps back to Gadget and all is at it should. But looking on the app size, Gadget was still at the old regular size, and module still at the same 1.2gb. So perhaps they are using the same sample pool after all then...

Edit: Expansions bought inside Module shows up in the appropriate gadget in Gadget. Very nice, I like!

  • So how's the bloody sound? :)

  • edited November 2014

They sound really nice, excep the "multi" module which is...I don't even know why it's in there, 30 super cheap & cheesy sounds. The rest is excellent! Great stuff. Lovin the 2GB Ivory expansion, even tho it's a very slimmed down version of the desktop package, it sounds very nice, really expressive piano.

Both IAP expansions bought in Module shows up in Gadget as well as all their presets, and it's pretty neat having access to a high quality piano like this in Gadget. But Gadget doesn't have any velocity thing going on on the keys, hopefully Korg can just implement a similar solution as in Module (higher up on the keys = lower velocity).

  • What effects are available?

  • @ChrisG hopefully Korg can just implement a similar solution as in Module (higher up on the keys = lower velocity).

Agreed. The only real purpose for The Module (for me) would be to access these sounds in Gadget. As a stand alone (and as I'm not a concert pianist), IGrand etc etc are probably already enough. So (if Mister Korg is listening) the ability to add the expressiveness within gadget is what would motivate me to fork out the fairly sizable cash etc.

  • How's the included piano compared to ivory?

The Ambience FX unit have Room/Chamber/Hall with 2 adjustable parameters, and a bunch of different delays. The modulation FX unit have some of their regular stuff, plus Polysix Phaser, Polysix Chorus, Polysix Ensemble, small phaser, orange phaser, EP chorus (these are available in Gadget as well in the new gadgets). Maybe something else I missed...

Cool, so you can destroy the sounds with the "normal" Korg effects.

    Those prices though...

Size too... Not a good fit for my 16 GB Air.

What a bummer that the "new" effects are not implemented in all the other multi fx-equipped gadgets.

Question: Does "Multi" includes Solina-like string machine sounds?

  • I'm sure folks will chime in, but I found myself not paying attention for JUST ONE DAMN SECOND and bought The Module. Two things:

    A) The keyboard(s) on screen are ridiculous fiddly/small. No wonder they push hard in the app description for using an outboard. Must be a reason, can't imagine what it is. If it wasn't somehow directly technical then someone in marketing needs taking out behind the barn.

    B) I am not a piano player, but I'm more of a piano player than a guitarist. I use keyboards, mostly, to input sound. Playing beautiful keyboard sounds (and they are) WITHIN Gadget is a game changer, for me. Suddenly completely opened up what is already a one workflow station.

But I'm happier than ever that my Microkey fits in the messenger bag.

  • @JohnnyGoodyear I know you can use it with Gadget, but does it support AB and IAA for other DAWs and effects?

This. I don't either understand why they didn't add at least a keyboard overlay/popup, like in iPolysix, with bigger keys. That, and velocity touch on the keys in Gadget would be great to have.

I did a restore in Gadget, to check if it downloaded newer versions of Bilbao and Abu (the update mentioned something about glitches and the new restore thing). But I guess Korgs servers are getting slammed pretty hard. It took 5 min for anything to happen. Once it said it had restored, I pressed on Bilbao, which needed to be restored and downloaded all over again. And kinda stuck on that now. It better not have erased my kits in there. :/

Edit: Mmkay didn't delete anything. The clicks Bilbao introduces on the kits I've made are still there. :/

Seems like it's only a generator but with transport controls so not just the Audiobus IAA. I love the new sounds and the Wurley for free was a nice surprise.

  • It's been a painful experience downloaded Module this morning a hour in and my iPad 3 latest iOS still keeps rebooting itself halfway through the install process. I managed to get module on with 5.3gb spare space after install. Downloaded the Gadget update that then went into the install of module into Gadget now my iPad has rebooted again! Just doesn't like large amounts of data being moved around. Not sure if it's a processor issue or RAM. Probably both time to get a upgrade to a Air 2 I think trying to hold out to see if the iPad Pro will make light of day.

  • They should give everyone in Glasgow the Ivory for free as well. The Glasgow/Multi gadget is so bad it might just tarnish the name Glasgow forever. :(:(:(:(

  • @jumpercollins You have more ram in your iPad 3 then I have available in my Air. But iPad 3 have seen lots of weird issues when it comes to music apps for some reason. Dunno what is different about it except more ram, upgraded GPU and higher resolution, compared to iPad 2 (which have the same CPU). Seems Air 2 is another pad just acting weird as well, going by people who's done side by side comparisons with Air 1 etc. On that one it could just be software related of course, but who knows

  • Hi Chris, in a world of pain here with what Korg has done here with Gadget/Module integration. I had to do a fresh install of Gadget after my ipad rebooted trying to build the module library. Now with the fresh install of gadget on the new modules are showing up in Gadget but as soon as you touch a music key the Gadget crashing indicating the sample is not there and I am not being given the option to reconnect the switch over to Module to reinstall! I can't go back to the previous version of Gadget so may have to start from scratch again and take off Module aswell to get all this working, turning into a nightmare ipad 3 owners who have regular crashes beware.

Ouch :( . Well, if nothing else a fresh delete/reinstall (and get rid of anything other unnecessary if your on a 16gb) should rly fix it. Hopefully. Perhaps.

Edit: Installing from iTunes, if you can, will remove all the shuffling around big files it has to do when downloading directly from the store.

  • So glad I purchased a 128GB Air 2 last month ;-)

  • I've made some space by removing Jordantron, Alchemy, and future music will put them back on later got 11GB free. Taken Module back off. Now reinstalling Gadget first them Module hopefully that's the right way round then try doing this library link again. Must be a first that 2 apps share samples like this I wish Korg had made it easier when installs go wrong.

  • Just finished the demo, now doing all the bits to get it live, probably a couple of hours tops, I love Korg, like all their stuff

  • Thats great Doug, looking forward to your demo even though I've already purchased the lot ;-)

  • My experience/opinion was as follows, on Ipad Air 1.

I downloaded Module, and had a problem with running it in Gadget.
As soon as I tried to run any of the Modules from within Gadget, It instantly crashed to "desktop"
Anyway, after two Re-installs, and Ipad resets, I finally got it to work. I had a problem with the "restore purchases" screen being greyed out for some reason, but it worked in a fashion.

My overall feeling is one of disappointment, I think that the modules are too "keyboardist" orientated, with fairly weak sounds. The organ, for example, is not a patch on the likes of Galileo.
The multi-synth thing is a waste of time/Ipad space, as similar sounds can be created with the original gadgets. The Ivory piano addon looks nice, but no room to install it! as other not-so-good piano, is taking up all the space.
The best thing Korg could incorporate into Gadget, would be a kind of mini Audiobus, so that other Korg synths could be used directly from the app, plus, also why still no direct sampling.
With a proper sampler, this app would beat anything.

Anyway, just my opinion. (Rant over)

  • I think Korg would better have polished Gadget. Maybe with a improved Marseille which has better effects and in-app-purchase for high quality multisamples.

I do not understand the duality with Module and Gadget anyway. Everything you can do with Korg Module, you can still do with Gadget - apart from the PDF viewer for sheet music and lyrics.

Since this morning I seriously wonder why I do not spend more time with Caustic. Caustic has already all included I wish for Gadget. And it runs on iPhone.

  • IPad 4 and no problems installing or linking to Gadget and all seems to be working inside Gadget too
