  • Thanks for sharing @StormJH1. I haven't taken it back out since the upgrade, so I have that on the agenda for today.

How do you like the AL-2000? I have one too and I love it, but it's been gathering dust lately. I got it signed by Steve Hackett and Steve Rothery and want to overcoat it before I smudge the signatures.

  • @JohnnyGoodyear - You are welcome. Actually, your comment about it sounding contained reminded me of two MAJOR things I noticed but completely forgot to mention.

    (1) There is an option in settings called "Sound for Mix" or something like that. Agile AmpKit+ has a similar thing. Basically, flipping it on (I think) adds a bass boost that makes it more appealing for solo playing, whereas the opposite setting has a bit more of an open sound for use in a mix. It also seemed louder with this option turned on, as well. Can make a big difference.

    (2) Arguably even more than the preamps, the Cabinet settings in AmpONE are extremely influential. There are two options and they are very different. The second one sounds muffled, almost scooped, while the first one is more punchy and midsy. But then even within those, you can adjust mic position and then diffusion and another setting. It's probably the most control you have over cabinets in any of the guitar apps. And if you, like me, don't particularly know what you are doing with it, it is extremely easy to mess up the resulting tone.

I played around with it quite a bit and came up with the "Vox" tone that I rather liked. But that's just my preference. If you wanted to give it more presence, or to put a different spin on it, there's a good chance a tweak of the cabinet settings will do that. The JCM800 one, I believe was a factory preset that I thought was passable "as is".

@funjunkie27 - I love my Agile AL-2000. My "best" guitar is a Gibson '99 Smart Wood - basically a Les Paul style but thinner and with a different feel. I wanted a full-body Les Paul type of guitar, but I don't have $1,500 for a LP Standard, and I'm not a touring musician, just a dude with a job who likes this stuff when I have time. And the Epiphone LP's are generally nice, but didn't "wow" me. Luckily, I found a used AL-2000 at Guitar Center, ran out to find that it was in literally perfect condition, and snatched it for $199. Unbelievable deal - the thing is 10 pounds of meaty set-neck guitar, extremely playable, and stays in tune without any real modifications to it. I thought I would just rip the pickups out, as they are are probably OEM ceramics, but ceramics aren't always bad for humbuckers, and I've continued to like them.

Agile makes a 3000 line, which is better - Alnico pickups, TUSQ nut and other improvements. But I struggle with ordering online for a number of reasons, and I had an opportunity to try an actual 2000 out that I could buy, so it worked out for me. The 3000, which is still less than $300, I believe, is an excellent Les Paul equivalent at 1/5 of the price. And if you like switching pickups and wiring, it's a great modding platform. I consider it my "Les Paul" in everything but name.

  • I'd love to try the 3000, but I need to work out the pitch to my wife still. My 2000 is stock, and I've been happy enough with that. I paid $250 for it new. I got it from Rondo music along with a $99 tele knockoff, which sounds and plays great.

Yeah! The Tele knockoff caught my attention as well. I've heard mostly good things, at least for the price.

I've had guitarists that are much more knowledgeable than I who were very impressed with it. One, who refurbs and flips them on e-Bay bought one for himself. I'm trying to find the one I have. I'll post a link when I do.

    Please do.....

  • I've been looking for it all over the place, but I can't find it. Its an SX Vintage series. They had strat and tele knockoffs, and I can find the strats but not the teles. You might have some luck on eBay. The SX Furrians might be the successor, but I haven't heard anything on those yet.

Here is a saveral samples where I used Amp ONE for mixing within Auria.

    Engl e530 ('Lead Lo' channel).

    JCM800 ('Original' channel)

In both cases I also used PSP Echo and Pro-Q.

  • I just got this app. I can't get that noise gate to work. I turn it on, no signal gets through at all. I mess with all the sliders and can see the signal going over the threshold but no sound comes out. I haven't rebooted the iPad yet so that might help. Not sure.

    Thanks,
    Shawn

  • Looking forward to hearing what you do with it Flo.

  • Definitely!

  • Bring it on! :) I like Amp ONE a lot. Here is a track I´m made a while ago. Main riff played through Amp ONE, BIAS for solo/clean. :)

  • Thanks Flo.

    Nice sound @tonappas!

  • Got this today and so far I have to say, I'm a little disappointed. Could be that I am not getting it intuitively but everything sound kinda dull and bassy or muffled. I'm used to knobs so maybe I'm not understanding the picture. I couldn't get anything that sounded like a clean glassy sort of amp sound I like. I play a tele into an I track doc. I had been using amplitube and not really caring for it either. I bought Bias for my iPhone and really kinda liked that but am disappointed that it is not universal so I haven't repurchased it for the iPad. Amplitube seems kinda harsh sounding to me and I was really hoping this would be the one. The interface, while probably saving on processor power, doesn't lend itself to my intuition so well, could be a personal problem though. I'd be interested in hearing about some of the settings or presets you guys have come up with. Couldn't find anything that sounded remotely close to the tone Flo is getting on his recent tune. That one sounds great!!!
I'll play around with it some more I guess.

  • @Johow Amp One is more for high-gain sounds IMO. If you want clean and glassy then I would go for BIAS or Flying Haggis, or Tonestack, which are great amp sims IMO. Amplitube doesn't cut it.

  • Just picked tone stack on sale thinking everyone has been raving about it. It sounds great but it doesn't seem to work at all with Auria. I tried IAA and AB. It opens using IAA but no sound at all. And it fails with an error message every time I try AB. IOS seems to promise a lot but delivery can be very frustrating.

  • Check a setting about muting it On speaker. Something like that; I haven't used it in a while but I remember that. If you search on this board you should find it.

  • Tonestack should definitely work into Auria via both Audiobus and IAA, I use it all the time. Audiobus is lighter on the CPU, but both should work OK. One thing to look out for if you are using it with IAA is to make sure that "record effects" is enabled in Auria, you do this by pressing and holding the record enable button on the channel.

  • I've tried pretty much everything you guys have suggested but no go. The strange thing is, I've been able to bounce a previously recorded track thru tonestack and record that but unable to record a fresh track with my guitar. I've been using an itrack doc but tomorrow I'm going to try my apogee Jam to see if maybe it doesn't like my interface. I can open up and play tonestack just fine as a standalone though, very puzzling and frustrating....

  • Have you tried the input matrix in Auria?

  • Getting back to AmpONE, I had a bunch of earlier comments/reviews from February. The gist of that is that it grew on me a lot after they updated some things and once I figured out that the microphone/cabinet position affects things dramatically in AmpONE. Settings that you think are "thin" or "muffled" become completely the opposite after you tweak those settings.

At the end of the day, it's not one of my favorite amp modelers, but I do consider it $10 well enough spent. It takes up virtually no storage space, and if I had a faster iPad, I could probably crank up the audio quality and enjoy it more. There ARE good clean and hi gain tones in there, with stuff in between, it can just be a bit of a chore to find them. I applaud it for taking a different route to amp modeling than some of the other established apps.

  • Here fine clip about Amp ONE from my friend:
