Delays with tempo tap
Hi! I'm in search of a delay FX with tempo tap control over the delay rate. It's important that the delay rate—set by tempo tap—isn't necessarily synced to the master MIDI transport tempo.
I'm hoping to find the right AUv3 for the task in time for an upcoming live performance this weekend. This will be my first time performing live in many years! I'll be using my iPad + some esoteric analog electronic devices. The analog gear doesn't support MIDI, so for this performance I'm looking for a way of quickly syncing tempos by ear in real time. This is easier for me to do with a tempo-tap interface than by turning knobs and sliders to set the rate.
The only delay I already own that includes this tempo tap feature is
Crystals multi-FX processor by Eventide. It's a great FX and I could use it in my performance, but I'm curious what else is out there.
Based on some searching in this forum, I believe Kajita from iceWorks has tempo tap, as does Tap Delay by Harry Gohs/Virsyn. I also found a drambo patch by @rs2000 that could works.
Thanks for suggestions!

I wanted to check Virsyn tap delay because I don’t remember the tap tempo function. It won’t load on my devices (iPadOS 18, iOS 26).
Keep in mind that many delays do that tape slow down / speed up sound thing. If you don't want that happening during your tapping, you'll have to find an app that doesn't do that or you'll have to stop sound going in or out the app while adjusting.
@aaa - did you want to tap in a tempo with quarter notes, or is it OK to tap in the speed of the repeats?
AU3FX: Dub has a tap function, but you're tapping in the duration of the repeats, not a typical tempo tap like you would when setting a host tempo by tapping in quarter notes.
Thanks Wim! That's even better for me since I'm doing an experimental set with a healthy dose of polyrhythms/polymeters and rhythmic phasing.
BTW I believe Eventide's Ultratap Delay also appears to have tempo tap.
Between Ultratap and AUFX:Dub, do you know if either of those have minimal warble when shifting tempos, ie. less of that tape wobble pitchiness?
Really appreciate your help!
I don’t have Ultratap, but I can say AU3FX:Dub is free of the tape effect. Yes, you do get some collision of the existing delays with the new ones and a slight flagging sound, but that’s unavoidable and is very brief.
Also a good tap delay if you're into experimental stuff:
