  • Scaler 3 on desktop is much more ergonomic than Scaler 2 in addition to adding a bunch of new features. I hope the ergonomic part translates to the iPad version.

  • I wish Scaler 3 would export audio stems and not the whole composition.

The history of Scaler 2 on iPad has made me wary. But now that I've watched some of the videos for Scaler 3, I'm interested.

    Why “wary”?

    Why “wary”?

It’s nothing that hasn’t already been mentioned on the previous page.

    Why “wary”?

Because when the first product you use isn't treated with care or respect from its developers you suspect the next one will follow the trend..

What is the history of Scaler 2 that’s worry some ?

  • Scaler 3 is OUT!

    Thanks

  • Is there some upgrade path from Scaler 2? I mean, the price is definitely honest anyway.

Unless they do a bundle later that may be a discount. To be honest the price is a steal.

On the Scaler 3 desktop version I can run it inside my DAW and route each track inside Scaler to a separate DAW midi track. Not sure if this is possible on the iPad version or not.

Yes it’s possible same method as desktop
basically in Arrange mode choose daw name and midi channel number for each selected track. I tend to load Scaler for example in Cubasis 3 as a header instrument and put my bass , piano , synth tracks under the header, then just select Scaler 3 as their midi source and change the midi ch number to match what’s been set up in Scaler 3.

The other way is to build a composition in Scaler 3 first and just export the midi out.

  • Do people find Scaler is useful if you’re not interested in the generative aspects? For better or worse, I like to come up with my own chord progressions etc. so, after watching Leo’s excellent intro video, I’m wondering if there’s other functionality which would be useful to me?

  • Every time I open Scaler I’m still amazed at how good it teaches music theory efficiently. At first glance to a new audience it might seem like a cheat code, which I cannot deny but it is more than that. Scaler is teaching users music theory by applying it their song ideas. I find myself finding my way around a keyboard better since using Scaler!

    Anyone experiencing this?

    Very useful for you!
The articulations and phrasings it can produce from your chords would be useful 🔥
I’m sure you could create some automation that could take your generative music to another level 💥

I'm curious, what kind of automations?

I never took to Scaler 2, never ended up using it, I'm not sure how much interest I have in this new version

Thanks @Stuntman_mike. I think maybe you misread my post though? I’m not interested in the generative aspects, nor am I generally making generative music.

When I said ‘chord progressions etc.’, the ‘etc.’ was meant to imply that I like to write my own articulations and phrasings too. Does Scaler still have uses for a user such as myself?

  • Instabought. I’d normally wait for the bundle, but although I rarely use Scaler, when I need a kick-start it’s invaluable.

  • A "released " in then title would be helpful I think. I only understood it was because Leo posted a tutorial.

    Good question!
There are Scaler parameters accessible in hosts like AUM, such as Global Humanize, that could be automated by MIDI LFO plugins like:
    midiLFOs - https://apps.apple.com/app/id998273841
    mLFO - https://apps.apple.com/app/id1602306976

Oops! Yup, I misread. Yes, you would definitely find Scaler 3 useful if you make your own articulations and phrasings if you use Scaler as way to come up with alternate takes by playing your chords progressions, articulations, and phrasings into Scaler with the record button. You can basically use Scaler as a writing partner 🙏

  • Tried to get into Scaler 2, but it was a bit of a pain. However, after watching @sfm 's tutorial on Scaler 3 and suffering from sticker shock of a cheap $15 price tag, I'm getting Scaler 3 if, for nothing else, for Ambient works.

    Yeah, same here.

I just bought it to show support, but IMHO once you get to a certain level of understanding with music theory, and how chords, their extensions, and how chord progressions work, these type of apps can, and usually do get in the way.

Not to mention the added resources they need, and rob from a project. I’m curious to see how heavy (DSP-wise) this version is while using it as an auv3 inside the normal hosts that I typically use (Drambo and AUM).

Now using this standalone, and using it as THE host for instrument AUV3s might prove interesting, we’ll just have to see how it goes.

But yeah, for me personally, when I have something in my head, be it a melody, a chord progression, or even just a simple passage, I want to be able to sit down with a chromatic keyboard, and lay it down. Opening an app like this, which offers me all kinds of different things, different options, different chords, etc. All which can steer my idea into a completely different direction and before you know it, the original idea I had is gone.

Edit: now I was just seeing @Stuntman_mike ’s post about recording material into it; now this may actually prove useful, and might just change my mind. Again, we’ll see how it goes! 🤙 (disclaimer; I haven’t been keeping up with anything regarding the features or capabilities of Scaler 3, so I’m looking forward to being pleasantly surprised!)

  • Does it behave in Logic now? If so, that's a very good price and I'm in.

I'm curious to hear your informed opinion on it if you dive in Ed, especially as you were one of the few people to figure out Fugue Machine well when it first dropped🍻🍻🔥
