  • Thanks for the tips!

  • Mela 7.2 is here

    Unison Module

    • Optimised for stacking oscillators to create a classic unison effect.
    • Processes submodules in parallel, similar to Stack in Sum Audio mode, with built-in detune and stereo spread.
    • Each submodule receives a differently detuned Pitch signal, and the outputs are spread across the stereo field before being summed.
    • Levels are automatically scaled to maintain consistent gain.
    • A more natural sound is achieved when oscillators use random start phases on note-on.
    • Detune: Sets the maximum detune depth in cents.
    • Stereo: Sets how widely voices are spread in the stereo field.
    • Unison is part of Collection 5 and listed under the Signal Router category.

    Other Changes

    • Nesting: The Group and Ungroup features have been generalised into Nest In and Unnest, extending support to container modules such as Stack, Effect, MIDI Group and Unison.
    • Mid-Side: The module now supports Poly mode and no longer collapses a Poly signal to Mono.
    • Slew: Allows Rise and Fall parameters to go as low as 0.01 ms.
    • Parameters: The Enter Value menu item now appears above the parameter presets.
    • Presets: Updated the default preset.
    • Strummer: Fixed edge cases that caused unexpected behaviour.
    • Note Length: Fixed a bug where the note length was not updated when adjusting the Time parameter.
    • Modules: Fixed a 7.1 regression that prevented intensity values from being duplicated when a modulator was duplicated.
  • Mela 7.3 Update: Reuse Presets as Modules, Note Pulse & Note Event Improvements

    Reusing Presets as Modules

    • Presets can now be reused as modules, making it easy to move structures between presets or build complex setups from existing designs.
    • This allows presets to act as reusable building blocks within larger signal chains.
    • Any module can be dragged out of Mela to export it as a standalone preset.
    • Dragging a preset from Finder or Files into Mela inserts it as a module.
    • Modules can also be dragged between Mela instances to insert a copy.
    • In all cases, the full nested structure, parameter values, and modulation routing are preserved.
    • Presets in the browser include a drag handle.
    • Drag a preset to Finder or Files to export it, or back into Mela to insert it as a module.
    • Presets or modules can also be dropped onto the User or custom preset groups to save them there.
    • When inserting a preset as a module, global parameters such as Ahead and polyphony settings are not imported.
    • Be mindful of Audio and MIDI bus usage, as imported presets may use the same buses as the current preset, which could lead to unexpected routing behaviour.

    Note Pulse & Note Event

    • It's now easier to turn Note Pulse and Note Event modules into step sequencers or note generators by modulating their Velocity parameters.
    • Note Pulse: When Velocity is set to 0, new pulses are not generated.
    • Note Event: Added a Vel 0 parameter with Skip and Off modes.
    • Skip prevents note-on generation at velocity 0, while Off also releases a held note.
    • The Event parameter has been renamed to Gate as it is more fitting.
    • Note Event: The On parameter has been added back. It is useful when note generation is triggered by modulation, allowing it to be turned off.

  • Why isn’t Mela on Patchstorage? Not necessarily asking the dev…

It just needs more votes: https://patchstorage.com/requests/mela-synth-audiofx-midi/

Also, I'm happy to host Mela preset packs, just email me: https://nikolozi.com/mela/artist-presets/

That is so cool with the preset reuse. I'm very impressed. Thank you.

I also voted for Patchstorage and hope more of us do as well: https://patchstorage.com/requests/mela-synth-audiofx-midi/

  • I just voted for it, mainly as I’d love some physical modelling presets to play with, not got my head round how to build them yet… there were some lovely sounding ones in development at some point I think

Learn how to transform Mod signals using Audio Processors in Mela

Mela doesn't yet include dedicated Mod Processor modules, but it's still easy to transform Mod signals using Audio Processors. For example, you can use a Clipper to reshape an LFO or a Degrader to give it a stepped, lo-fi character.
This video shows how to convert a Mod signal into audio by modulating a Rectifier's DC Offset, process it using Audio modules, and then convert it back with Audio-to-Mod to use as a modulation source.
