NS2 officially done
Nanostudio2 was removed from App Store today… the greatest!

Well calise de marde. 🤦♂️ That's sucky to find out. NS2 and I had a good run, but at least I'm well versed in several other apps. 🫠
Strictly speaking, it was officially done two (?) years ago
In any case, we all knew this day would come.
I've since migrated to Audio Evolution Mobile in anticipation. Still, I hope my iMazing backup will work when I need it.
Never gave it a proper go but it’s installed on an iPad mini 4 of mine. I guess as long as that’s safe I have access to NS2.
Such a beautiful app, so much love poured into it. Long live the memory of NS1 and 2. Support your independent devs. Afford them great respect.
Still there in my ‘Not on this iPad’ tab in the AppStore and it was still possible to re-download it too.
Quickly checked that too and felt a sense of relief.. I can’t recall if I saved an ipa file in iMazing yet or not.. reminder to self to do so.. soon..
I had NS2 installed on my iPad, but never really got into it until my computer died and had to send it for repair. Since I had nothing else, I decided to spend some time with NS2 and really learn it. Oh boy, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Now, I am not a novice when it comes to DAWs, I have tried and used pretty much all of them on the PC/Mac. But I was never as productive as those days with just my iPad, NS2, a few trusty AUV3s, and a small midi controller. The software is genius, for me nothing else comes close. The greatest indeed.
One of the greatest ever. If only it had got audio tracks.
Was intending to buy one of the new base iPads next week, that I would never update, and devote it to NS2 etc. Ah damn! Maybe someone will buy it off Matt.
Fortunately, I was prepared for this. 😭
RIP, end of an era.
Hope Matt’s life is good and he is satisfied with his current job.. . I wish him all the best…
Don’t cry that someehing ended, be happy you had opportunity to experience it !
Also common guys, soon everybody of us will be able to create own DAW of dreams using AI :-🤣
Lord, I would not want to program a full DAW - especially with AI. That sounds like a headache all around.

Who knows, he might touch the code again one day.
Sampling to Slate pads worked well for me. Not the typical linear workflow but who cares when the vocals, guitar and bass are where they should be.
Vale
NS1 was my introduction to iOS music
Glad I found it recently and loaded it onto my iPad. Works well. Would hope it can be resurrected.
What’s made NS2 work so well for so many folks? I’ve got it and used it a few times when I was learning music production. Ironically it was a bit overwhelming since I wasn’t familiar with DAWs or MIDI beyond surface level GarageBand at the time. After DAW hopping a bit I’ve wrapped my head around some core concepts much better. My focus on guitar recording and lack of audio tracks didn’t push me to learn it much before my first tries.
For me: It’s the workflow mostly. Midi editing and arranging is best on iOS. Also I’ve never had a single crash or weird thing happen running it. The built in synth is top notch, as are the fx. Also very light on resources. I can load the same set of auv3 synths & fx I have in a nS2 project inside AUM or Cubasis and it seems to take 5-10% more cpu hit (could just be the meters though).
The midi editing is the best I’ve encountered. The only other that sort of comes close is Korg, but even then is a distant second.
By comparison, trying to edit midi in, say, Cubasis is an exercise in frustration.
Great onscreen midi editing. Flexible, cpu-efficient and great-sounding synth. Great synt preset management/database. Tempo maps.
Same. Used to compose tracks on my iPhone on the train to work. Very easy to use.
Found an early photo of a Sunday morning jam.
Ha! I still have my first-gen Oxygen 8. The usb gave out years ago and the wheels and knobs are erratic af so I filter out all midi control messages in all my PC and iPad daws. I should probably just get a new controller lol
Your keys are not as yellow as AudioPilz keys
Son of a gun.. I just upgraded my iPad pro to the latest 13” and downloaded Nanostudio 2 over the weekend. Yikes.
Sad times. I saw this coming a few years back, but it still hits hard. NS1 was the first iOS workstation that I found to be serious so I took it and ran with it.
A PSA I've repeated once or twice: NanoStudio 1 is also amazing and the desktop version, Mac and Win, are both still available on the dev's website: https://www.blipinteractive.co.uk/nanostudio1/
If you do have nanostudio 1 on a device (I have an old ipad 2 loaded with it) and want to move your files back and forth between mobile and desktop, grab NanoSync too! I've used it like twice but it worked both times
I am pretty sure Florian intentionally bought that much yellow keys :-D
I still have one of those keyboards as well but the one I have is not class compliant so it's mostly collecting dust...
...I bought it way back for use with Reason 1.x and it came with an OMS driver...
I had previously tried other DAWs from Pro Tools to Sonar and always got bogged down, so for a long time I used just my SD-1’s sequencer. I was an early adopter of NS1 and loved it despite some of the limitations. NS2 was a dream come true for me. It is the most intuitive app that was the easiest to get a finished piece put together. The app isn’t in the way of me being creative and I will keep using it until my iPads/iPhones die.
For reals. We knew it was coming but still a bummer.
