  • I had 5 instances of Dark Park with 5 instances of NeonVerb running in AUM at around 38 percent DSP on an A16 iPad. Sounded pretty good! Am still trying out all the exposed parameters. There’s a lot of them! 😎✌🏼

  • I love it!

The criticism in this thread has been brutal and I decided to skip it. However, I skimmed a couple of the videos and kinda like the sounds I heard. It’s $4 now and looks to be reasonably tweakable. Didn’t watch all of any video yet, but does this only work with the in-app sounds, or can you effect your own sounds with it?

Reconsidering this one despite the Luke warm reception in this thread

*Edit: I see this is iPad/iPhone but the description sounds like it’ll run on macOS in Logic as well?

  • Never mind. I’m buying this. I like the sound overall. It’ll run in my iPhone and iPad, and it appears it’ll likely run on my m1 Mac mini in logic. Runs standalone too. I only skipped thru the videos as I’m not a fan of the long ad-lib vlogger videos, but I heard enough variety of sound to justify adding it.

    It’s only 40MB and $4

    Sold!

Hi there, thank you for your support! I'm glad you like how Dark Park sounds. Yes, although the app isn't specifically a Mac app, it runs on Mac. Once installed, it should automatically show as an instrument in Logic. I used Logic on desktop to make the music for the intro video, as the desktop version of Logic allows you to import footage to compose to. If you have any questions or bump into any problems, just send me an email via the link in the app and I'll get it sorted for you!

You're right about the criticism. Lord forgive me for working hard to bring an idea to life and contribute to the space we all know and love.

    I like it.

I got it on Mac and have just discovered I can’t run it on my iPad as it needs iPadOS 18.6, which I missed downloading.bi’m on an earlier version of 18.

I’m still trying to avoid version 26. Are you able to reduce the iPadOS requirement?

  • Holy crap. All the dunking on this app. 😬 Aside from not being able to run Dark Park on earlier instances of iOS (a legitimate criticism), I see nothing wrong with a nice $4 drone plugin.

And instead of just talking about it, I put my money where my mouth is and bought it. I'll have a go with Dark Park after I have a spot of supper and see what I can sample into Koala for a nice drone piece.

  • I've only played with it on iPhone so far. I like it. Interface is pretty small on iPhone but usable. Got enough variety that I'm glad I bought it so far. Will use this. Yes, there are droney packs that are cinematic, etc. but they usually cost more, have slightly less variety, and tend to eat up Gigs of space. This hits the spot, its currently only $4 on launch. Only takes up 40MB. It's already a win and keeper for me... that I will actually use and has almost no learning curve. And, that's just from my first impression on iPhone standalone.

I'm on iPhone 17pro Max and keep my iOS always at the latest. I'm happy with the purchase so far and haven't even tried it in AUM with additional effects, or the iPad Pro, or the desktop.

It's a keeper for me. Thanks to the dev for making this :)

  • Pairs well with Mononoke, and with CC output from Skulptur (or SQSL Strips).

  • Hi all, thank you again to those who've purchased Dark Park!

The next update will support earlier iOS versions and have a completely redesigned layout for standalone on iPhone.

For anybody interested, there are no samples in Dark Park. Everything is synthesis, which is how we're able to keep the size of the app right down :)

Excellent work! I've had a play with it, and while it's simple on the surface, it's definitely capable of some really strange and awesome sounds. A steal at only $4, and anyone who produces Ambient should really consider this.

  • Can you get to the midi parameters to see what controls what? I’m guessing they’re exposed in AUM. Just curious. This looks like it’d be great to control with many of the SQSL devs midi control apps.

The space you highlighted is decorative, taking inspiration from Kontakt instruments (giving the app a sense of familiarity for use on desktop). I was also careful to ensure that it wouldn't hinder use on ipad. I simply wanted the app to also look nice while using it. In an earlier version of the app, the streetlights in the image faded in and out in sync with the attack and release.

I appreciate the response. I don't mean to be critical, it's just that as someone who used to work in the UX space, I'm particular about interfaces and how they connect the designer's intentions to the end user. I totally get that for you, this app is something that takes up your screen and you want it to look inspiring. For my own workflow, I might want it to share the screen with an effect, a keyboard of some kind, etc. and have everything available for tweaking, so I place value on apps that are efficient with their design. And this is doubly true on the ipad or iphone where there's not a lot of real estate.

Having a big design area-wise makes sense if the app has a lot of functionality, like a full-fledged synth, but it's harder to justify when the available parameters would fit into a small space. But it sounds like you are well aware of this and you're working on something, so I'll leave it there. Peace!

  • I bought it. The interface is not the best one I have seen but the app sounds good to my ears. What it does it does really well. 4$ only. I spend more on coffee

That sounds good! Will it run on 17.7? (Then I’ll be able to use it on my iPad, and will definitely give it a shot again.)

Exactly, will it bring me more pleasure than a cappuccino and a croissant? In the long term YES! So it's good value for me :)

  • Maybe an optional lightsource?
I really can’t read the functions of the knobs
    It’s too dark. 🙂

I wanted a spacewalk type chord generator for iPhone. I should have just stuck w/StepBud and a myriad of drone presets that I have across 555 auv3 instruments.

The iPhone GUI is so offensive. I felt like I had been victimized when I tried to use it.

Remember how terrible the Gatelab app was when launched? It's way worse.

The gui is 20% of the screen real estate. Just awful. Had I paid more than 5 bucks- I'm sure this depressive haze that thou have cast upon me may never cease, a las.. I will push forward and forgive myself for being hopeful and greedy.

Perhaps if you'd have actually looked at the app rather than guessing, you would have known what you were buying and wouldn't have needed to rant about it afterwards, sparing yourself the emotional turmoil ;)

However, all feedback is valuable, no matter how distasteful. There's an update coming soon.

Hi mate, don't worry, I understand that you asked a genuine question :) I apologise if my response seemed a little direct, I was still a little confused by some of the ugly comments from others.

You and I are on the same page regarding workflow. I'm currently working on a better layout for iphone. May I ask, would you use it standalone or inside a host such as AUM on your phone?

Bro, you entered an impulse market with that pricing and you knew that. The app sucks for me- others like it. Chalk it up to a win. Jesus

I'm an impulse buyer too, but I still know what I'm impulsively buying. The pricing has nothing to do with that. I don't expect the app to be for everyone, or for everyone to like it. I've still taken your feedback on board, as it can be helpful for others.

    It sure will! :)

  • Another vote for a lighter UI. I like what I’m hearing, easy to get a lot of useable sounds. I just tried it within Ableton which works fine although it would be nice to have a scaleable window?

  • Please make it run on iOS 15 so I can use it on my old iPad

  • Please keep the UI as it is unless you are going to add more controls. Then arrange appropriately within the current theme. Just make the top row of text/icons bigger. IMHO

    😎✌🏼

Wow, it sure does! I mean, it looks like there’s a lot more exposed parameters than there are controls on the interface. I’ve got some experimenting and exploring to do!

Hey, first, thank you for creating this wonderful auv3! And also thank you for being receptive as a developer, and standing by your product. As you admit, this, like any other instrument, isn’t for everyone.

While there is obviously a tough crowd here, just know that you’ll never be able to please everyone. I hope you take any of the criticism as constructive, and use it as a tool to improve things of course, but at the same time, please don’t let anyone disuade you, or steal your vision for what YOU want it to be.

I happen to love the sounds it creates, myself! And shoot, for the price of a cup of coffee, it’s actually comical to see someone complain. I mean really? You should charge more for it honestly.

Anyway, keep up the good work (on the app, as well as taking feedback in stride 😉) and we’ll be looking forward to the updates you’ve got cooking!

  • I listened through the Jade Starr demo and love the slow, evolving pads and drones from this app.

Good to see that all the initial negativity in this thread is being balanced, knowing how important the first days of an app launch can be for a developer.

@lewisleval I hope you keep the launch price until earlier iOS versions have been supported. I'm on 17-something, the end of my device upgrade path.

  • Digging this on iPad too. Haven’t tried macOS yet. I like the vibe of the interface and it’d be cool if you went even further with the dark goth vibe… I’d like the flickering lights you said an earlier version had. I’m all for apps evolving for the better, but please don’t kneecap and hobble it just to accommodate legacy OS. It’s a very nice start as-is! Looking forward to its evolution!

    For me,$4 well spent! :)
