I stumbled upon this app, finally decent WebMidi support on iOS? It works perfectly for me so far!

    This looks definitely interesting. I just had a quick (have to work :( ) look at it. The fact that it pops up as virtual MIDI connections in AUM is promising.

    Some MIDI controllers have a WebMIDI interface for configuring settings. For example, BopPad and QuNexus

    And I would love to use Novation Components on my iPad. They sadly detect that it's an iOS device and refuse to even try to connect. I'll contact the devs of MIDIWeb if they can include a user agent switcher (if Apple allows it...).

    That's where the user agent switcher comes into play and for example reports "Chrome on Windows" instead of being identified as a Safari browser.

    It does, in my experience, as long as you’re on an iOS device. Were you accessing the link through an Android or other device maybe @tyslothrop1?

    The original URL with the "nl" country code should redirect to the App Store in the right country on an iOS device.

    I am usually able to download the midi directly from web apps, ie OneMotion chord player but when I tried to do it via the midi Web browser no go. Is this better for realtime midi? Not necessarily creating/generating a midi file and downloading it, is that correct?

    There are some fun web apps, as mentioned! This page lists some synths for example: https://synth.playtronica.com/
    And I have a Yamaha reface, there are some editors to edit patches (not perfect, but nice to have access to on iOS)

    Yes, as far as I know webmidi is about communication between the browser and midi in and out connections.

    Thanks @Jer4. I downloaded the app, routed midi in AUM to MidiWeb In, opened a few of the links inside the app, like some things in the ‘Web Synths Collection’, but no sound. I tried also using the keyboard inside the app itself, can’t get any sound. Volume button on top right seems on, I also toggled it a few times, but no joy, just no sound. Any idea why?

    I haven’t used it in a host (yet), so I’m not sure. Just playing the synths with my external midi keys works perfectly in the app. Also, the keyboard in the app (right top to pop it up) works for me (just tried the dx7 webapp). I will give it a try later today when I’m home!

    Thanks for your experiments @catherder! I found out some of the same things, the background audio problem is pretty sad… And I’m not sure if it would be possible to get audio from MidiWeb to a host as it’s not an AU or IAA…

    I did have some success by using loopy pro in split mode though. And found a nice customisable midi control pad to play around: https://midisurf.app/

    @Jer4 and @Gavinski I just mailed them. And I told them that many musicians use silent mode for good reasons.

    I just invited the developer Antony Nasce into this forum. He has created a user account @ant5of12 but is not able to post. Is there any restriction in place? I notice his user profile shows "Applicant" as status. Could anybody with admin/moderator rights please allow this user to become a full member and able to post?

    MIDIWeb started out as a passion project because a mate wanted to do some stuff with their OP-XY on an iPad. It's now grown into a "Why did we build a web browser, it's 2026?!". But it's hopefully useful and brings us joy, so do pester to me to fix things! :D I'm working on a bunch of fixes at the moment. Turns out the silent switch thing is NOT trivial for WebKit, but I think there's a way.. Background Audio/MIDI is going to be tricky, but we'll see what we can do. We'll have a TestFlight beta out soon with the Silent Switch and Novation Components site hopefully working sooooon.. Ciao for niao! Ant, 5of12.

    Looks like I can get Novation’s Components site to work! 🙌

    It actually turned out to be more work than the user agent… Novation also made a restriction on screen/non-desktop devices 🤦‍♂️ (I’m guessing you guys are on iPads more but I wanted to fix on iPhone too!)

    Only caveat is that Google OAuth Login doesn’t seem possibly (because they do another weird redirect thing), but the Novation login works at least 😌

    I’ll put this out soon as a 1.7.2 TestFlight build once I’ve done some more testing…
