The new version of SoundPrism?
It has been very quite and I figured this might be a good place to inquire as to any lowdown on the rundown. C'mon Sebastian, give us some clues. We will beg if we have to.
Comments
Per Twitter today: "In review. Fingers crossed".
It is really peculiar how fate urged me to even create this thread at this time lol.
Is this going to be an update to the existing app or a separate version? I hope it's the former as I only recently bought SP Pro.
What's new on this one? You guys know?
Mum seems to be the word.
Lots of awesomeness. Folks in the know obviously can't spill the beans and taint Sebs big release party. Sounds like the secrecy is coming to an end soon enough, though.
I'll be miffed if I have to buy a new version, I hate it when developers do that.
I hate it when a big hammer drops on my toe and I am barefoot! What else does anyone not like? Lets see how big of a list we can compile.
Oh and I will be mad if a hammer does in fact drop on my toe. I do not know that it will and there is no indication one way or the other but I am still getting my complaint in just in case I am not here to complain when it does.
It's got nothing to do with hammers and toes or complaining for the sake of it, I get peeved when an app I've just bought becomes obsolete and is replaced with a new purchase. If it's completely different then great, but if it's a way to get existing customers to fork out again for an almost identical product (Beatmaker, I'm looking at you) then it stinks. Hopefully this won't be the case.
Of course I hope a hammer does not drop on my toe, why would I want that? If one does in fact fall on it I reserve a right to complain however. I am not complaining yet because I do not know if one will in fact fall on my toes, you see?
Well, the app was ten bucks I think and was released a few years back. I wouldn't fault Seb or any other developer for not wanting to live in a cardboard box. I can swing ten or twenty bucks every few years for awesome updates. This isn't just an "update" though, I think you'll find.
Will it run on IOS 7.0 is my only concern but if it does not I can not fault the developer I suppose. I really need to upgrade my ipad situation soon.
It's coming before the holdidays. We're very happy about it. It will require iOS 8. It's iPad only but we'll make a mini version later that runs on an iPhone/iPod (in fact we've already made it but we're still testing and improving it).

It's a different app. It shares a lot with SoundPrism Pro but there's no way we'll change the interface/features of SoundPrism Pro because many musicians rely on it. We're keeping SoundPrism Pro around and we'll update it in case there's bugs but SoundPrism Electro (the new app) is going to be the first of a series of new apps with different sound sets and slightly differing control schemes, each of which is individually crafted to work well with the theme of the app.
is it too soon to ask about the kind of themes?
Very cool! Minus iOS 8. the imminent update is upon us few 7's left
@kobamoto said:
Not too soon but I don't know if I should announce them yet. It'd be interesting to hear what you guys want once you have Electro in your hands.
@TGiG said:
Understandable. We've had to make a hard decision and decided against iOS 7 because it'll save us metric craptons of support effort to only support one version of iOS.
SoundPrism Strings.
Never mind, I will just wait until I upgrade as I really need to support those still developing for ios 7 at this time. Once I can afford a new ipad I am sure to try it though.
@boone51 said:
If you looked at the amount most of us spend on apps every year, or total up the cost of apps that no longer work on my iPad, or are supported it's starting to make this a very expensive platform to use, regardless of the individual price of each app. And that's not including the price of the iPad itself, which will need replacing if it's still to run them (my iPad 2 is becoming more obsolete with every new release). If I'd bought SoundPrism a year ago I wouldn't mind, but I only bought it a few weeks ago.
@Sebastian said:
Fair enough. I doubt I'll be upgrading to ios 8 anytime soon anyway as I don't want to sacrifice other apps that don't run on it. Great that you're still fixing bugs with SP Pro, disappointed it won't be getting any new features though as this is a relatively new purchase for me.
@Sebastian said:
i can wait, I know I getting one of them anyway.. I know you haven't requested any suggestions for themes but just incase you guys are open to them I'd like to ask your consideration for an neo soul theme. There are so many controller type apps out sound prism being on the higher echelon for so long but none of them have a thick bank of neo-soul / soulful gospel sets. I think nobody has really taken a hard look in that direction but those kinds of chords and scales are so useful for different kinds of music even outside of neo-soul or gospel, and If you guys did a real in-depth set I would snatch that up in a heartbeat!
@kobamoto said:
Huh, that's kind of cool
oh man you don't know how glad I am to hear you say that, and the neo-soul gospel theory is deep, I don't know why that neo-soul keys guy hasn't done it yet but fck, if you guys do it, with the level and depth of quality that you guys did sound prism omg I'm on it!
Sebastian,the new app will requires ios8,does this mean you and the Audiobus team suggests that ios8 is now stable enough for us 7 users to make the jump? Haven't received a (newsletter)stating that ,or should we hang a little longer,either way is fine ,but a new toy for the holidays has me looking up the chimney.thanks

SoundPrism is made by Audanika. Different company. Although I work on Audanika stuff and Audiobus stuff. Don't take the decision to release SoundPrism on iOS 8 only as an indication for anything. If you rely on stuff that only works on iOS 7, don't update. If you're not sure about it... don't update. If you have no way of testing if everything works... yep: Don't update.
such a lovely place to be.. but so hate when someone start complaining about the iTunes prices, or worse "does this 1 dollar app worth one dollar"? Shit.. people, what happened to you? almost all of us purchase stupid things everyday which cost more that one app from the store (and you can use it years...) like cigarettes, alcohol, hamburgers...
Sebastian and all developers big Thank you for all you hard work and efforts you make.
You know one of the things I'd love to see in Soundprism pro.....a little discrete box somewhere that would display the flavour of chord that your finger touches are creating.
I do realise that involves a fair bit of logic coding, paired with the ambiguous nature of chord spellings, plus the user changes to sharps and flats.
Yep, as I'm writing that I'm thinking that's never going in, quite rightly for the work effort.
Be nice though.
Edit: just realised this wouldn't work for me for the extra reason that the way I play Soundprism usually is a bassline on the left and melody on the right, much more often than using it for purely chord progressions.
Something I've always wanted to see in Soundprism though, is a way to visually identify each row's interval nature to the root. Different colours for the 3rd and 5th of the scale etc.

It's not 1 dollar, and apps don't fufill their potential in isolation. If you want to get the best from them then you'll need a DAW to record them into, Audiobus, effects, a MIDI compatible synth, drum app, sampler to use audio in your tunes, Audioshare type app to manage, import and export, etc. etc. plus the hardware to run it all on.
If all the apps I own followed the 'let's create a new app instead of developing the existing one' model then it would cost me hundreds of dollars •every year• in update costs. Fortunately they don't, or like Audiobus add extra features as IAP's.
Audiobus is my favourite app and I'm very grateful to the developers for creating it and SP Pro, and if the new app is different then it isn't an issue. What I do hate are the growing number of purchases I've made that no longer work, have been abandoned, or most irritatingly replaced by new purchases. If all developers did this I couldn't afford to continue to make music on an iPad.
