Caustic Editor for Volca Sample
Hey guys, just to give a heads up to any (hardware) gear heads considering the new Volca Sample machine from KORG.
Because KORG were nice enough to open up their SDK to 3rd parties (and because their AudioPocket app is pretty basic), I took a few days to rip out Caustic's WAV editor and turn it into a stand-alone, multi-platform tool for getting sounds into your Volca Sample.
This includes a list database for all your samples, Caustic's powerful WAV editor (you can zoom in to individual samples for trimming), Fade in/out, amplify, normalize, apply effects, etc as well as the little C-Sfxr sound generator which is a perfect fit for this little machine.
My app also lets you clear all samples or restore the factory samples if you mess up.
Now the main reason I'm posting here is because I read some concerns in threads here that KORG's app didn't have Audiobus support so I've included that (receiving slot). Therefore you should be able to create some pretty cool samples for use in your Volca sample using all your AB apps.
I've also included support for AudioShare / AudioCopyPaste /Open In for WAV because that was also lacking, and because I already had those things working in Caustic.
Anyway, the app is free and you can get it on Mac, PC, Android aaaaaand eventually iPhone/iPad when Apple get around to approving it. Sorry if I got your hopes up. If everything goes well it should only be ~1 week, I'll update this thread when I get the green light.
Here's the post on my website with download links for what's available so far.

Oh, thanks man, what a Christmas gift!
What a fucking legend... honestly amazingly generous move here!!
Many people on android/mac/ios/pc are going to be very happy (me included).
Thanks so much
Oh boooy
Here is a new free android app to load sample to your volca sample. It has youtube demo. It is tested on android 4.4 and volca sample 1.22.

Double merry Christmas!
Thank you, this is brrrilliant !
Fantastic! Phenomenally generous, @Rej!
Richie
Thank you Rej!
Congrats on the CDM front page too!
@rej, have you thought about integrating this directly into Caustic? Well, I'm sure you have! Maybe the question is in what ways have you considered integrating this with Caustic? Will not hold you to anything, super promise, I'm just curious and interested.
I have a problem with the Android version on Google Nexus 2. Restoring factory samples shows the entire list grayed (after several minutes of awful noise ), but I can't play/load any of them.
Only works with sounds recorded through the mic. Any idea? Thanks.

From the original post sounds like this has been de-integrated from Caustic in the 1st place.
@BiancaNeve I took that first post to mean 'I took some core code out of Caustic for this project' instead of reinventing the wheel, not necessarily 'because I don't want this to be a part Caustic'.
Hey, sorry to post and run like that but it was getting late down here and time for bed.
@fjcblanco: Unfortunately, the factory samples can't be previewed. KORG only supplies a binary lump we can send for the reset. I'm sure it contains sample data that could be extracted, but that would probably fall under some breach of terms or copyright if I did. The only reason I show the names and times is because I noted them all down from the stock app. (and to allow for RAM usage calculations)
@syrupcore: I haven't really thought about integration with Caustic ... I guess I could offer to zap a sample directly to the volca from the editor in Caustic but I really made this as a stand-alone for that purpose. I did make a few improvements to the WAV editor during the development of this app that I've since brought back to Caustic, little things like upper-lower case keyboard support.
@rej, I'm thinking about some bits of greased workflow. Like 'send this 1/4 of a bar that I've selected to the Volca'. Caustic would sample it in the background and send it on with no more user interaction. Or in the sample select screens have another button that says 'send to volca'. Certainly all doable by pointing caustic at the new app and recording via AB and then editing/sending.
Awesome...Thank you! Can't wait for the iOS versions!
This is getting some great press:

@Rej brilliant and very cool. Thanks!
We just published a short interview with Rej about his volca sample editor. You can find it here (with the cutest picture you may see today!):

Hello again, just dropping by to mention the iOS version has been approved and is live.

Have fun.
Thank you so much, Rej. Because so many people here are pleased about this app: Do you all own the new Volca already? At least here in Germany, the Volca Sample is still not available.
Yes, I have a Volca sample but had to import it. Check out the interview anr published two posts up for the whole story.
I've since bought a Volca Keys to fiddle around with driving MIDI from caustic. Fun.
Fantastic..thank you!
@Rej Great app sample editing functionality and thanks for the Audioshare and Audiobus support.

Me too. Love it. Also me too: waiting for the volca sample to arrive.
@Rej said:
Rej, I didn't know the fact that Caustic is sending MIDI clock ... or did you play the Volca via note events?
@klangsulfat said:
This is in a development branch of Caustic. No promises, just experimenting.
Sorry for the OT but I have a question for @Rej.
Is it possible to export / share a mix from Caustic without performing the mix again?
@Rej Factory sample # 65 has a typo: ynthHit 6
Thanks for this!
Just playing a few minutes...amazing.
@Shay, that's not possible right now but it's something I want to add for the next version: better export options in general, including share without re-exporting the mix.
@klangsulfat: Thanks, yeah I noticed that too the other day. i've fixed it but I didn't want to pull the app from the approval pipeline for that. There's also an extra space on one of the other names which has been removed too.
I think I've figured out a way to access the factory samples for playback using the data file KORG has supplied in the SDK so I'll put that in too. I probably won't allow people to edit or save the factory sounds to not mess with KORG's ip rights, but I don't see much harm in playing them back...
