iMaschine update...

edited December 2014 in General App Discussion

At last , iMaschine is on the bus, along with IAA and a host of other features. About bloody time Native Instruments got their finger out!

    link?

  • @papertiger , The UK AppStore is still showing version 1.1.1 from 27th May 2014, but I have an update available to version 1.2 available today. Bizarre...I'lldownload the update when I get home from work tonight, maybe they'll have the update posted on the AppStore by then, and I'll post a link

  • It's in the App Store. Just updated all my devices.

    Audiobus
    IAA
    Non-destructive sample start/stop position editing

  • What a great day for iOS music apps.

  • Woo hoo! This is the update I have been waiting for over 2 years:)

Goodbye iMPC "Pro" and MPC Studio.

  • edited December 2014

Now if I could only hook up a midi controller to it. Good news, nevertheless.

Goodbye iMPC "Pro" and MPC Studio.

I literally uninstalled both of these apps in the last 2 days. I'll reinstall them again if they ever get their sht together (namely, CoreAudio support). I'm still SMH @ "we didn't test IMPC or IMPC Pro with external audio cards...". What in thee entire, worldwide fuk!?

  • Whaaaat? It is like update imaschine and forget retroMPCnym

  • does iMaschine have a step sequencer, though? It's been ages since I've bothered with it.

What about the Export options? Does the new update bring support for Audiocopy or Open In... (Audioshare and the like) on the exported loops?

That would we much more useful for my workflow than Audiobus/IAA.

No, and I said the same thing. I would much rather just copy a loop and paste into my app. But considering what a milestone this is, I'm not mad at all.

  • I don't know, Retronyms did send out an exciting update/offer of sorts yesterday:

    Three Great Things. Great Together.

    Mobile Producer Bundle
Bundle MPC Element, MPK Mini, and a Wej preorder to save up to 75 bucks! Akai Professional and Retronyms — the partners that brought you iMPC Pro — are excited to announce this opportunity. Choose from three configurations of two killer USB controllers and a Wej preorder. Existing Wej customers can participate too and upgrade to a bundle (look for a separate email).

These bundles are available in the USA only. International users can preorder Wej here.

  • This explains why Akai designed the MPK Mini MK2 in such a way that it didn't work directly with the Ipad. They were waiting for their partner Retronyms to release the $129 Wej accessory!

Now it makes sense. Brilliant strategy:)

  • ^ software/hardware hybrids require that both elements be worth using, tho... ;-)

  • Sweet update, glad they're finally on the bus, non destructive start/end point editing, didn't think I'd be excited to see such a basic feature in a drumbox. Hopefully a step sequencer edit page and fx for each of the four channels including hosting iaa fx and instruments, will be included in a future update.

  • Just tested it and it works really well. I think I had this in my list of wishful thinking so very chuffed they've done this. Once I've copied a few of the iMPC Pro samples across I can happily trash the space wasting pile of doggy doo's.

  • I thought this was a 'never happen' also. Would have loved to have heard the backchat at that marketing meeting...

It's made my week, it's been a cracking few weeks in app World.

Wow. I really wasn't thinking this would ever happen. I actually bought some of the IAP's for it and just ripped them our as .wav samples (iFunBox) for use on a rainy day.

It does NOT have a step sequencer of any kind, IIRC, but it has a very effective quantization feature for fixing the timing of inputs.

+1 to the comment above about ACP being a preferred export option, but AB/IAA is a nice surprise, and sufficient to record loops. The "killer feature" that will go well with this are some of the zoom additions to AudioShare that would make it easier to clip and trim loops live recorded from iMaschine.

Now that the app has just enough functionality to actually be useable for recording music, the question will be if it is actually better than EasyBeats 3, triqtraq, etc. to the point where I can justify carrying a half-a-gigabyte app on my device... (Edit: My memory was off - the app is actually around 200 MB upon install, BUT it balloons to 500 MB+ with the Quantum Collection free install and saved projects (plus any other IAP's).

too bad. much of my iOS music time is when I'm on public transportation commuting, so playing is not really an option. thanks.

I'd probably use something else for step sequencer type stuff, Gadget for example. For me iMaschine fills the gap I had for a decent pad-based sample player for live overdubbing in GarageBand. I've been using other apps for that, such as Samplr but iMaschine fills this particular requirement better.

Like all apps it's a piece of the jigsaw, not the whole picture. I'll probably use this in nearly every track I make from now on.

yeah, i need to get over myself with respect to Gadget. I was so mad about how the sampling was implemented in the sampler instruments that I've been ignoring it. Clearly, I need to reattach my nose and move on.

  • Really nice to see iMaschine finally get on the bus :)

I don't think we'll see the program evolve dramatically, not for a while anyway, but it's one of those Apps where less is more particularly on the iPhone. It's a great sounding sketch pad and now you can finally get your sketches out into another App when you want to do more with them. Should work great as fuel for Gaget's samplers!

I must admit I haven't really used Abu Dhabi much, and unlikely I will now iMaschine's on the bus. I need to put my nose back on too.

    Brilliant

Maybe it's time for an updated video? hint

I'm still holding back on a purchase until i get to see how 'good' the built-in sample editor is and if the import/export of samples has improved and if sampling works thru AudioBus...

I can't see anywhere if it support ACP or 'Open In...' to get sounds/loops in/out to/from the app other than 'recording' the output to AB & IAA compatible apps, so it seems it's still iFunBox that is needed to pull out the samples recorded with this app.

To get people hooked to this app the basic app NI should make the basic app free and focus on selling content :)

Yep, big minus point for the app - it doesn't sit in the AB output slot so you can't sample that way, no 'open in' option via Audioshare...it's mic recording and iTunes for getting samples in. I'd hoped they'd improved this, so it's not there yet

  • Thanks Monzo that just saved me the trouble of wasting my time with this.

Fair point - this really is NOT a "sampler" in any real sense of the term. It's a sampler insofar as you can trigger internal content offered within the app. Primarily, it is a beatbox with some actually pretty damn cool sample packs, and it can do basic basslines and leads, tied together with a very functional looping interface. That's really about it. But it's great "on the go", and the inherent sounds are certainly good enough to warrant exporting for use in a more complete project.
