Did I miss us talking about this??

I know not strictly a music app but a lot of us on here do visualization and it integrates with audio/ MIDI based on the description. And from one of the greats.

  • From the creators of Aum and Audioshare... And Sector, one of my favorite apps.

It's been years. I have three visuals apps I purchased over a decade I haven't even bothered with... But Kymatica? They could make me interested!

    Need videos!

    .

  • Nice one @j_liljedahl ! Good luck with the new release.

Wot no AUv3? (It does have Ableton link though… )

  • Why zero demo or videos about it?

  • Kind of unlucky timing just after the Drambo visual IAP tbh, no?

That's true but then again, you do need Drambo in the first place for that one while this one is it's own. I do find it a bit curious why they do this (sidetrack) when there's plenty of good visualizers already around. This one feels a bit like Hexlers Kodelife which are really powerful but lacks tutorials and thus is hard to learn.

This has the usual detailed Kymatica manual, like AUM does. Haven't looked at it but I'm sure it'll be a well designed app and maybe easier to learn than some others, indeed, for those willing to put in the time to work through the manual.

And VS2 not long ago. Developers seem to love code generated visuals…who’d have thought?!

  • Looks interesting, I can’t spot the manual on his website, anyone know if it has any projection mapping built in?

Weirdly there is no manual on his site, it's only available from a button inside the app. Maybe email him and ask him to. Put it on his site and / or get you a pdf?

  • Been doodling about on the beta… I’m not super skilled in shader creation so I just used the examples to create stuff…
I used some fractal noise layers that I animated to create a generative sky…
I only scratch the surface of what is capable with the app…
    Great fun though!
Will post a proper video later at some point…

    Yeah I wondered the same.
There’s a pic on the App Store that makes it look ominous and kinda put me off…..

    Ahh I see, I presumed you’d hunted it out🙏

  • @Krupa from Jonatan:

“I've just put the user guide up here:

    http://kymatica.com/lucinate/help

Lucinate is not really a visualizer, it's a modular playground where
you can build visualizers if that's what you want :)

The app is too complex to run as an AUv3 plugin, so it's stand-alone
only. However you can feed it audio via hardware or via Ableton Link
Audio (for example from AUM using the free AudioPipeline plugin). You
can also beat-sync it via Ableton Link or MIDI Clock, etc. I envision
people running Lucinate on a dedicated iPad or Mac and syncing it up
to whatever they use for the music (other iOS devices, laptops,
    modular hardware gear, etc”

  • Also:

"You can run AUM and Lucinate on the same iPad using stage manager (Metal based apps can't render graphics in background, so they must have a visible window), feeding it Audio and/or MIDI from AUM."

I've been working on and off on this project for 2 years, and wanted to finally release it so I can take a couple of weeks off :)
I didn't find the time to make a proper demo video yet, but will surely make one later on. I'm also hoping people that are better than me at making videos/tutorials/reviews will pick it up.

Ah cheers Jonatan, looks like it doesn’t currently; I’m just in research phase of planning a live jamming audio visual suite so looking at various options, I’ll probably end up with touch designer or maybe notch (if I can persuade them to let me use it for less than the commercial price as a research project) but maybe this one might get into the mix as a source to feed through a projection system I at some point, looks very usable for sure 👌

  • Best of luck with the release @j_liljedahl

Here's another from JamCam(iOS) dude Isak, Arkestra

Nothing built in, but it should be flexible enough to create such things yourself, if you're willing to write some shader code :)

  • I have been using a bit the last few days. I made a simple setup video yesterday and a quick output video today. I made a 4k video that is taking a bit of time to upload but they will be linked together as they go up. not great videos by any means but just showing some of the features I have come across and able to get going rather quickly.
I love the app and if you are a person that likes visuals, video synths, liquid light shows, touch designer you would probobaly pick this up in a few minutes. It's not hard to figure things out but you do have be a click on everything curious person to go deep. https://youtu.be/rMCbZVC8hOQ. https://youtu.be/egsczoVuVp0

Agreed. I wanted to see this in action too.

  • Does anyone know of shaders that can do the sort of liquid flowy visualizations one can do in Stella?

  • I find it incredible that there's no undo/redo function

In a different universe there’s a version of me that might be able/get round to figuring out doing that 😅

Tbh I’ll probably end up using splash or map map with whatever solution I get into, probably be a long research project looking at all options…. Btw how long does the intro price last?

  • Interesting, how does it compare to VS2 and Drambo Visual. What are the main differences, limitations and so on. I mean besides super obvious like AUv3 support.

E.g VS2 is quite CPU heavy and does not handle well even 2-3 layers on my M4 iPad pro. By "well" I mean stable 24 fps. And overall the lack of "fixed FPS" render option is annoying when you want to match the visualization with video. I had to re-record each layer separately and join them in DaVinci

Does standalone-only nature of Lucinate allows to offer better optimization or fixed FPS render?
