@kgmessier, I second the great post. I am guilty of that on all accounts.
And..........I can say, I've never been the "Obnoxious Kid" at Guitar Center. Mainly only because I was in my mid 20's by the time I finally made it to one. And that was to pick out an acoustic guitar. Me and a friend spent over 5 hours playing acoustics that day.
By the way, AltiSpace (and all iMusicAlbum apps) went on sale yesterday. They have a bundle as well.
I’m still trying to find the best amp sim, the nembrini looks confusing and if I went that route not sure which to get. I currently own bias2 and th-u but have not made any extra purchases. I’m just looking for some simple great sounding metal tones, I just don’t want to waste my money to find out the tone sucks…. I’m frustrated because I only have $20 to spend, I just have no clue what direction to take
@jdolecek49 ; go listen to recent recordings of the Nembrini and TH-U sims. There are a ton of YouTube and SoundCloud recordings posted…many have links on the forum.
The Nembrini sims are easy to use. The controls are the same as on an actual amp. What is confusing about them?
With nembrini in the AppStore so it’s not an app so to speak but you just buy heads and other components separately??
They can run either standalone or as an AUv3 effect.
The Nembrini site has many demos of every amp. I suggest going to have a listen. I also suggest starting with the free ones. You might just find something you can use, at least at first while you're trying to figure all this setup stuff, without wasting your money. You can definitely get up and playing with some good metal tone for $0.
You're going to need to learn how to set up FX chains in AUM or some host. It's not hard, but if you're asking about the difference between an app, and components, you may need to get some other knowledge under your belt to get started.
So you set up the head and then ad fx components via aum is that correct??
In whatever host you want.
I don't think you're quite visualizing it just yet. You set up an audio input for your guitar in AUM. Below that you start adding FX. You would set up plugins in the order you would in a regular guitar chain. In a very simple chain, I normally have a tuner (normally disabled) followed by a distortion plugin followed by the amp sim, then a reverb. If I was using an IR cab simulator it'd be between the amp and the reverb.
In this screenshot the microphone input would be your audio interface input. I don't have an interface with me to show that. The output is muted to avoid feedback because of using the mic instead.
Ok I got everything working almost….
Same problem I had few years back with th-u. I get sound from my guitar but it’s not from the amp sims and I have tried everything , also what in the world is that rig player
Please, post a screenrecording or screenshots. It is really hard to know where things are going wrong for you.
I explained what the rig player is to you already in the last day or two. You will also find discussions of them in this forum. Use the search box.
Here yago
Couple of things here… you see that little speaker symbol lower right that’s crossed out, that means your signal is set to “mute”. So unmute it.
Also, you see on the right edge of the screen there’s the white vertical line, that’s your output level reading. You’re supposed to have one on the left side side too, for your input level reading, but it’s not there because your signal is “mute”. You should always have your input and output readings when you play, and when they go up to the top of the screen into the red it means your input or output is too hot. So keep those meters in the upper third of the screen but not in the red.
Finally, you need to select your input channel inside th-u, corresponding with the input channel you’re using on your interface. So if you plug your guitar into channel one of your interface (the left input), then you need to go to th-u to the menu in the upper right, and select channel 1 as your input.
After you do all that and have glorious sound, can you also post a screen shot of what the th-u menu in upper left looks like? Those levels need to be set too, that’s the master level menu. Godspeed.
@jdolecek49 P.S. when you’re in the th-u menu in the upper right, go to the “global settings” to pick your input channel, but also choose your sample rate and buffer settings. The default setting of 48kHz 256 buffer is fine, but if you want even lower latency, lower the buffer to 128. Do not go down to 64 buffer as you may get glitches and drop outs. 512 buffer is ok too but you may perceive latency at that point. For the absolute lowest latency I like to use 128 buffer and 96kHz, but I recommend that most players use 128 buffer and 44.1 or 48 kHz.
Also, don’t forget to create a th-u account and log in, because you get more free amps and pedals and some rig profiles just for doing that.
To access the rig player, just delete all of the components on the screen so you have a blank screen and it’s just your dry signal. In the lower right press on the + sign and you’ll see the Rig Player as the first component you can choose. If you’re logged in, you’ll be able to access 10 free rig profiles inside the rig player. The Peavey ones are super great for metal. Once I heard those rig profiles, I never looked back.
And finally, go to the th-u menu that’s in the upper left, you’ll find a tuner there by the way. When you’re there go to “Master”, set the “Volume” to about -6db. Then for “Sensitivity”, choose low if you’re using humbuckers and high if you’re using single-coils. “Remastered cab” should be set to ON. Leave the rest alone. Don’t forget to update your th-u app in the App Store.
I still dont know the purpose of the rig player
Also is there a way to see everything you own instead of weeding thru the components that you don’t own
Ok. Do you know what Kemper is?
It’s not about the purpose of the rig player, it’s what it is that matters. The Rig Player is an amp head, it loads rig profiles or patches of different amps and cabs together. So the Rig Player is an all purpose amp face that loads many different rig profiles. Here’s why it matters. Your garden variety guitar amp sim that you are used to using (Bias, etc..) those are just algorithms emulating amps. They’re digital emulations that someone designed to sound like some amp, then they name it something like Tangerine for and Orange amp, or Faceman for a Bassman, whatever. Even the actual licensed amps that are Fender or whatever, it’s all algorithmic emulation. The Rig Player is different, because it uses capture technology of the actual real life amp in a room to create all of those rig profiles. So all of those “Rigs” you can purchase in th-u, they are captures of the actual real life amps and cabs. Not a designed algorithm. Does this make sense?
Yes. Click on the + in the lower right. You’ll see the phrase “All Categories” top center. Click on the graphic just to the left of it, and choose “My Collection”.
You can also do this for the presets in the preset bank. Go to the preset bank top center, and click on the lock graphic on the left. This will grey out preset banks you don’t have.
Got it sounding decent, this will get me by until I can afford a real amp. I also purchase rhino after watching some Addams YouTube videos
Has anybody turned up the Gain in 30th Anniversary? Combined with the right cabinets and effects tweak I can get my guitar sounding pretty nice
