  • @never_be_normal - thanks a lot for the presets and comments about upcoming changes. Glad to see that it is possible to share new presets also, as I was hoping for some more. Also picked up 76 Synth based on the interest in this one. Excited to see where this one goes.

  • @never_be_normal great, thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks for your support everyone! I'll be tweeting preset packs from @synthQ.

  • @never_be_normal, thanks for sharing the presets. Did the "open with" method on my iPad. But it hangs on "Importing Presets Groups...", not finishing. Any suggestions? IPad Air with iOS 7.1.2. Will try later on another iPad with iOS 8.1.2. Maybe its related to the iOS.

  • edited January 2015

    Ok, got them now. Did the "rearranging" thing and than imported again. Than they show up as "preset pack 1". No matter of iOS.

  • Well, I'm having a blast with Synth-Q so far...

    Thanks to @never_be_normal for making this app, I will never be normal again! :D

    Here's a patch I made and thought it might be worth sharing...
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7548740/samu.zip

    The patch is called 'syncopated sequence'.

    X-Axis of the key controls resonance, Y-Axis controls cutoff.
    The 'Sequence' is made up of 3 LFO's controlling course-pitch of one oscillator.

    Have a blast playing with it :D

  • Thanks for the presets @never_be_normal. Thanks to them I discovered that it is possible to assign the keyboard key bend so it stays on the same key no matter how far you go. Still have to work out how it's done though!

  • Here's a synth-Q preset Super Stutter where changing the XY pad radically alters the sound. It will show up as PLU bank. You can copy the preset into whatever bank you like and delete the PLU bank when you're through.

    It's the button left of the panic! button :)

    @Samu cheers.

    You're welcome, the patch has quite a lot of tweakability, notes controlled by the modulation amounts and rhythm by the LFO's.

    Do what ever you like with it, tweak the heck out of it :D

    I do wish there was more LFO's and a Modulation-Sequncer to tweak it even further to add 'rests' by muting parts of the sequence or sweeping the filter etc...

  • Hi @never_be_normal,
    Thanks for the synth (and extra presets), the synth is a pleasure to program and play, and sounds great to my ears. I'm the dork up above that said it was a cool modular, and stand corrected, and hope you will delve into modularity in a future update!
    I'm having no luck with Synth-q using AB or IAA and virtual midi into MultitrackStudio. I can record audio from the synth into MTS, but no sequencing or playing the synth is possible via the MTS keys or midi sequencer. Synth-q does respond and is sequenceable and playable inside Beatmaker 2, in both AB and IAA, but only with the use of FreEWI and MIDIBridge

  • @Paulinko nice work. I will enjoy tweaking this preset.

  • edited January 2015

    Follow up on issues with Synth-q in MTS: I've found that i can sequence and play Synth-q from MTS keys and piano roll, via AB, if I use freEwi and select freEwi (rather than Synth-q) in MTS "virtual MIDI apps" window...sweet.

    Still no luck making synth-q and MTS work together via IAA..sound and midi info records into MTS from the synth-q gui, but sound, sequencing, and piano roll aren't happening from the MTS gui.

    And thanks @Paulinko and @Samu for your crafty presets!

    Huh. As I'm sure you well know, IAA in MultiTrackStudio is pretty much case-by-case as to whether it works. Which is too bad because if it did work, it would be almost Ableton-like for sequencing and recording convenience. However, it sounds like you are having problems even setting up the "dummy" Virtual MIDI control track and then recording synth-q through AudioBus - that method is usually pretty solid for me. Haven't tested it - if I do later, I'll let you know if I got it to work.

    @StormJH1
    IAA is still a fail with MTS and synth-q, but as I said above (too tersely it seems), AB once again won the day, in this case MTS and synth-q are playing together nicely via AB.

    Also midi flows as well in both directions (I can record realtime midi data into MTS from synth-q, including nuances of modulations from synth-q's crazy/cool keys and sliders).

    The move here was to put FreEWI in the pile with MTS, AB, and synth-q. This includes selecting FreEWI, rather than synth-q, for MTS's "virtual MIDI app" in the instrument selection window.

    So now I can sequence note data, and automate parameters, in synth-q from MTS's piano roll and controller automation lanes, and can play live from MTS gui, ie. play synth-q from MTS's crazy/cool cello interface and send and record note info, velocity, vibrato and tremolo. (As well as the other way around, playing live from synth-q's keyboard and sliders as mentioned above, recording the performance as midi data and audio into MTS). I love it when a plan comes together, especially when there are four+ devs involved.

    If it happens again, can you send me a screenshot?

    That's sticky keys mode — and as @Samu said, its the last button in the keys top menu, to the left of the panic! button.

    @Littlewoodg: What version of iOS are you running? I think I know what's happening with the issues you brought up but I'm going to have to investigate it a little bit more.

    Also concerning automation in synth-Q:

    I was a bit surprised by this comment because currently the only MIDI messages you can automate in synth-Q is the pitch bend, velocity, and mod wheel. Also, the only MIDI out messages implemented in synth-Q for the moment are note messages, pitch bend, mod wheel and velocity. There's no MIDI data being sent by other controls or the XY keys yet.

    Were you just automating those three parameters? It might be a bit misleading since you can still get a lot of variety by hooking them up to other things in synth-Q's mod system, but unfortunately for now automation is somewhat limited.

    I actually just picked up MTS today — pretty impressed by it so far, and it looks like its going to be super useful for development.

    @never_be_normal
    I didn't mean to indicate anything but pitch bend, velocity and modwheel- which as it is, is damn cool, btw.
    I'm on the latest 8.x iOS.
    Thanks for the synths - 76 is also a blast - and thanks for working with us here on the forum.

  • Synth-Q running through 76! Big fun there!

    Oh ok cool. Thanks!

    I'm on the latest 8.x iOS...

    I'm gonna look into it— I think I know whats causing these problems.

    No problem! I want to be working with my users with this app for sure.

    Here's some more percussive presets if anyone's interested.

  • edited January 2015

    Thanks for the perc presets: very cool.

  • Got this synth a few days ago and am loving it, the little preset packs you have put out are very cool. Greg job a very fun and intuitive synth you have made

  • Nice one @Synthmaniac great sounding synth to learn on.

    @never_be_normal
    Good to hear you got MTS, not only out of self interest, but because MTS is an amazing application. I'm guessing the more you get into it, the more you'll really dig it. Check in with Mr. Bremmers, I bet you two will find things to talk about.

    @supadom
    Exactly: for some reason the combination of features/sound/gui makes this a great synth for learning on. Fun, fun, and it's sending me into my other synths to f#%k around with things I figured out inside synth-q, back and forth.

    Thanks! I'm really excited to try out everyone else's presets as well!

    It's taking me a while to get a workflow going with MTS but it is definitely leagues above what I was using before. It's too bad about the IAA issues with synth-Q, and I did have to resort to the workaround you posted to get MIDI working so hopefully I can get these sorted out for the next update.

    That's awesome! One of the areas I'm looking to improve is the approachability of this synth — I think the default preset library needs work and should include some less busy patches for people who are just learning.

  • @never_be_normal
    Approachability-wise, synth-q rocks- the stepped tutorials are really useful and furthering. Don't get me wrong tho: keep cranking out presets!

  • Hey everyone,

    Been feeling under the weather — but I'm still working on synth-Q! I created a facebook discussion group to keep all synth-Q-related discussion in one place (as well as the preset packs I have been uploading). While you're at it, feel free to like the app page as well.

    I've been working on a demo track using only synth-Q and I will be putting out a preset pack that contains all the sounds from it soon.

    Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to leave a nice review, it really helps me out!

  • Just left a review on AppStore UK

    I recently got this.
    Great concept and capable of some really interesting tones.
    I like the keyboard layout too, really expressive with modulation possibilities.

    @never_be_normal Any chance of a darker skin?
    I like the colourful modules, but I would prefer a black/dark background for clarity.
    Maybe an inverse keyboard would work too ?!
