Akai eie help!!!
After a 4 or 5 month hiatus from using my ipad musically, I've purchased an akai eie and cck kit. I seem to be completely helpless as how to hook it up. I have the USB midi cord that came with the eie hooked up to my ipad... What now? Previously my set up was beatmaker 2 into turnado then audiobus. Could somebody explain to me like I'm a 5 year old what I'm supposed to do to get my ipad to recognize the eie?

I can get the eie to register my instrument, when I plug into the iPad however it will only take the built in mic input from my Ipad... What on earth am I supposed to do?
Update... Now my ipad is getting no input signal at all...
Which port are you plugging the iPad into? You should be plugging it into the USB-B port, not any of the three USB-A ports. If you're plugged into the correct port, you should be able to play an instrument app on your iPad, and hear it through the headphone jack of the EIE.
Hey! Thanks for the response, I was beginning to think it was just me on here... I am indeed using the correct port. However my intention is to plug my bass guitar into the akai (so far so good, the little needle moves in response to my bass volume) and have that be recorded onto loopy. I don't use any instrument apps but if that would be helpful in diagnosing the problem I'd happy to download one
Do you have anything recorded in Loopy already? If so, just play it back and listen in the eie headphone jack. Can you post a picture of the front of the eie to see how you have that set up?
Here's a pic!
I dont have any headphones with me ATM, so I can't tell you of anything is playing through the eie
Heres a less blurry pic
That looks like the silver eie. I think it's only the red one that works with the iPad.
If it is the Pro version which is Silver then it is not class compliant. Only the Red one is class compliant and will work with the iPAD.
I can't make out much of anything in the picture. If I get a chance, I'll try to post a pic of my EIE.
Turning the light on before taking the pic might have helped.
And turn the eie off, so you don't get the light from that.
Here's how mine is setup (see pic.). If your running directly into Loopy, and have your eie set up like mine, it should work, however if not, the instrument level might be too low or your Loopy settings might need to be tweaked.
Hey, I Mimi led all of the placement of the knobs but still nothing. When I plug in the eie loopy gives me as menu option I don't understand, here's a picture
This is the input selection menu. The eie has 4 input channels. Loopy can either use one input ( as shown by the 1bright dot of the 4 grouped dots) as mono or 2 of the input channels ( as shown by the 2bright dots of the 4 grouped dots) as Stereo. If all you connect is your Bass, the you'll probably want one of the single channels options.
Does it matter which "dot" I choose? I have yet for loopy to register any of the audio from my bass...
Is your interface red like the picture Russ posted or is it silver?
Your bass is mono, so try each of the single dots to see if either work.
I have the red eie
What is most frustrating is I can never seem to get the same results twice. Sometimes when I plug my interface in it doesn't register at all. I'll in plug and replug it to find that the iPad mic is still picking up sound, but there's no output (or the output is going through the eie) I'll un plug and replug again and get the input selection menu. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to any of it
Yesss I was finally able to get loopy to register my bass... Now just to make that result replicable.
Many many thanks to all who are actively helping me out. You guys are life savers
Good to hear. I hope you're able to get back to it consistently.
Great!
Is yours as red as mine?
So far not so much luck. It's still sporadic, with 1 out of every 20 or so times I connect it giving me the input selection menu. Is there any manual way to bring this menu up?
That's strange that you're having those inconsistent results. For me it was just plug and play.
When you use audiobus make sure you select the correct input via the 'info' icon of the input slot. So if you have something plugged into input 1 xlr of the eie you should also select input 1 from the 'info' icon and similarly for the rest of the inputs preferably but not necessarily on separate pipelines. If you then put loopy in the output you should get a signal coming in ready to record.
Are you using Audiobus? Where is the menu appearing?
