edited December 2014 in General App Discussion

Updated to IOS8, Audiobus 2.1.5, precision knob view (which looks great), Midi channel selector and the ability to delete custom presets.

Responds to virtual midi from other apps. Make sure the sending app sends out its virtual midi stream as setting it to send to iMini virtual midi won't work.

  • This was one of the last ones on my list before updating to iOS8. I'm still uneasy, with a few exceptions I haven't updated an app since September and things aren't working out too bad most of the time.

Can someone who has updated iMini check if it still resets tempo to 120 whenever it is re-opened or if it now remembers the last tempo setting on close?

    Cheers.

  • Oh good, update should still be available for iOS7 users.

Wasn't the issue with this one stuck MIDI notes or something? I'm not a live user, but I remember people saying it had great sounds but they could never trust it to work.

  • I was definitely saying that, I'll download the update later today and will test. Sadly, gigs are very light in the first part of the year, but on the upside I'll be able to fully test it first.

  • Finally, this was one of the last three apps i own not updated, now im just waiting for igrand and ilectric

  • @mrufino1 Happy about this one (I think/hope), but for some reason consider you the bellweather, so look forward to your thumbs up (or not :)....

Nope, still resets (iOS 7.1). It also resets the volume to full every single time, and the sound still distorts on my iPad.

I think this one is for the chop soon.

Uh oh, the pressure is on! And I've never been called a bellweather, I think that's good? I'm moving to England just for the phrases. I long to be knackered after getting petrol while making a call on my mobile...we're too boring in NJ. ;-)

I never had a distortion issue, we shall see! I've lived without it and will continue to do so if necessary, but will keep an open mind.

I'll give it a try later through AB, haven't really tested it - just checked the state saving but it sounded a bit raspy where it shouldn't have. When I've used it previously the volume starts on full and distorts the sound, but even turned down it's still rough. To get a clean sound I have to turn it right down, and then it's too quiet to record.

Hmmm, that's a shame. I've never had the full volume issue or problems with the sound, The last patch used opens on reload with the volume set where it was left. I just wish that the tempo was a patch setting not a global one.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it was designed like that so that when surfing presets the arp and delay syncs would stay the same - which is sort of cool if you preset surf to audition suitable sounds alongside other tracks, but it would be nice if you could at least store a global tempo other than 120.

I was really hoping they would get the quality of the implementation of this app to match the quality of the sound it produces (notwithstanding the problems you seem to be having, which I haven't experienced and can't explain, sorry). This has become a go-to app for me to create sub-bass sounds.

  • iMini is NOT showing in any Audiobus slot since I updated. I'm on iOS 8.1.2, iPad Air2

  • iOS 7.1.2 - Crashes when trying to access preset list.

  • lol, nice update.I'll wait for more impressions before i update. What about IAA in Cubasis (on iOS 8.1.2 and Air 2 for example)?Working?

@Lacm1993, thanks, that fixed it !

All seems to be working fine on air one seven

Edit: it's nice to be driving both by xynthesizr on separate channels. Arp maniacs wet dream.

Sounds absolutely awful still on some presets - crackly and distorted, but most seem to be ok. I'm thinking it's CPU related as it gets worse in an AB chain. Real shame as I'd use this a lot otherwise. I might have a fiddld later to see if I can tweak out the glitches.

To be fair, I haven't done a lot with the presets. I made myself an 'Initial' patch when I first got it and start from there each time. Typically I follow the 'take two saw waves and detune them' approach - adjusting envelopes, chorus and delay to suit the track.

I'll have a play around with some of the presets later and see if I can find any problems (this will be on a non-updated version, mini 2 and 7.1.2).

  • For some reason iMini Mod wheel does not activate from my MIDI controller. Pitch bend worked though.

Yup. And I have a few glitches -only on some patches- if I push the velocity up, but it's nice to be reminded just how rich some of these are...looking forward to running it through the Xynth,,,,

iMini Virtual MIDI in Port still not working. Which continues to make iMini useless in a MidiBridge or MidiFlow routing environment. Even with the (long awaited) channel selector. Why do they have increment only though ??? Same silly thing as iProphet. Which has the same broken VM In Port.

  • edited December 2014

Pretty sure iSEM was developed by Tempo Rubato and iMini and iProphet were developed by Retronyms. A guy who works for Retronyms has said as much on this board anyway.

And yes I know they all say Arturia.

  • Does sound good through Xynth....

    Your info is correct.

  • Can anyone else try the MOD wheel with a MIDI controller keyboard to see if it does not work? I'd like to know that it's not just me.

I've tried two different MIDI controllers and the iMini MOD wheel wouldn't work with either one. Pitch bend wheel does work.

    Thanks

  • It may be patch specific...ie: some use it some don't?

For iMini in AB (I'm using BM2 or MTS) The trick is to open FreEWI, then Midibridge (from inside FrEWI),
Then u have to open iMini before AB for it to appear in AB
Then open BM2 in AB, then iMini
This is what needed doing pre this update, no difference after, at least with BM2 and MTS. Cubasis didn't need the rigamarole because u can select "virtual midi" in that daw

As for the crunchy sounding patches, I've found these in many pads, and gotten some relief in airplane mode, with iMini's poly off

Off to pretend to be a grown up, but will carry the concept of getting some relief in airplane mode with me gratefully (or hopefully, even)...

I just tried it on about 30 different patches and the iMini screen MOD wheel would not move on any that I tried when I turned the MOD wheel on my MIDI keyboards. I think it's an annoying bug. It has been about 2 months since I've used iMini, but I'm pretty sure I remember being able activate the MOD wheel from my MIDI keyboard before.

I sent the question to Arturia's tech help email. I'll wait for a response from them.

Can't tell you how often found relief there...
