  • Hope she's not reading this forum..... I think she would use the old keyboard as something else........ ie: in the back of my head. :-\

Still on 7 so have no choice but to save my money.

    Agreed.

And the ball is dropped on the field. I hope this trend does not catch on too fast . At this rate the ipad air I just purchased could be hardware sooner than I had hoped.

Not that a piece of hardware like this would not be cherished. My older ipad on ios 7 will still remain an important and excellent tool for music creation until it's final breath of electrons.

  • Yeah, I'm out, at least for the foreseeable future. We're at a weird time right now - the iPad has been out long enough that that you still people with 1's, 2's, and 3's where it was their first iPad, and there hasn't been enough of a reason to replace it yet. It also seems like most new apps work on at least one prior version of iOS, but not the case with these iOS8 only apps. My iPad2 is not getting upgraded to iOS8 - its performance running recent apps on iOS7 is delicate enough as it is.

App design looks nice, but DXi, iProphet, etc. probably cover some of the same things, even if this is a different modeled piece of hardware. $20 also seems steep.

  • @SupaDom that was the best thing I've seen in a while. Absolutely!

So vintage you can taste it.

  • @supadom So much better. Something I have in common with your offspring: the MT-46 was my first keyboard too!

  • Having owned a CZ1000 for many years (as that was all I could afford at the time), $20 seems absurdly overpriced. Maybe $1 for the nostalgia factor, but even then, I doubt I'd ever incorporate it into any of my tracks.

  • I own a CZ101 and CZ1000 and they are good synths and I was looking forward to the iPad version but put off by £14.99 price tag. I have already recreated those lovely CZ resonant filter sweeps on Sunrizer anyway.

  • Peeps, iOS 7 is gone. That's technology for you. If iOS 7 works perfectly for you then no worries. It was the same situation with iOS 6 but look how that turned out with iOS 7.

The soundtestroom uses iOS 8 so that is definitely saying something.

I still have OS 10.6.8 on my Mac Pro but it is working fine so don't mess with whatever you have if it ain't broke.

My temptation was so much that I decided to go for it and purchase the CZ app even though it is a ridiculous £14.99. My opinion of this app is that it really does sound like the original CZ synths and it's got the same synth programming parameters as the original synths especially the eight stage envelopes with the addition of chorus and reverb and DWP effects. I am a bit confused why they put a 4 track mixer in there when there is no record function to record tracks.

Would you buy it again if you knew this?

  • I think there is more to come from this app...

Except in iOS 7's case it was a bug that stopped audiobus related to receiving phone calls that was the major issue, if I remember correctly. It sounds like in ios8 there are major changes to sound architecture that have affected people. I'm staying in 7 still because my iPad and phone do everything I need. If that means no new apps, I'm ok with that.

That's what I'm saying if it ain't broke............. It can be frustrating though to see new apps or VSTs or AUs fly by. However, it's all about work flow. I know I'm a guinea pig when it comes to embracing iOSes as my main DAWs is Logic. Let the music flow. Nice one.

  • At this point I have so many tools to make music that any new app (besides auria pro, which is really an update) will do nothing but distract me. So, unless auria pro requires iOS 8, no need to update.

  • If it has sysex, sound import I may be tempted, recently picked up VirtualCZ on the desktop and that will takes some beating IMO.

Looks interesting, drums and more channels, maybe they will even include a sequencer because otherwise i fail to see the point of including a demo-song that plays in real-time as a pre-recorded file would only add a few MB to the download.

I'm waiting for reports on older device before i even consider getting this...
(I would get really annoyed if it stutters using only one part so I'll spare myself for now).

  • The CZ app seems to crash on iPad Mini 2. Sometimes when I select DCW the app crashes. Also the vibrato doesn't seem to function.

I don't understand what you mean. If you mean would I of bought this if I knew there was no record track function then Yes I still would of bought it as I have always wanted a CZ synth on iPad.

  • I think Doug shows in his video review that the 4 tracks are for layer in different patches on top of each other. Making this synth a 4 part multi. Really cool patches can be achieved this way.

  • I like this synth. It's a welcome addition to iOS and sounds different than other synths ... but it needs Background Audio. I've figured out some workarounds for now ...

  • Brilliant Supadom. So good...

  • So this is on sale for twelve bucks this month. Picked it up... and it crashes within a couple minutes when I change parameters. Just like everything else I ever bought from Casio in the 80s!

Wasn't on it to start with, right off it now :)

The app has very high requirements (Air or higher, mini 3 or higher).

Side note, I still own my first synth, the Casio CZ-5000, which even included an 8 track sequencer. Not bad for 1985! This app emulates the phase distortion synthesis found in that instrument (and the other CZ models mentioned earlier). Nice to see a few people familiar with these models. I love mine.

  • I had 2 101's. One for basses and one for pads/leads. Once I grasped the way it worked I found programming easy. iOS version runs fine on my iPad Air 1.

  • No problems with this app here.

Weird. I'm on an Air1, and I've restarted it and still no luck.

  • Check iPad General settings...

  • I had a CZ-5000 too - it was heavy and pretty cool. Not sure if I'm that keen to re-visit PD synthesis now though.
