  • Yes it has a ton of drum samples and it just works well for that for me. I like it a lot considering I almost did not purchase . I have a lot of apps I paid more for that I will use less. The instrument samples and the ability to use them with my midi keyboards is pretty nice as well.

  • I just looked at the promo video again (why not start the day off with it?) and wonder- is he using beats headphones that are not plugged in or are they bluetooth? Looks like they had an unplugged cable.

And if they are bluetooth, this works With bluetooth with no latency?

I know, back to the nerd house for me...

    :)

  • Just a wee bit of trim on top for me please.

@kobamoto Not surprised to see you defending your girl's honour, but the question was about criticism when first released.

Regarding copies of user samples, yes, anything that is imported (or exported) goes in the BeatHawk File Sharing folder.

the answer was about criticism that I made when it was first released, that got the sample delete and file naming issues fixed…. of course that was back when retronyms actually talked to me. anyways unlike some, I'll use them all.

Don't feel bad, Retronyms doesn't talk to anyone, except when they are pitching a new product. That is the problem. They pop in the forums ask for constructive criticism, make claims that they will work on the problems, then months pass by without any word from them nor any updates. The MPC files export feature still has not been restored. They said that they would have that fixed back in July 2014. That is why it is so refreshing to have a solid developer with a strong track record release an app. of this type. As I said earlier, this is a very strong 1.0 release which will only get better.

  • I did request for refund. Better paying more later (when not on sale) than waiting for new features. I do recommend the app but it had crucial missing points (for me)...

actually they told me they would fix it on the day the original impc was released, and then again a couple of weeks after that, and then again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and then again on the day the impc pro was released, and then again, and again, and again, and again, and then they said they need to keep it for fx tails, and then silence.
it was literally the first bug report they got.

  • I really love this app, and I think the reason is the fantastic quality of the UVI sample library...listen my first work in progress with it:

  • quite dark and dystopian.....

i think you may be onto something with the sound quality of the library.....i was getting pissed in the kitchen last night and all of a sudden this track appeared out of no where....

  • I haven't bought this yet, but what's grabbing me is the apparent ease of song construction. A lot of these 'all in one' composer type apps make song building a bit of a chore - the fact that you lot seem to be knocking out good tracks like there's no tomorrow is very promising.

Anyone using this on an iPad 2?

  • anyone else experiencing hanging notes in beathawk when played through midi keyboard? i had to quit the app a few times because of that. or is there a panic button? i didn't see one ... but some features in beathawk seem to be hidden so maybe someone has found the panic function?

  • Beathawk's awesome, really.
I see it as a drum machine rather than a whole music production workstation. As an instrument, it's really an awesome complement for other gears. It convinced me not to add another drum machine to my rig (like tr-8 or analog rytm). It has a great workflow to make beats really fast and it sounds great.

  • @DaveMagoo You need to get pissed in the kitchen more often. And while you're at it get Prince (circa 1982) round to sing something against this.

I'm using it on what seems to be a particularly sluggish lemon of an iPad 3 and it sings. There's a tiny lag when previewing loops in the browser (as they time stretch) but otherwise I haven't noticed any sort of glitching or lag. To contrast, Egoist has a one to two second lag with each screen press.

Ok guys... that's cool. So I guess, it's really a question of feelings and workflow... Anyway, My advice may not be really accurate considering that I alrready tested and deleted noth impc and bh from my ipad because I'm too much in love with Gadget ;-).
    Peace

I was actually very pumped about BeatHawk, and was initially let down with it, in all honesty. I can relate to this comment even more because right after I got BH, the sale popped on on Gadget and I figured 843 million posts on the Audiobus forum can't ALL be wrong, so I pulled the trigger. And even though I'm sure there is an argument to be made for these two apps both occupying space on one's iPad, I just can't imagine ever downloading it again. But for 5 bucks, hey, I'll jump in there and see if maybe they release that *killer update one day.

Part of my reasoning to get it. $5 is $5 towards UVI having a successful first launch on iOS and I imagine I'll see a ton on return on that if it is indeed a successful launch. What if Turnado or iMS-20 hadn't been successful?

  • Hell the sample content alone is worth more than a measly five dollars. I hope this great app just improves thanks to our small investment and their hard work. Keep up the good work UVI . Way to go guys.

That is a very good point. Maybe I will get it for that reason alone. I'll sleep on it. Not because of the money, but because I'm not sure I have space for it at the moment.

    This is absolutely true.

Or just buy it, play with it, then stick it on the Apple shelf and save it for another day. That's what I did. Honestly not disappointed in the purchase at all. I've had five dollars worth of enjoyment out of it already. Can't say that about the overpriced coffee I had this morning. And if I swing back by that "coffee shop that shall not be named" in six months or a year and ask them if I can have another go at it, I'm pretty sure they're going to want money from me again...... And I'll give it to them. And it'll probably be tomorrow.

Thanks, sounds like it'll be ok then as my ipad''s fine with Egoist.

Funny how the new pricing has slowed my impulse buying though, means this is the cost of a cooked breakfast, rather than a coffee in the UK now. Still cheap, but my 'take a chance on a thing' purchases are no longer quite so carefree and instant as they were.

But what is a Drum Machine worth without the ability to sync it to ANYTHING?How can it be an"awesome complement for other gears"then?Sorry, just wondering...

  • there;s always the old fashioned 'sync' - hitting the play button in BH at the same time as whatever app your recording into. (I haven't done this yet with BH - but have with Figure many times and it works...)

And a TIP I don't think I've seen mentioned anywhere before (forgive me if i'm wrong) .. but you can ERASE just a part/section of a loop by holding down the Erase button while in record mode and briefly tapping the pad loop you want to erase. I actually got an interesting effect by doing this last night on a continuous bass note that I had going for 2 bars. I held down erase and then rhythmically tapped the bass pad a few times to get like a gate effect almost... It's pretty rudimentary for editing, but it's there.

  • Wait, really @halftone? I tried that a few times and I didn't think it worked. That's great news. I'll give it another shot.

  • I find it works pretty well usually depending on how good my timing is. Once I got the hang of it I found it to be very useful.

  • make sure you're in Record mode.

  • What do you get with the included sample packs - is there enough variety in there or would I be reaching for my credit card and have to add new packs after a couple of hours of fiddling about?

Gotta give that a try. Thanks @Halftone!

  • @monzo I replied to you about this in a previous comment. As far as variety, it depends on what kind of music you're looking to make. Is it numbers you're wanting?
