Synth Book by Yamaha featuring a fully working AN1x synth (wut?)

edited January 2015 in General App Discussion

This is a weird one. It's an iPhone book/catalogue app featuring a fully featured synthesizer, called AN2015.

  • Wow, this is great. Appshopper doesn't show anything, but it looks worldwide and multilingual (downloading from itunes).

And I claiming against Yamaha in another thread... :)

    Thanks for the heads up.

  • Not working over here currently. Will try again later. What a funny run of products, almost out of sync with the time, but some useful/unique aspects to fiddle with.

This is very interesting. Chapters on the history of synthesis, and a full chronological rundown of Yamaha synths. Then there is the AN2015 synth. As yet, no IAA or AB support, but it sounds very nice. 3 oscillators, noise, and 7 filter types. Arpeggiator with 64 types (patterns). AppStore wouldn't let me download to my iPad until I had downloaded to my iPhone. But it's now on both. Come on Yamaha, support for Audiobus next please.

  • I'm really liking this one. I seriously hope they release it as a stand alone synth, without the books and all the drumloops. Good stuff!

  • The morphing function on the synth reminds me a bit of Alchemy..., and it's free... :D
Seems to be made for iphone.

  • This is cool - I recently traded in my CS1X so this will be a great soft replacement!

  • Thanks, now for AB.

  • That's too damn weird. This could be the best analog synth for iPhone, hidden in a free app. Great sound quality.

  • It does sound good!

The presentation is a bit weird, it would have been understandable if the synth would have been used in conjunction with the book, illustrating concepts and such.

Or could it be a teaser for an as yet to be released, more fully featured (IAA/AB capable) app?

  • Doesn't seem to be available in Texas at this point....

  • Not at the other end of the US either. I am on the NY Canadien border near the Massena/Cornwall crossing,( so close that I can see Canada's underwear if I look just north.) I can report it is not available here either.

  • Tried through my iPad and nothing. Went to the top and changed "Only iPad" to "Only iPhone" and voilà!

  • Good to see another synth that I have in hardware form get released on iOS. First the CZ and now the AN1x. This is a good app and unlike the Casio app it is actually free.

  • No NYC yet...

  • Thank you, wouldn't expect to find a hidden synth, even though the app is called synthbook, was a festival app years ago that had a copy of filtatron hidden on the back page, wonder if there are many more like this out there, in the vastness of the appstore.

  • For the US people, you can just create a UK account to download it...I did

  • @TGiG Brilliant. Of course, I am actually from there and hold a passport, can find my way out of Hampton Court Maze etc., doesn't seem to cut any mustard with these Apple fiends...

  • It'll show up on the US store as soon as yamahas U.S. division wakes up, I'm guessing.

  • In US App Store now... Thanks!

Ok thanks for the heads up
    Yendor I'm getting it now.

  • Don't know why but i get a feeling that there are plenty more stuff to come from Yamaha this year.

The Synth in the app is pretty limited but i do like the noises it makes :)

  • That cord mode with the circle effects thing is absolute killer the drums sound really nice actually, gonna be getting flux I think which should make anything sparkle.

  • nice synth engine, but some modulation parameters are hidden it seems. Also, with only one VCO, its detune knob does detune the sound. I ask myself, detune against what?

Not really made for specific sound design when you don't have access to all parameters, but it's free and sounds good. Nice gift from Yamaha.

  • It is not a universal app, it is an iPhone app that is iPad compatible, you can get a 2x version of the iPhone app. If you, like me filter on only iPad apps you will not see it. Search the iPhone apps for it. It takes up 148MB, a bit much for a synth.

148mb..That'll be the 80 included drum loops

Thanks Mister Dawg, I was feeling left out there for a moment (whereas now I just feel dumb; a far more comfortable and familiar feeling.... :)

  • Does anyone have a link for the U.S. store? I'm not seeing it.

  • Is anyone else getting this - I downloaded the app onto my iPhone and the synth is missing! I get two links to the History pages and none to the synth, feeling pretty frustrated at the moment! And i have ios 7.0 on my iPad and it needs 7.1 minimum...
