The link isn't working, even though I just copied it from the App Store.
Should have 5 boxes on the first page and it's the one that says AN2015
@funjunkie27 it's the iphoneness of it that is throwing folks off I think....have to say it is immediate fun. The forbidden (free) fruit I guess, but some nice wrinkles...
Yes I have 5 boxes, but 2 of them say 40 years of Yamaha Synth History and none say AN2015... That's why it's frustrating!
Maybe so....its downloading for me now, but it took several attempts. I even searched on Yamaha and looked at all their apps. Not sure the exact combo that I did to get it to work though. I knew it was iPhone, but I was still struggling.
Just found a Q&A that says iPhone 4 is not supported, nor is iPad2. You can load the app but the synth does not appear. And guess what models I have...bummer!
For all US store users, the link is: https://appsto.re/us/q0O04.i
For some reason the iPad safari browser strips the dot out of appsto.re in copy/paste
This little free synth is just sweet and makes me want to see Yamaha do more with this stuff.

Mine does not have the AN2015 box. Neither does the pic in the AppStore description. Strange. I deleted and am downloading again, see if that helps.
Nope, re-download didn't help.
Maybe I need to press Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A for it to work?
Mine shows three boxes: On top, a box that changes between AN2015 and Yamaha Synth 40 Anniversary. Bottom left: Yamaha Synth 40 years history. Bottom right: AN2015.
I'll try a new download.
No changes after new download...Resuming: Three boxes, but actually two things to choose: Book and synth.
LineUp and Yamaha Apps appears pressing the "three lines" button on top left.
It's working swell here. Looking forward to Yamaha getting more involved in iOS. The synth is gorgeous!
Make sure to reboot after download. Mine was weird until I did that.
The synth is working fine here on iPad2, ios 8.1.2
X-Files here...After rebooting, iPad freezes with "Yamaha" on screen...Second rebooting and the icon has gone from my "Synth" folder to the last screen. Finally, the app works fine, but same three-boxes main screen.
Maybe a lesson to our more promotional minded friends: THIS is how to do marketing, make it free, make it a bit random to download, make it 1998 to look at in some respects, but make some of the sounds very obviously decent. Amazing the power of low expectations...
Yes, I'm taking the piss (but only somewhat
This just makes some really great sounds.
Its a good synth Remember playing on an1x in music store and not having quite enough money. Hopefully they will release it as a standalone with some added features and connectivity
I guess it shouldn't be a surprise, but it does sound Impressive.
Whether it's impressive enough to endure portrait mode remains to be seen.
yes I'm complaining about running a free synth on the wrong format
An1x has got to have been my no1 synth! Had some amazing sounds, regret selling now in hindsight:-(
If they make a standalone app, I would definitely buy it.
Nice as it sounds, without AB or IAA it is going to be a bit of a novelty in the IOS world. That's what I keep telling myself as it appears that I need new hardware to run it...
Seems to run fine on iPad mini gen 1 with iOS 8. Whatever the latest is.
This is where the second iPad becomes highly useful when wanting to record an app without AB orIAA.
What cable would I need to record audio from one iPad to another iOS device via the audio jacks (audio jack supplying audio out to the other iOS device jack to recording audio in)? Would I need a TRRS to TRRS cable or something else?
edit never mind, looks like that would only record mono audio. I think I found another solution.
You could use the Behringer UCA 222, for that you would need a mini jack that's splits to 2 phono plugs and a CCK. Then you could have full stereo and they are the cheapest stereo audio interface you can get, or an iTrack Dock or similar
@thesoundtestroom Thanks. I have an ART USB Dual Tube Pre, which is a d/i that can do 2 channels at once for the stereo signal. I just ordered a cable to connect the iPad to it.
Does anyone get the feeling that Yamaha is starting a campaign to get customers back? It looks like this app is stirring some interest in Yamaha to some degree. Anyone tried the other parts of the app, like the Yamaha synth history part?
Yeah. That's one reason I still have my iPad 1st gen as well as the Air 1.
