I don't think I'd go that far, rdm still sounds like a drum machine, but a very good drum machine. That being said, I have superior drummer and ez drummer, both of which sound fantastic, however any real drummer (who is good) is still miles better for me. Luckily I have quite a few of them that I get to work with regularly.
This isn't a criticism of rock drum machine at all, it's an amazing tool and keeps getting better, but there's nothing like the real thing. For writing and demos though, it's a great tool and I look forward to seeing where it goes.
Drums in RDM sound as good as EZ drummer. I just love the ability to play these on my iPad.
Yes I disagree and that was my point mrrufino. This is not a criticism of drum perfect I just find this to be much better and in no way find it sounds like a drum machine at all. That is why so many people are loving this app.
It would be nice to have individual instrument outputs. That would be so cool.
I find the mixer to be very useful for controlling individual outputs. I know Luis, the maker of RDM visits here and looks for suggestions to make improvements so who knows you could very well get your wish in the future if enough folks request it.
Didn't think about that. Cause I wanted to apply effects or compression to say, the toms or bass drum in separate channels in Auria as supposed to the entire stereo out.
Maybe I can do this by muting parts. Would take longer but I guess its doable. Will check I out.
This is a very useful tool for me. Just hope that there will be an update with some rim shots and x sticks. Would be amazing. Still the best drum app imho. Especially with the new song mode!
If you want more than 5 drum voices on a regular basis and enjoy scoring a 16 piece set where you can add your own samples and export stems to your DAW for mixing, go with DrumPerfect. It's very cool.
If you prefer a single stereo drum track and 5 voices with the ability to build a full drum part in 15 minutes, go with RDM. I can see good use cases for both.
Does RDM, have round robin samples?
Hard to say if round robin or not but it somehow manages to have the same effect of not sounding "machine gunny" . I am not sure of that is how Luis made it sound so realistic or not though. He comes on here from time to time though and would be able to tell you how he gets it to sound so realistic though.
God bless Luis! This thing rocks ma man!
Just watched Doug's video. Learned a lot!
I hope Luis does the preview and % request in song mode
....that would be cool.
Of all the Acoustic drum apps we have today, the sound of RDM really thrills me, the only things that stop me buying RDM, is variance, in the groove, and samples (round robin) variance. If these were to be implemented, RDM would indeed recreate the Drummer that everybody hates to love.
.I prefer RDM as it is, the drum app most everyone just loves. However Luis made it thrill you is what made us buy it . lol.
I was just exploring RDM a bit and the variations that you can throw into your live mixing of this is like nothing I have ever heard. The original version was a bit noisy when switching patterns but the updates took care of that very nicely. Now I can set a pattern and switch velocities on the fly with no problem giving it an even greater human feel. We also have the option of switching drums and cymbals during playback which gives us the ability to use very large drum kits with all kinds of different sounding toms, cymbals ect. And once again we can set the velocities to various levels making this sound so real it is just amazing! Luis what will you come up with next I can hardly imagine. I do have a question though. Between the rhythm and sounds columns sometimes two little bars appear and if I change the sounds a set of rings appear but by tapping I can change from bars to rings, what is going on there?
@Tritonman, the more I'm hearing, the more I'm liking.
Guys is there a way to lock your song so it wont change after you play it again?
I'm not sure what you mean by not change? If I create a song it auto opens the same way each time.
When I play back the song, the drums sound different. There's different fills etc. My settings don't change, just what's playing back.
Try turning the jam feature all the way down.
There is variance in the groove, this is set by the Jam parameter, and a very natural sounding job it does too. I don't think that it uses round robin samples, but each sound (eg. Snare) has three variations, typically soft, loud and flam, which helps add to the human feel.
Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you like the new features.
For the moment, RDM doesn't use round robin samples.
Every Rhythm is associated with a SoundSet. Changing a rhythm automatically sets the corresponding soundset. The horizontal line means the Rhythm - Sounds are linked. The two rings appear when the linked soundset is not the current one. Press it to link the current Rhythm-Sounds pair.
If you don't want the soundset to change while playing, keep the padlock on the right closed.
Another point. In song mode, if you want to copy a part, select it and press the add line + . The rhythms, jamming, bars, etc... parameters for the new line will be exactly as the recently selected part. This is a way to copy/paste.
Cheers!
Thanks Luis, and congratulations on the great update. It seems you have a ton of folks interested in what you are doing over there. I find the lock option very useful.
Hi Luis any plans to add round robin? and or the ability to import samples to make kits?
Hi @LuisMartinez. Is there any way to change the duration of the fills? And the intensity. They come on a bit harsh at times. Maybe in an update in the future. It's such a great app, really useful. But as the spoiled kids we are, we always want a little more. Maybe even some rim shot sounds etc. and cowbell. Always needs cowbells
At this point I can't promise nothing, but would be an interesting feature.
If you need some concrete fill, you can save your own as a rhythm (remember full for programming toms) and add 1 bar in song mode. Yes, maybe some fill sound a bit hard... but it's Rock! Thanks for the feedback, let see what can I do for the next update.
Every new update iTunes delete old comments, it would be amazing if you had a minute to write a little review on the appstore.
Cheers!
I need to go an edit my review. I wrote mine right before the update. Will check. Thanks Luis, keep up the awesome work.
Also, is there a way to lock in a performance in song mode so that when I replay the song, it's exactly as when it first played? Thanks in advance.
I did not know Each update removed my comments, thanks I will head on over to give another great review today!
Someone over there was mad and wondering how Luis removed his previous comments. I had to chuckle at that one after reading this one and he was not very happy about his air2 and blamed him for that also.
I was just comparing this to the Beatbuddy. Sounds are comparable, and what it lacks in foot control it makes up with Song and Jam control. It's nice having foot control of these things, and that's why the Beatbuddy is useful. It's easy. I use them both, for variety.
I do agree the drums sound boxy .. what kinda eq effects do you use? well I have turnado and livefx to work with.....
