new 808 kit are very good....well done UVI :-)

Asking this didn't work out on the FB group... lol
so... what do you think of the Beathawk packs? Which do you recommend?

  • @senhorlampada I like the packs but consider them (within the overall iOS pricing context) a bit expensive. Are they really? Maybe not, but it's how I've found myself feeling about them. Perhaps because Novation packs are 1.99 each. Logical? Not really, but still....

Thanks, JG! Never realized there were packs for novation! lol
    Gonna check on those too

Yeah... I find some of the BH packs a tad "expensive", so they're less instabuy and more "let me check this first" :D

  • When can we create folders to organize our files by categories?

  • Where, please?

  • speaking of beathwak . . .

Cubasis seems to have problems seeing beathawk ? I can connect through iaa, but I can't send midi otherwise which would be nice to have several bh instruments in one project

  • information source buying 2000 dolls.thanks

I swear I am going to start a new genre (lyrically) based on the cut-up method, but focused instead on classic @songmoodist lines. Brilliant stuff. Men will look back on these days with wonder....

  • @BastienCo said: Hi, Thanks for the report, I'll get those apps and try with Beathawk, there might be something we missed out regarding MIDI

Some of our favorite midi apps like Auxy, Midi Flow or Cubasis still can not see BeatHawk -- a real pity because that is preventing many sensible work flows.

Especially now that Auxy can midi sync -- it can not sync with BeatHawk if BH hides itself from other apps . . .

so . . . any news on this?

  • @Nick, I have no problem seeing BeatHawk from Cubasis; as both IAA and AudioBus.

I can play notes within BeatHawk from a MIDI track in Cubasis by choosing Virtual MIDI with no instrument loaded. To record the BeatHawk track, it must be an audio track in Cubasis as an IAA instrument

The only way I can sync tempos, however, is to use IAA. The purpose of MIDI clock sync is to trigger BeatHawk playback of a previously created pattern or song in perfect tempo sync with Cubasis. That is different from playing back notes from BeatHawk as just an instrument or drum sounds.

I am running an iPad Air 2, iOS 8.3.

Hi, yes, that is true. I was referring to the discussion a while back that while Cubasis can do Audiobus and IAA with BeatHawk, it can 't select it as a midi out. It does not appear on the list of midi destinations.

And that means you are limited to one sound source from BeatHawk, as opposed to up to 16 tracks from BeatHawk. (or you need to go through virtual midi which creates other problems)

At the time @BastienCo said they wanted to look into this, because some other midi apps like Midi Flow and auxy, both have very reliable Midi implementation, can't see BeatHawk either.

Because of this, it is also not possible to midi sync to Auxy, something that would be really fun to do.

In fact, this missing bit of functionality has stopped me from doing more from BeatHawk even though I otherwise really like the app. So I keep my fingers crossed that UVI can fix this issue . . .

  • @Nick

    Hi,

Beathawk does not implement MIDI out, it can only receive MIDI signals. That's why you cannot see it in Auxy.

However, you can send MIDI from Auxy to differents pads of beathawk, I just tried and it works. I suggest you to go to Preferences and uncheck: MIDI - Send Omni and MIDI - Send to Selected Pad.

Regarding midi sync we implemented IAA as we thought it would be the most relevant thing to do.

We are thinking of adding midi out in Beathawk, because as you said, it reduces the possibilities of things you can do..

  • @BastienCo said:

Ah, okay! Thanks for explaining this, it was really mysterious why Apps couldn't "see" BeatHawk even though they could connect through IAA and AB.

Yes, Auxy and BeatHawk works beautifully for jamming, but as soon as someone tried recording Auxy in BeatHawk, the sync issue came up. It was impossible to get it synced even by slowing down the tempo to the minimum.

Now, meanwhile both Auxy and BeatHawk have midi sync implemented, yet still can't play together (or rather not record)

Nice to know that you are considering midi out, it would indeed open up the possibilities!

  • @Nick

That"s right, without midi sync you "cannot" use both Auxy sequencer and Beathawk sequencer, you would have to fully use Auxy sequencer in order to be really sync and still have beathawk sounds, but this remove the number of instruments you can have.. I understand your problem here.
I take note of this and I'll have a closer look when I have a moment

  • @BastienCo

Great! I hope the missing functionality is either easy to implement or that in playing with the two you find it is too much fun mixing Auxy and BeatHawk so that it has to be done :)

  • Heard a rumour IAP are reduced upto 50% off.

  • Yes. I just picked up a few more.

I'm one who posted on the FB group. Although the IT guys messed up with my WIFI here and couldn't check the packs out :D

I'll probably get some. Wondering which ones are worth it.
My guesses are Brass, Disco, Funk, Trip Hop, Latin and World

  • Hafta say I like them all....

  • I'm trying to get the Electric Piano pack but it's not letting me buy it. It just doesn't want my dirty money.

I tried buying a pack and it resisted at first but clicking the buy button a few times it cooperated

I was reading your response again and was wondering if it was clear enough what people (me!) want to do. Simply this: record auxy patterns into BeatHawk. This is what we need sync for. It would kind of "add" a piano roll to BeatHawk which would open up many nice possibilities.
This would still be my #1 feature request (and also #2). #3 would be the option to unload purchased pack. BeatHawk can get big in file size and loads slower with many packs, so it would be nice to delete some packs temporarily from the device.

Yes it finally worked after I took a nap. Nice Electric Piano.

  • yes it is very nice, though the dyno included with the main app is almost as good

  • @nick Really glad to have read this as I'm on a BeatHawk IAP tear tonight - can I ask: HOW similar is Dyno to the $ Electric Piano ? Does the Electric Piano offer more variation / earn its keep? (I'm guessing the answer is Yes if one is searching for a prime Rhodes situation)

PS- in case anyone's contemplating the Electro Pop IAP: the sounds are mint but I was quite disappointed that All of the instruments are locked into loops / not separately playable (The drums are individual hits as well as the loops).

  • yes , Electric Piano IAP offers many more variations, including "clean" and "dirty" ones, and if you're after the typical Rhodes sound within BeatHawk, it is worth getting. Good instrument in my opinion.

speaking of good and not so good instruments, I wouldn't recommend the Grand. It does sound very good but some of the black keys are not as loud as the others and as the white ones and this makes it unplayable for me. so this one is a bit of a disappointment

  • How is beathawk if you wanna use your own samples/soundbanks? I know it doesnt support the time sliced loops ,but is it easy to import and open ?

  • I can use the hundreds of Apple Loops (.caf) that I have stored in my iCloud Drive. BeatHawk has a direct import function. They sync up nicely to tempo changes.

  • @bsantoro said:

Thats great to hear. Didnt knew it supported caf files.
