More then half way to op1..
Good thread.
Personally I would take the 'spend it on something that will stand the test of time' theme but from a different angle.
I would put it aside as a chunk of money to spend on an album. Not on music making equipment to make the album (I think I've enough apps to already do that) but as a chunk of money to pay for pro mastering, publishing to iTunes / Spotify etc, maybe printing some CDs (or even vinyl), cover artwork, maybe some promotion etc.
Then I'd use it as a nice incentive to get a great piece of work finished that I was happy enough with to spend the money on, and have as a nice keep sake if nothing else.
Some great ideas and some good laughs. I haven't decided on anything yet, but I'm leaning toward a 12 string acoustic or upgrading my Focusrite 2i2. Thanks everyone.
Let us know, at least half of the pleasure of this fine forum is living vicariously through the triumphs (and SNAFUs) of others
If you have a spare acoustic that isn't getting enough use, you could try out Nashville Tuning. Then double track your guitars. It's not the same as having a 12-string, but it's a similar flavor for the cost of some strings.
This is known, in shutterwax land as "the octavator." I love it layered in with other guitars.
A graphics card for my DAW, so I can play Bejeweled at a higher resolution.
Very familiar with Nasville tuning, but I use my lone acoustic too often. I just ordered this "handcrafted in China" Guild 12 string. I've played a couple of these at Guitar Center and my local store, but they were going for going for about $650. I found one of these for $570 on Amazon. I'm not enough of a guitar snob to pass this one up.

Nice @supanorton hope it matches your furniture
Nice, and not an oscillator in site. Enjoy!!
If I had $500 to spend on my music making, I'd buy me an Sp404sx and go crate digging with the rest
500 is a nice pair of small Genelec speakers... My next step

@supadom - I wouldn't mind having a chair like that! By the way, I'll explain my "SUPA" if you explain yours.
...$500 puts you right there with how much the rest of us have already spent on apps the last year or so...
^Cheap bastard.
That's the name of my band!
When I pull up my purchased apps list in the App Store, I see proof that Dr. Jekyll wasn't the only one with a Mr. Hyde. Can't remember buying so many that I've deleted. I'm not even a synth guy!
Nothing deep @supanorton just ego tripping.
Opportunity missed for some fabulous bullshit. Sigh.
Hooker and beer and a nice $5.00 music app with the money that's left over.
With hookers and beer there is never any money left over....
enjoy whatever you decide...bless
