  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Alchemy 2.0 woven into Logic Pro is quite an intriguing thought. My guess is Logic Pro 11 is not far off.

  • So will I ever be able to get my IAPs back? :(

  • It will be interesting to see how Apple comes through this without pissing off every owner of Alchemy? Who knows maybe they saved the starving orphans at CA.

  • Apple won't care...

  • It would be a great way to refresh GarageBand; both on the Mac and iOS.

  • And what about Windows Alchemy users? :-/

  • intriguing

  • I can say you my story:

I buy Logic when is by Emagic, a German Software house, for 1000 coins (at time the full version was named Logic Platinum)...
So....after 3 years Apple bought Emagic and my 1000 coins plus other more then 600 for various updates are going fucked....no more updates & nothing :-(

I hope I'm helpful....but I think that all our money spend on Alchemy are fucked :-(

  • What does this mean for alchemy on iOS? ..can I finally buy it?

  • Noboy knows about the future except:it will be part of apple and no,you can't buy anything. It's pulled from the store.

  • What if it gets Included free in GarageBand for iOS 3.0?? That would be nice :-)

We will no doubt see some good from the buyout but I think it is safe to say that Alchemy is now a vintage software.

  • Is Samplr next?

I think it's going the way of Logic but what does this mean for people who've bought the plugin and all the libraries? That's a fair investment. I read you can still install everything as long as you keep/kept all the installers as it's not c/r.

All i can say is Spectrasonics had better stay away from iOS!

Hmmm. Not a bad shout that.

  • Cue the Apple is doomed experts. As for Logic being funked when Apple bought it? What a load of cobblers! Logic became even better under Apple. I left Cubase after 10 years of trying to be an engineer guitarist but the workflow in Logic made up for all that heartache :)

Apple buying Camel is fantastic news. Camel have to finalise how to close out properly as there is now a new owner of their busines. This is not for Apple to sort out. Camel will be laughing all the way to the bank with Apple dosh so they should sort this out properly. However, Camel did say they will come out with an explanation so I'm positive we will get our IAPs back.

Start enjoying mate. This is great news! Camel has not been bought by a pauper ;)

If I had absorbed the essential truth of this push-you-pull-me a dozen years ago I could have saved myself something or other that could have probably been wasted on something else instead... :)

You wasted it on iOS. Good move :)

The Samplr guy already works for Apple. But I think in the UI section, not audio.

  • Logic X is superb, and at an amazingly low price compared to the competition. I'm not keen on Apple hoovering up all the good apps at the expense of current users though, and I can imagine a lot of customers will be put off investing in new ones if there's the potential for an Alchemy type situation.

    Wut?

It's good news of a sort, at least in some form it will survive, but I think people hoping for Apple Alchemy to roll as if it's only a name change, noooooooo, can't see, that's not Apple MO, Alchemy 2, yes new product, integrated into Logic-Garageband, with IAP's, but here's the big question, Alchemy was built with all those beautiful presets created by indie-sound designers, what of them? The reputation of Alchemy was only in part the software, the rest, in my opinion, the most important part, was the soundware.

  • If apple bought it and decides to make it Mac only that's certainly understandable as they make macs and do not make windows machines (well, not with windows installed that is). If things remain the same and licenses would transfer then it would work if you got a Mac. I'm not saying that you should (or could) run out and just buy a Mac, but if logic Is being used as a model then they didn't kill it, they just made it specific to one platform. I don't use logic so I can't speak to whether they made it better or worse, but the feedback I've heard about Logic Pro X seems to be very positive.

With that being said, I do understand that if a ton of money was invested in alchemy and it no longer works that would be upsetting, and especially if it was an important piece of your workflow. I have a small amount in alchemy mobile but it wasn't a major (maybe not ever in anything that mattered) part of my workflow and I've been fine without it.

We will see what happens though. It definitely outlines the risk of software and the necessity to back things up (I didn't back up any of my IAP'S for alchemy so they're gone for now). At the same time, when gigastudio stopped there were definitely people who left a machine specifically as a gigastudio instrument that never got updated again and essentially became "hardware," so that may be an option for some, as long as they still have access to their content.

On the other hand, maybe apple will surprise people with this, who knows? Time will tell how it plays out for sure.

  • It's a no brainer that Alchemy goes into Logic/GarageBand. Yes Windows users might be sweating on this one. Will they abandon ship and move to Macs? Maybe not but there is that option.

@knewspeak - Apple will deal with third party sound designers etc no problem. The problem now is how will the IAPs debacle be sorted out. We have until July 7 to find out.

I buy apps not because I think some big shot is going to give a wad of cash to the developers. If it's any good, I'm in. The other side of the coin is, shouldn't developers be allowed to sell their apps to the Apples of this world? If not, why not. Developers have families to feed as well. Camel have triumphed and I bet some of the Camel employees and associated third parties will be gobbled up by Apple for future maintenance and development. I'm just being optimistic about this. Fingers crossed.

GarageBand for Logic Pro? Don't bet against it.

  • World's end. I'm using now Logic Pro X as my main DAW (and it's far from perfect too, especially on the retina macbooks) and i spend over 1000 bucks to the Camel Audio guys... ouch!
I feel not good if this is really true. Would be too long and boring to write all here to describe why i'm not happy with it.
I still think they are maybe interested in the tech (especially Alchemy 2) but i don't think that we see then ever an Alchemy synth like it was before. I just feel in general Apple "destroys" a lot things which worked better before.
However, for me it's a bad thing. Maybe i'm wrong.....

  • @FrankieJay, I agree of course developers should be allowed to sell, it's just how it's done, why does it feel like something from behind an iron curtain, NDA's, BIG BUSINESS? We kind of get the world we deserve, the world envisaged in 1948, Brother......tis indeed a glorious victory.

  • Well, since I'm on board with Logic Pro X and never bought any of the Alchemy expansions since it always felt off to me, I guess I'll just reap the bounty. I expect the potential for similar moves by Apple for any non-US based plugin maker, since they hold so much offshore cash. Redmatica was Italian, Camel was UK, I can't think of what others there have been.

So, if I might selfishly suggest Apple's next target, a little company called FabFilter would be quite a nice addition.
