Which song woke you up to synthesisers?
Quick game, one line answer each.
Which one song in your formative years woke you up to what a synth is – ie, the first time you remember wondering what on earth is making that interesting sound, and turned you onto the path we all tread today? Only one song per offering. Only one line.
Comments
Are Friends Electric? - Tubeway Army
Ooh, my turn. Son of my father / Chicory Tip.
Electronic Number 1 - Hawkwind
Lucky Man - ELP
From 1977 - The opening riff from 'The Bells of Berlin' from the album 'Firing on all Six' by the band Lone Star.
Da Da Da by Trio. 80's electronic drum machine synth pop, one of my favourite 7" records
Turn it On Again by Genesis. The synth bass layered with the bass guitar; the synth chords under the guitar chords; the synth stabs punching with the snare... huge lesson that I employ to this day.
On The Run - Pink Floyd
It was either Oxygen by JMJ or maybe Spiral by Vangelis
Same
Clear - Cybotron
Eboman - Donuts with Buddah
Same with me that Lucky Man was one of my first. Possibly Baba O'Riley as well.
Another Eboman convert here!

JMJ - Magnetic Fields Part 4 (Particularly the 'epic' C64/Sid cover in Yie Ar Kung Fu by Martin Galway).
Ah, nice getting round the one line rule with a screenshot (don't worry, seen this ploy before with my students at university). Okay allowed, as are quotes to comment on others elected songs, and why not let in youtube links also. Ejnoy.
Frankenstein
Actually, Styx embodied the perfect balance of synth and rock guitar for me.
I love the implicit apology of the Actually....
Things Can Only Get Better - Howard Jones
Highway Star. Need I to say the band?
There were several but Gary Numan's "Cars" was the one that really got me started with synths.
The Alan Parsons Project- Mammagamma
The Minotaur - Dick Hyman (1969) was my first intro to a moog. Followed quickly by anything from Walter Carlos, Isao Tomita and Keith Emerson.
same for me
The Wailers - "Stir It Up" Live The Old Grey Whistle Test 1973
Dominator (the Hoover patch blew me away at 13 years old)
The Topless Dancers of Corfu - Dick Hyman, 1969
Walter (now Wendy) Carlos playing Bach's Brandenburg Concerto!
Break dancing at 13 and was suddenly mesmerized by Kraftwerk's Tour de France.
